Not for the reasons we’ve argued as nauseum already (those too) but with Witten retiring too, just kinda bummed me out that all my favorite post Big Three players are gone.

Had braced my self for Witten retiring for a couple of years already, has Dak looking like a phenom when Romo was pushed out, but sitting here today it’s just kinda sad to me. More heartbreak than joy with these guys, but such an attachment. It was easy to be a fan when we were winning titles, and as much as I liked Emmitt and Troy and Irvin it was almost hero worship. Everyone loved them and there wasn’t much criticism to levy. With these three though, never getting over the hump there’s that feeling of going through the turmoil with them and really emotionally vested in them overcoming the odds. And now they’re gone :(

I wishbone Romo won a SB with us. He carried inferior talent for years. Times change. I think he should probably still be QB of the Cowboys, but I understand why they did what they did. Dak's best attribute was ball protection and sometimes Romo didn't do that.

That's one of the reasons why getting rid of Dez was the right call. Forcing the ball to Dez eliminated the one advantage Dak gave us (taking care of the ball).

I was a huge Dez fan and Witten fan in last years. Witten was a great player but he has been here several years too long. He has been a liability for at least three or four years.

Dez' contract was the first nail in his coffin so to speak. Then he followed up that contract with three bad years in a row. After the first bad year I could see giving him a mulligan. But he couldn't get separation at all after he got his contract.

I love his high floor, just disagree w/ the low ceiling assessment. His route running sets him apart. He's got #1 capabilities, just has to learn how to deal w/ the press. He's not a deep threat, he's a route runner who gets open.
Not saying that he's a finished product. His already excellent skills can improve, but probably not a lot more.

Guys like Courtland Sutton have high ceilings because that have the many of elite NFL traits but don't have the NFL skills. Gallop has some excellent (if not elite) skills and average traits. Gallop can be an effect WR or he can be a Pro Bowl player. He'll never be an All-Pro. Sutton could be a complete bust or could be an All-Pro. That is his low floor/high ceiling.

I do too man. I liked Dez. When things were rolling and in his favor he was fantastic. When there were challenges he failed to move forward. The staff grew tired of having to try and coral him and I think they coddled him too much. Great physical talent, but the mental aspect added unnecessary distractions.

I know people are saying if Tony was still here it would be different...Yeah, Probably. But this is young QB's team now and he doesn't need to be worrying about hurting his receivers feelings during a game, he needs to be worried about running the offense.

Dez's completion rate in 2016 was 52.1%, slightly higher than his 52% of a year ago. Meanwhile, it's 70% with all of the other receivers over that same span.

I'm using stats. You're the one scapegoating. "Dak can't pass", except that he can to everyone not named Dez.
Nice straw man you built there. Does it dance and do dishes as well? At no time did I mention Dak Prescott.

2016 season...through first 50 receptions:

Julio Jones...957 yds 5 TD
Dez Bryant...796 yds 9 TD
AJ Green...777 yds 3 TD
TY Hilton...769 yds 4 TD
Odell Beckham Jr...733 yds 6 TD
Brandin Cooks...731 yds 5 TD
Mike Evans...677 yds 7 TD
Jordy Nelson...663 yds 9 TD
Antonio Brown...617 yds 5 TD

The aforementioned data hardly proves that Bryant is washed up at 29 years of age.

Michael Gallup is going to make us forget all about Dez. I love his route running just below Ridley in this class and he has the ability to be an explosive player with the right coaching.

This offense is going back to the way it looked in 2016.

Every year with Garrett, it’s always a personality excuse. TO, Greg Hardy, Dez... one guy is solely responsible for the disaster of the season.

Storyline:

Team sucks.. Garrett looks like a loser. Some information plus leaked about a player allegedly missing a meeting or sleeping during them.

The story of a locker-room cancer is created. That it is released.

Rinse and repeat..
Exactly. It started before he even became HC. He sucked as an OC and sabotaged Wade to weasel his way into the HC job. The WRs talked about him handing out new play books after he got the gig. Garrett is a loser and a weasel POS.

To me that's what fans say when they can't accept reality. Romo retired from injuries. The same challenges Dak faced last season would be there for Romo.
Missing Smith, Lee, Elliott, Bailey...etc...This isn't about the QB. This is about Dez and being responsible for his own actions.
Now we can move forward.

I agree with this, But I still wish he could have made it work here. I think he's a good kid. But I think the team will be better.

He's a good kid? This is the kid that hit his mother. This is the kid that refused to pull up his pants so his shorts weren't visible and got permanently thrown out of a mall. This is the kid the Cowboys assigned a babysitter for. That doesn't sound like a good kid to me.

Not how I operate lol. Team first of course, but I get really attached to players. I’m sure Gallup will be a nice addition but I’ll still miss the gang.

I'm old so really don't care about these most recent changes. I just want to consistently win and compete in the playoffs again no matter who's at the helm. I was upset on the break up of the triplet's careers because I celebrated those SB's with them. We sucked for a long time after Danny White until Triplets were formed and I'm afraid we're going to go through that again. It really depends if we have a true gamer in Dak. If Dak brings this team into contention, everyone will forget about Wit, Dez, Romo in a heartbeat.

I share that feeling. I felt the same way when Romo left. I really like Dak and Romo had his injury issues, but can't help but feel Dez might still be here if Romo was able to play and stay healthy in 2017. I know those are big "ifs", but the evidence is there that Dez was a better player with a developed QB. It was clear that Dez was frustrated by Dak's development and compounded this by having an inconsistent season himself. Despite this, Dez is still a great player and will eventually get the chance to prove that (I just wish it was with us).

As far as Witten, I love the player and still think he has a lot in the tank, but can't blame him for taking the Monday Night gig. Like with Romo, these kind of jobs don't come along often, and also like with Romo, Witten is a knowledgeable, personable and articulate guy. He'll be great on Monday night.

Good post, pretty much my feelings exactly.

hey bay--- after watching more and more Gallup highlights earlier today....i want him over Ridley.....he is bigger..longer arms...catches everything in his zip code with his hands....had decent speed...and smoothly runs exact routes...i had to give a platinum guarantee about Gallup
