When you know your QB is struggling in a very tight game. You go with what works. Run the ball and let your D, which your D had been solid up until the last two minutes, hold 'em.

He also said that the offense can't hang the defense out to dry like they did. Didn't point any fingers at any players that I heard.

Definitely true, the D did their work yesterday and pretty magnificently. They managed to hold Denver all day long and only cracked for that one TD. The Offense HAS to carry some water and they only carried one bucket to the hole.

At the end of last year, I was pretty down on Garrett and I'm lower on Garrett today than I was at any point last year. He's just not experienced enough to handle this offense. He's just not. Reading Bob Sturm's article in the Daily Zone just enforces it. Something has to change.

everyone knows that you have to run to win football games

Garrett always gives up on the run too soon and gets pass happy. Then when he does get pass happy, Romo's throwing it to an undrafted scrub with the game on the line while our pro bowl TE is blocking. Great stuff Red.

Not if it leads to a possible Mike holmgren running the show with say a jon gruden calling plays?

Just think a real figurehead in charge with holmgren.

Jon Gruden a smart aggressive coach who will hold players responsible and pound the crap out of the ball.

and guess what, holmgren knows how to draft lineman and wr....our nemesis.

Keep joe d here and come up with something on defense.

Who knows maybe a year of misery could lead to something good down the road.

when does a WR call for more run plays?

When he's a smart receiver and knows what works and what doesn't.

When he understands game strategy and the tempo of the game.

When he can put his ego aside (hear that Jason Garrett) and call a game plan that wins instead of one that validates his own stats or the genius of the offensive coordinator.

It's so frustrating that everyone can see this but Jason, Wade and Jones.

This team should be 4-0, and we've been done in by stupid play-calling and an inability to stick to a game plan.

In the two losses, it was clear to almost everyone what should be done. The television commentators even said as much. "The Cowboys are handing it to the Giants. Flozell and Witten were absolutely destroying the Giants on the left side." So what does the Brilliant One do? He feeds his massive ego - and Romo's - and goes for the kill shot rather than slow body blows that will ultimately cripple the Giants. What happens? Interception. Giants score. ... Cowboys lose.

Then in the Denver game. Hostile crowd. Lack of oxygen. Cowboys up by 10. Denver can't get anything going. 3 and 14 deep in the Broncos territory. What do we do? Run the ball, which would have been the nice conservative thing to do? Punt the ball back to the Broncos, who can't move the ball?
No. This is Garrett ball. Let's pass. Turnover. Broncos go on to score. They're back in the game.

We play smart there. We play smart after we get the turnover deep in the Broncos territory (on the Austin muffed route and the Romo interception) and we're up at least 13-0, forcing the Broncos to pass and playing more into our defensive strategy. So what if Barber wasn't 100 percent healthy. Why do we have Tashard Choice? Isn't he capable of toting the rock 30 times? Didn't he prove he could move the chains?

I'm no NFL coach, but why can I see that and not this bunch?

It's frustrating, simply, frustrating.

This cast has got to go. No more excuses.

Wade mention that we struggled in the 2nd half, 10 rushes for 19 yards.

That's what I don't get about the complaints. When you run the ball and lose 2 or 3 yards on first-and-10, it's difficult to keep running it on second-and-12. There were a few times when you could say we should have run it on first-and-10 instead of passing it, but if you run it on EVERY first and 10, you become entirely too predictable.

So when the run isn't working, are we just supposed to keep running the ball on second-and-11, third-and-11, second-and-14, third-and-14, third-and-7, second-and-10, second-and-13, third-and-13, second-and-12 and third-and-17? Those are all situations we faced during the second half -- all within our first 25 plays before our final possession. Along with 10 first-and-10 plays, we were almost always in long-yardage situations throughout the second half.

I'm surprised we got away from the screen passes that were working so well early on.

I agree, although the ones we did try in the second half didn't work as well as the ones we ran in the first half.

One that realizes passing isn't working and is honest enough to accept that.

Add in that we have an offensive line thats built to break holes for our RB's and WANT to do that job and 3 (2 lastnight) RB's that are more than capable of doing their job it would seem a no brainer.

But again the play calling was crap, Romo was letting a few balls get away and sail on him and a few other things on offense.

It's a game we SHOULD have won, yes it would have been ugly but, a win is a win. But we keep outsmarting ourselves on play call's just stick to the basics when Garrett finally gets a grasp on those THEN move to more complicated plays.

And don't throw the damn ball to our lesser WR's when thier BEST CB is right next to the jesus and if for some reason your dumb enough to do it once don't go right back and do it again ***? 2 games in a row we can the same play twice in a row on the goal line and fail miserably on all of them

will it really matter if we change coaches? we just had a HOF coach 3 years ago, and we're in the same middling boat now as we were then

Glad I am not the only that though not even having Witten go out for a pass was crazy. I mean him and Romo kind of have a bit of a good relationship and they seem to trust one another.

But what do I know...

I didnt hear crayton today but I have to say.

After reading some stuff this morning and listening to bob Sturm I am leaning towards the side of the aisle that thinks garrett is probably as much to blame as anyone for the problems here.

Ultimately as bob put it, Jerry is in control and runs a circus, wade is responsible to jerry and then the catch, the rest of the coaches are responsible to jerry also, not to wade.

and there is the problem with what has gone on here.

I've said this on numerous posts, but I'll say it again - how many times has Roy run a slant route. Unless I'm going crazy, he's run....................................ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, on that play, Romo threw it over Roy's head and it got taken bakc to the house (Giants game). When is Garrett going to listen to Roys in his interviews when he REPEATEDLY STATES "I'm a different WR than TO. I'm a possession WR". Yet, every time I see the 'Boys on offense, I see Williams running DEEP routes (12+ yards before he even makes his first break). Williams is built in the mold of Irvin, Cris Carter, Keyshawn, etc.................. Stop using him like T.O. 60% of all passes to Williams should be between 0-10 yards. Then, once he has caught like 3-4 of those routes, THEN you try to hit him over the top. That is how they started out the Tampa game. Williams first 2 catches went for 20 yards. They were working him close to the LOS. Then, when Tampa started coming up to the LOS to challenge him, he busts a post route right down the seam for 66. That's how it's done folks. Plus, trying to hit him IN HIS COMFORT ZONE would probably help him and Romo get in a better rhythm, just like he does with Witten every game.

I was way down on him last year, but quite frankly other than the Fade Passes(tm) I thought he was doing a better job this year. Wracking up 200 yards rushing on the Giants isn't easy, and I thought his plays and calls had a lot to do with it.

But yesterday was atrocious. Worse than anything from last year.

I'm done with all of this staff except for DaCamillis and Houck. And please fire Wade Wilson like yesterday too.

This game was a game of field position, especially because it was so tight. You're the visiting team. You're playing at a higher altitude. You're in hostile surroundings. Your quarterback hasn't exactly been on target.

Some games you have to play for the close win. This was one of those games.

Exactly, there is nothing that says you cant pick up yards on second down running it, just cause they stuffed you on first down. If anything it might be easier if the defense knows your pattern is to pass it in those situations. Might be a great time to run the lead draw.

Wade said they had to keep him in to block against the blitz. I thought we had Bennett and Phillips for that. Witten is a Pro Bowler because of his pass catching. With the game on the line though, we're going to keep him in to block. Pure genius.
