RECAP: Greg Ellis with BaD Radio on The Ticket...

Greg Ellis needs an intervention from Stuart Smalley.

I am going to go out on a limb here and defend Ellis.

I don't know of one person that doesn't resist change. Some may come arround quicker than others; while some don't come arround at all and completely oppose making the change.

I personally can compare Gregs situation to the corporate world. I don't think many of us would want to be put into a position where you're opportunity to be laid off would be fairly high. The job market isn't great, although you could hook on with another company probably at a fraction of your former salary. What adds insult to injury is that you are a valuable employee, however the job that you have been shifted into didn't showcase your talents and will make it will expose weakness to your company as well as reduce your ability to generate the best income potential possible.

If it was all about the money, Ellis would've tested Free Agency years ago - but it is more complicated than that. Its about making a contribution, its about being compensated for your work, its about being valued.

I understand that the NFL roster limits and salary cap make it difficult to show loyalty to a player -- especially when you change your defensive schemes. I don't fault Greg for resisting change. I would find fault with him not giving the change his best effort though. I don't think that I have seen one observer say that he has been dogging it.

Lets stop ripping on Greg and hope that if he either:
a. earns a starting spot and excels at his new position
or
b. if he doesn't earn a spot, get traded for a draft pick or OLine/DT help.

An above average pass rusher will always have a job in the NFL. Even the mediocre ones still do based off their past history. Look at Marcellus Wiley. And as for the Kenard Lang example, he wasn't walking the streets like Freddie Mitchell, Denver snatched him right up. And I am sure if we cut Ellis next year, Denver would be there to collect our scraps just like they have for Ekuban and the rest of them.

Lets stop ripping on Greg .

If he agrees to stop going on the radio and talking about "commitments" and attempting to attract attention to himself like an insecure 10-year old, you have yourself a deal.

Yet you don't say anything about TO going on and on about McNabb in interview after interview like some little 10 year old who got into a fight with the kid next door.

No, I wish T.O. would shut up and play also.

But you don't come down on him as you have Ellis.

So?

Owens is more talented. And has the potential to make this team a champion. You treat your stars differently.

TO is a jackarse. No one has ever said otherwise.

Is your argument that now Ellis is one too?

Ellis was insecure about going from a 4-3 to a 3-4 end last year. And he did fairly well considering he doesn't have the prototype size for a 3-4 end.
I don't think he has the mobility to cover the elite TEs from a LB position but I think that can be schemed around with help from one of the safeties if teams try to exploit Ellis in the passing game.

No, no, no.

He is DOOMED, I say, DOOMED.

DOOMED to become the next Kenard Lang!

DOOMED!

Unless of course he got a "commitment". Then he might not be so doomed.

f? That is a tough question. I appreciate Bill and what he has tried to do here, but I am not a huge risk taker so I would rather do something that I am familiar with. This has been my toughest training camp ever.

If you're worried about the learning curve, it probably would have helped if you would have attended voluntary workouts with your teammates.

I didn't say that Greg wouldn't find a position some where, but what would his contract be? If he sat and on the bench behind other players because he didn't have a spot on the team, I think that would greatly diminish his earning potential. Wouldn't that tick you off????

No I said Ellis would handle his situation much better than TO handle his and that is a fact. Ellis is not telling BP to shut up or don't talk to me. Ellis has come out listened and done what is being asked of him, Cowboys are not having to send him home. Ellis was asked a question by the media and he answered them he and has done so without trashing others in the process. It is how you handle yourself that does matter some do it as professional other as the punk they are.

But it's not about the money? Right? Isn't that right?

yea, he's kinda talking out of both sides of his mouth.
On one hand, he wants a committment from Jerry and Bill.
On the other, he says he understands they can't commit to him until they find out if he can play LB.
Not sure if he even knows what he is trying to say.

He also has the potential to do the reverse in a much more efficiant manner. It is a double standard and I understand the reasoning but it doesn't make it any less distasteful.

Greg Ellis is the poster child of class.

My hat is off to him, as always.

It's guys like Greg that should be given the healthy bonuses and recognition; not T.O.'s.

I agree! That's the post of the day!!!

  • I don't want to be embarrassed on TV. I don't want to let the team down. If we lose a game because of me I would have a hard time dealing with that.

You've got to wonder how Greg felt during three straight 5-11 seasons, when this team got embarassed on a routine basis. I wonder if he had a hard time dealing with the disappearing act he would routinely pull late in games?

What was different, I wonder?

You apparently give points for style.

I don't.

I guess that is a fundamental difference between how we look at two people who basically have the same fundamental agenda.

They both want money and security and wanted "commitments" from their respective organizations.
