You can have 3 T. Newmans and 3 Kavika Pittmans. I will take 3 Larry Browns and 3 D. Wares.
I will take the guys that disrupt the timing of plays and wreak havok over a solid cover corner every time. How many "big" plays has Newman made since he got here?
The Giants showed last year in the playoffs that it is all about getting to the QB not who is in the secondary. I like Newman but he is anything but unbeatable and he is not even in the same league as Deion, not even close. Jimmy Johnson was able to put some strong defenses on the field by finding hard hitting ball hawks and guys who could win the battles in the trenches.
Your argument is still incredibly one sided. I know every team likes to refer to the last team that won the superbowl as to how their team should be built.
Last year, the Colts proved you could do it with a superb offense and plugs on defense, a young and versibtile running back, as long as it gels at the right time.
The Steelers proved you need a good defense with quality linebackers and a strong secondary to go with tremendous running.
The Patriots proved you can do it with aging linebackers, smart veterans, a smart offensive line and a talented defensive line even if you have mediocre receivers.
and so on.
The Chargers had the most sacks in 2006. No Superbowl.
The Seahawks had the most sacks in 2005. No Superbowl.
The Falcons had the most sacks in 2004. No Superbowl.
There are far too many variables to look at cornerbacks and point them out as the singular most overrated position.
And this is all coming from someone that considers linebackers his most favorite position on an entire football team.
