Lance suffered two freak injuries.

The kid is gifted with QB talent.

We got lucky.
Its not the injuries though the fact that by 2024 he will have not been a starter at any level since 2019 for more than 1 game in a season is a pretty big concern, but the fact that he has massive holes in his game. His accuracy is JaMarcus Russell levels of bad, his release is slow, and his ability to read defenses was poor and that was obvious even in the preseason, and is how he lost out to Sam Darnold. His strengths are that he is very mobile and has a canon for an arm, but he is a very raw player and teams have seen those 2 things and figured they could fix the rest.

He did not lose out to Sam Darnold as a backup because of injury. He lost out to Sam Darnold as a backup because even Sam Darnold was a better QB than him.

It's called a 4th-round rookie contract so stop the claim Dak did Dallas a favor when in early 2019 JJ offered Dak a $32M/year deal but Dak turned it down demanding more money, just as he did in 2020.....Dak is about the money, period.
I didn't say Dak was doing anyone any favors. My point was the opposite. He didn't ask for a favor. He hasn't given one.

Solidifying the defense by extending Diggs, the raise Martin received, trading for Lance, today's extension of Steele and the incoming extension of Lamb is all being done as part of a strategic roster construction so that when Dak and the front office negotiate a new deal, the front office is going to be able to say we've given you all these key pieces for success, now it's time that you work with us.

Plus, the front office is going to let them know they can not budge with Micah needing an extension as soon as next year.

Dak got the max deal last time around.

Now it's time for him to take a team friendly deal for a Superbowl run.

If not, then it will be best for both parties to go their separate ways.

Hopefully a team friendly extension is worked out with Dak.

They'll either roll the dice on Trey Lance next year or draft a QB Round 1 next year.

The draft class is loaded at the position and I coule see Dallas trading a lot of draft capital to move up and get a QB they want.
49’ers rolled the dice on him. How’d that turn out?

If Dak does what he has done most of his career, which has NFL coaches, scouts. and executives near universally considering him a top 10 QB, he will still land on his feet with the worst case being a 1 year deal worth 45m then cashing in at exactly the same time as previously. Meanwhile the Cowboys will have 70m in dead money spread out over 2 years with their starter being someone who could not beat out Sam Darnold who is not considered a top 35 QB.

The response would be something akin to "talked to the agent and I have no idea how this story leaked in February about your plans to release June 1 but now everyone knows it and knows I was only willing to consider dropping a no trade clause for team x... have a nice day and good luck getting any value from them now when they know they are the only game in town and that they are sure to get me June 1st and enjoy the 70m dead cap hit". If that is your best leverage you have no leverage.
$61M in dead money spread out over 3 years, not $70M. Oh, and given that would amount to dead money hits the next 3 years of $25.4M, $25.4M, and $11M Dallas would actually be saving $34M in 2024 and $11M in 2025 if Dallas released him in 2024....so Dallas in fact does have leverage in terms of cap flexibility by saying to Dak enough is enough should he falter again this season.

Dude is going to do what’s best for him and his goals, just like everyone here would do. He may be more interested in creating generational wealth than winning a SB. Or not. I don’t know the guy. And no, the $160MM isn’t generational wealth.

The whole ‘team friendly’ thing is nonsense. If a guy values winning a championship above all else, he’s ‘being friendly’ to himself, which just happens to help the team. NFL teams will jettison the most loyal player on the team. It’s hard to ask a guy to be more loyal to his employer than they are to him in any industry.

Who is more anxious to have Dak sign an extension with Dallas, Dak or the Cowboys. The answer to this question is the answer to who has more leverage.

:hammer::hammer::hammer:

They try to strike fear in our cap hearts and bamboozle us that OMG Dak has to be extended at all cost because of the cap situation.
I laugh in their face!
Another Dak lovers fairy tale gone to the curb.

It’s crazy the stuff that gets said on this site concerning Dak.

He’s a good QB, a leader and my all accounts a solid individual.

Leverage? What leverage? Rush isn’t nearly as good and Lance is currently a project that the team that gave a kings ransom to draft him just let him walk.

This is our guy for a while. Just accept that fact. We could do much worse

Hopefully he can get over the hump and win a championship.

Dak played on 2mil as the 4th year starter instead of signing a below market extension.

I don't see a guy feeling he owes the franchise anything, and he has a point. If they try to box Dak into taking another below market contract, I can totally see him walking.
When Dak was getting 1 million per season these guys were still complaining and wanted to move on. LOL
