Dak costs too much. For average play.

In before page 50... with what?In before page 50. Usually I’m later than that on Dak threads.
This one will be a doozy. Maybe I should have said page 100?
No he did not. You seem to have failed to mention the 12 and 5 record in back to back years and two playoff wins. .How many other playoff wins did we have in 25 years prior??? We have only 5 since 1996. And Dak has 2 of the five. Think about this, we only made the playoffs from 1996 until 2016, 8x. Dak has been in 5 playoff games since 2016. I agree Dak needs to play better, but football is not a one man game. How many times has the defense let us down in the playoffs?? Other GM's will pick up Dak. He is a good starting QB in this league, despite what some of our fans think. It's been 3 years since he received his market setting deal.
He's won 1 playoff game and did not have a great 2022 season with 15 interceptions and a poor performance against SF in the playoffs.
His pay rate requires much more success than what he has produced.
Dak has lost leverage.
Spread, not save. Dak must be paid every cent his deal calls for and it must be accounted for. Dak is in a good place financially. His age and body of work will garner him $60 million AAV if he’s a free agent for the 2025 season. If the Cowboys think Trey Lance will ever be a more proficient NFL quarterback than Dak Prescott they should move the team to Disneyland. That’s where that kind of fantasy belongs. They can release Dak and designate him as a post June 1 cut.
saves tons of cap $$$.
Courtesy of UsArmyVet.......With Dak's cap hit in 2024 currently being $59 million the Cowboys don't have much leverage. They can't "go their separate ways" or choose to do nothing, and pay Micah Parsons. They have to reduce Dak's cap hit, and Dak's agent knows it. They made their bed when they waited to pay Dak and ended up maxing out on him.
Yep! Predicted Dak would get big Mike fired but I thought it was going to be last year. I had no idea it was Moore he was going to get fired. I guess Mike is this year.I think Jerry is ready to move on.
He wanted a Return on Investment.
Didn’t get it.
Big Mike is likely next.
Dak leaves a wake of careers in his path.Yep! Predicted Dak would get big Mike fired but I thought it was going to be last year. I had no idea it was Moore he was going to get fired. I guess Mike is this year.
do you seriously think that's how NFL negotiations work?Solidifying the defense by extending Diggs, the raise Martin received, trading for Lance, today's extension of Steele and the incoming extension of Lamb is all being done as part of a strategic roster construction so that when Dak and the front office negotiate a new deal, the front office is going to be able to say we've given you all these key pieces for success, now it's time that you work with us.
Plus, the front office is going to let them know they can not budge with Micah needing an extension as soon as next year.
Dak got the max deal last time around.
Now it's time for him to take a team friendly deal for a Superbowl run.
If not, then it will be best for both parties to go their separate ways.
Hopefully a team friendly extension is worked out with Dak.
Dak I think is gonna be a June 1 cut Next yr unless this team goes to the superbowl
Just let Dak know that David Carr can probably be signed for the league minimum.
and please explain to us all the years and no superbowl or CCG before 2016. I will wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait.... NADAThe money is irrelevant when the player does not have the Talent base to produce the results that are desired.
Folks wake up please as we have a very talented team not winning Superbowls due to the ineptness of the most important position on the field.
Have Dak play for free.
What is really going to change?
NADA!!!!
P.S. If the last 2 Niner playoff losses didn't convince you then consider yourself a Dak fan and follow him to his next team which by the way he will be warming up the bench sooner than later!!!
JJ to Dak if Dak stinks it up this season:
"We have provided you every opportunity talent-wise to secure this organization at least an NFCCG appearance and for whatever reason you have not delivered, in spite of me giving you the contract you demanded.
Well, we need to move on so for the betterment of this organization and for you, I am asking you to remove your no-trade clause so we can try and find a team that you would want to go to. You can, of course, refuse to remove your no-trade clause as that is your right.
However, it is also my right as owner and GM to do what I have to in order to absorb your $59M cap hit next season to retain your rights as we move on and give Trey Lance the starting job for 2024. As such, I expect you would be supportive of him and this organization. That said, if you choose not to report to the team I have the right to fine you for every day missed.
Then, after the 2024 season, I will release you after June 1st to save this organization the $36M in dead money your release will cost us. Most organizations will have their QBs in place by then so you can settle for an offer from a lower-rung team or a team wanting to offer a 1-year prove-it deal.
So while I appreciate all you have done for the organization, at the end of the day I can and will do what I think is best for this organization first and foremost....so it's your call Dak: you can drop your no-trade clause or you sit while this team moves forward.
Talk to your agent and let me know what you want to do. You have 3-days to get back to me before I make the decision."
No one knows what is going through Jerry's mind, so you could be right. The Cowboys have gained 0 leverage with Lance. It would be akin to me saying put down that AK-47 because I now have a single action revolver.Solidifying the defense by extending Diggs, the raise Martin received, trading for Lance, today's extension of Steele and the incoming extension of Lamb is all being done as part of a strategic roster construction so that when Dak and the front office negotiate a new deal, the front office is going to be able to say we've given you all these key pieces for success, now it's time that you work with us.

Which tells you that it isn't about the money but rather the play of the QB.When Dak was getting 1 million per season these guys were still complaining and wanted to move on. LOL
Releasing Dak in 2024 as a post June 1st cut actually saves $34M against the cap so that isn't leverage for Dallas? With Dak's cap hit in 2024 currently being $59 million the Cowboys don't have much leverage. They can't "go their separate ways" or choose to do nothing, and pay Micah Parsons. They have to reduce Dak's cap hit, and Dak's agent knows it. Preach kind Person! Preach!!No he did not. The new NFL rule allows 2players to be designated as post-June 1st cuts and Dallas does in fact 'save' money by releasing Dak in 2024 as a post-June 1st cut: his cap hit for 2024 is $59M with $61M in dead money that would be spread out, according to Over the Cap, over 3 years with dead money hits in 2024 & 2025 of $25M and $11M in 2026....so $59M (Dak's 2024 cap hit) minus $25M (Dak's dead money hit for 2024) 'saves' Dallas $34M against the 2024 cap....which while not being used towards free agents per say can be used towards extensions for Lamb and Parsons should Dallas choose to go that way.I do not think you quite get how June 1 cuts work. There are a few things you have wrong but the most important one is something you actually briefly touched on but glossed over: most free agents are already signed by June 1 and June 1 cuts do not actually save you money overall but simply spread out the cap hit. Therefore you did not "save" 30m but spread out the 60m over time, which is fine if you actually have something to spend it on but is pointless otherwise. Therefore there is no actual threat there. You would designate him a post June 1 (you can have one of those) which would allow you to spend the savings at the start of free agency and would let him negotiate elsewhere. That is about the only move you can make because it is the only move that makes sense for the Cowboys. Unfortunately the only move that makes sense for the Cowboys gives them 0 leverage and everyone knows it.
The threat of "if you do not give us what we want we will cut you so you can sign a record deal while we massively downgrade at QB, and pay one of the largest dead cap hits ever" is not really much of a threat. It just simply is not.

While Dallas doesn't 'save' the $61M and you are correct that it gets spread out, it does actually 'save' them money in 2024 and 2025.
Oh, and the threat is that Dak has $0 guaranteed money remaining on his deal with 2 voidable years (2025 & 2026) with a $5M roster bonus due March 21st so JJ could play the difficult businessman and actually pay Dak his $5M roster bonus on March 21, 2024 and wait until actually June 1st to designate Dak a post-June 1st release designated player, well after both free agency has begun and the NFL draft has taken place thereby leaving very few teams in need of a QB.
