Whatever you said. It certainly wasn't simple.
I said? These are your words:
It will be real laughable if he wins the next 2 in a row.
Your established position is that the quality and talent of the current team has the opportunity of winning championships in the next two years. Your stating that it will be 'real laughable' is that the triumph of the team, assembled under Jerry Jones as general manager, will be a vindication of the criticism directed at him for decades.
You framed your assumption for what might happen in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Here's the thing. Jerry Jones has been the general manager since 1989. He was the general manager when the franchise won three Super Bowls. He is also the
same general manager who oversaw the franchise not winning and/or competing in an NFL championship
OR reaching an NFC Championship game
OR winning an NFC Divisional game.
The vast majority of NFL general managers.
Scratch that.
The vast majority of general managers or their equivalents in every professional team sport.
Scratch that. Athletic directors are the equivalent of general managers at the collegiate level.
The vast majority of general managers and athletic directors in both professional team sports and universities around the world are normally either fired or they resign within several years of not achieving some level of championship success.
So. If it is 'real laughable' for Jones' critics to witness him achieve ultimate success this season and in 2024, what should be the reaction of his critics for not achieving the same thing over the past 27 seasons?
I got this.
It is, and has been, extremely sobering, that he has never made the typical business decision, in both professional and collegiate team sports, of hiring a competent, qualified football executive as a general manager. Someone, who could introduce a new vision and direction for coaching and player acquisitions, to accomplish the goal he wants.
Zero hires. No hire who lasted several years. No hire who lasted several months. No hire who lasted several days. Hours. Minutes. Seconds. Zlitch.
I hope Jones oversees a Super Bowl win this year. Next year. Every year, no matter how impractical that is. As an NFL owner, he deserves it. We, the fans, deserve it. However, that possible success is just that if-and-until it becomes a reality. Until that happens it's just a possibility, holding no more importance or relevance than any of the last 27 Super Bowls victories he did
not oversee as self-appointed for life GM of the Dallas Cowboys franchise.
