I may be in the minority here but I am not all that hot on Melton. Yes, he may be an upgrade over what we have but he has some character issues and has an injury history. I would have liked to get Peppers - if the price was right but now that he is gone I would like to look at Allen. He is a high character, good work ethic guy that could also provide some guidance to the youngsters that I expect we bring in...by the truckload during and after the draft, I hope.

I just don't think Allen would play for a price we can afford. It would be nice to sign him to an incentive laden deal and then pay him on par with his performance. This D line is in shambles.

I would rather have 3-4 guys that get 6-8 sacks a year honestly. You can't double team 4 guys and a 6-8 sack guy doesn't make 10 mil plus per season either.

Our teams of the early 90's had a solid group that rotated through and stayed fresh throughout the game - none of them really stars in their own right except Haley. Some of them got paid big bucks and left but were never all that great on their own. I would like to see a bunch of young, hungry kids that want to play, love the game, and can be part of the team. Let's hope Rod can put something together because it is not looking too good right now.

He doesn't have an injury "history." He's suffered one injury that is easily repairable nowadays.

Hey he made Melton hopefully he can make another one here. Its still not over by any means, do for depth and make donald your centerpiece. Hell I'd even like to see and solid rotation over 1 good d lineman and a bunch f scrubs.

This line can be fixed its just gonna take some time.

Would you guys want to bring in Melton if we have to overpay for him? Lets just see who gets him and how much he gets. I am not comfortable giving him anything more than $5 mil per season and don't want to give that guy a long term deal until he shows that A. he's healthy and B. That he's done being a night time knucklehead.

well give Jerry 4.99mil and he'll put in the rest to ease your comfort level.

Honestly, I'm disappointed that we signed anybody. Hatcher's contract *should* net us a 4th rounder, if we lose more free agents than we sign, so if it were up to me, I'd only sign cut players.

Dont sign any FAs to hope for compensation picks? And you people have to nerve to question Jerry Jones?

You do know that Tyson Jackson got a 5 year 25 million dollar deal right? Melton would be closer to doubling that.

Jackson wasn't coming off an ACL and off the field issues either.

@RapSheet Henry Melton made it to Dallas, where he'll visit with the #Cowboys this week. Was negotiating with #Seahawks last night, others in the mix

Dallas needs him. I think him playing in front of his family could play a part in it. Of course he wants to get paid a Deal somewhere in the ballpark of what Hatcher got im sure will be the neighborhood he's looking for. And for a guy who has a great history with Marinelli it would be a nice deal

The 90s lines still were not warmed over garbage. There was a nice blend of experience and youth. Hennings, Casillas, Tolbert, Lett, Jimmie Jones and Maryland. Not really stars but almost all of them were capable of starting at any given time.

I understand wanting young hungry players. Fact is though, you cannot have a line completely devoid of experience. Someone has to show these kids how to be professionals. Who's going to lead this line? Two washouts lucky to have the status they do because we are so depth poor in George Selvie and Jeremy Mincey? Crawford and Bass don't even know what they are doing yet. A vet, a successful vet, not one who is basically only here because he was cheap would have helped. Melton at least has a Pro Bowl under his belt and knows what Marinelli wants.

Anava nailed it earlier. People will turn on the DL Whisperer in a heartbeat once this group hits the field.

And one thing about Marinelli. How is he going to tend to the entire defense when he basically will be babysitting a completely inexperienced line? He will not be able to do what he did last year with the parade of scrubs.

Trust me if we could sign him at a 5 year 30 million dollar deal, I would be thrilled, but a passrusher is worth way more than a 1 tech like Jackson in a 4-3.

I would happily give Melton a Hatcher-level contract. Even more in fact. He's a perfect fit at a critical position.
