The problem for me was these concerns were known pre-draft.

I hope he figures it all out and not just because he was a Cowboys 1st round pick, but the lack of accountability from the GM keeps drafting players who have glaring deficiencies and/or red flags. Randy Gregory, Jaylon Smith, Kelvin Joseph, Taco Charlton. Three out of their four draft picks from last year are looking really suspect right now.

Sam Williams will be another one.

I have strong feelings and Broaddus and the piling on Mazi does this team no good.

Is he piling on or is he just giving us the information he is hearing? Not everyone is cut out for the bright lights and expectations. Could be a perfectly valid concern about the players ability to contribute the way he needs to.

Maybe I was having a little fun about the pics. Can you tell I don’t like the guy? He has always rubbed me the wrong way. Very dismissive and rude to fans for years on the radio and in the Cowboys’ studio. His I was in the room shtick drives me nuts because I think he is wrong about nearly everything.

Anyhoo I hope Mazi is ok. They need him.

Smith’s shoulder surgery could be hampering his ability to make any drastic improvement before Year 2, and now it appears other factors are at play in his developmental curve.

In a recent podcast, former Cowboys scout and current media personality Bryan Broaddus hinted there may be some mental health angles to Smith’s struggles in his rookie season.

I said this in another post earlier, it has to be something mental, everyone is coming out saying that they didn't ask him to lose weight etc, maybe it's something like depression/etc going on

Same deal with unrestricted free agency, Stephen and Jerry are awful at it, so they just sit it out rather than try to improve upon the talent identification process.

Exactly right. Besides Mazi at DT, I also believe that Sam Williams at EDGE and Tolbert at WR3 have to make the jump this season as well. With the shape of our RB group - they all 3 have to make the jump or we are definitely screwed

Yep. Also LBs like Overshown who has yet to play and coming off a season ending injury, rookie Liufau, Diggs coming off his ACL, and needing rookies like Guyton and Beebe to come in and start immediately.

Should be an interesting season having to rely on a number of backups and rookies to have to step up and even start.

One thing I noticed last year is how small Smith looked compared to Hankins. We all know Mazi lost a lot of weight, which is a yellow flag in itself. But if he is going to be a 1T he needs to get a lot bigger. In the picture in this article, he looks like a LB.

I guess at this point we have to wonder why they picked him. If he admits he doesn't like football, then he will never give 100% on the football field. Liking to hit people is not enough because when those people are hitting back harder it can be demoralizing. Like Mike Tyson said, "everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth."

I am not trying to be insensitive, but football players have to play angry with focus. Guys feeling sorry for themselves, or brooding over their inability to play well are useless.

Maybe Broaddus is wrong. I hope so, but it Mazi does not make a major improvement this year, the Cowboys defense will struggle. And again, we knew DT was a weakness. What did they do to fix the problem? and don't tell me the answer is Carl Davis.

Didn't he also let rent go unpaid on a storage unit with thousands of dollars of items in it? Not junk stuff, like high end sneakers, electronics, etc. Clearly doesn't have his crap together it seems. Hope he is getting help.
