Eagles meeting with Goff and Wentz again this week. Look for them to try to trade up to the number 1 or 2 pick.

I don't mind QB in the first. Think it may be the smart move and hope they do well in Rds 2-4.

My issue with the trade back is it sounds great on paper but the reality is not many teams in todays NFL are willing to give up high picks or future picks just to move up. I just think of a team is going to trade up it won't be at 4, it will be to jump us and they'll do it with a horrible place like CLE.

I think Ramsey is a BPA if QB is not the call. Not a fan of Bosa at 4.

The question of how long can Tony play? Well, if you look at this historically, never mind the issues we all know he has with his health, here are the ages of 20 of the greatest QBs to ever play in the NFL. These are listed alphabetically.

Troy Aikman 34
Sammy Baugh 38
John Elway 38
Brett Favre 41
Dan Fouts 36
Otto Graham 34
Bob Griese 35
Jim Kelly 36
Payton Manning 40
Dan Marino 38
Joe Montana 38
Warren Moon 44
Joe Namath 34
Ken Stabler 39
Bart Starr 37
Roger Staubach 37
Fran Tarkenton 38
Johnny Unitas 40
Kurt Warner 38
Steve Young 38

The average age of retirement of these 20 QBs is 37.65. Off these 20 QBs, only five played past the age of 38. The majority of them, nine, played to the average age of 37-38.

If you just look at these numbers, it strongly suggests that the likely hood of Tony playing another 5 years is very unlikely. Never mind what the actual level of play is. Just simply playing that long. Tony is 36 now. 5 more years puts him at 41.

You just can't really read that statement by the team of 4 or 5 more years and intelligently believe that it's true, regardless of how much Jerry or anybody else in the organization would like it to be. The reality is that it's probably two more years if we are lucky.

Those are some very telling numbers.

its amazing to me how people say that the Cowboys taking a QB in the first is a bad idea because Tony is here and counts so much against the cap, but it is totally logical for the Eagles to trade into down to take a QB, when they have $18 million invested in Bradford and $7 million invested in Daniels. The Cowboys don't even have a backup.

More telling then even those numbers, of the 5 QBs who played past the age of 38, only Johnny Unitas played with the same team that he came up with (Age 39) and his last 4 seasons in the league, he was backup.

I'm surprised that average is so high, actually.
Even just at the average, that would give Romo 3 full years before he's thru 38. He'd be 39 entering and finishing his 4th year. Kind of don't see that 4th year.
I'd still take a QB if you see one that's worth the pick. I felt that way last year too.

Tony is 35 right now and will turn 36 in 8 days. There are those who really believe that Jerry would not cut Tony early but I think he would. He did it to Troy who was arguably the greatest QB in the history of the Franchise. As I recall, Jerry waived Troy to save 6 or 7 million against the cap and left the team on the hook for 10 million in cap hit. The Cowboys not only need to be thinking about a QB in this draft but they need to be thinking starting Franchise QB and not just a guy who can back up IMO.

With what?

The birds traded their 2nd to Stl in the Bradford trade last year. Their next pick after #8 is their 3rd pick (#77). Unless they're going to include a 2nd next year, and I don't even think that would be enough, I just do not see what enticements the Eagles have to dangle that would make either Tennessee or Cleve be willing to drop 7 spots in the draft. If Tennessee and Cleve are willing to trade down I suspect they'd leverage any Philly offer and call Dallas before agreeing to any deal. Dallas won't offer as much but Dealing with Dallas would allow either to drop down only2/3 spots instead of 6/7. At 4 they could still select a Tunnel or Ramsey. Both of those guys will be off the board by 7 or 8.

all I cam say is they took Wentz out to dinner a few weeks ago along with owner. They did the same with Goff. The coach likes Wentz and they are both coming back for visit. I wont put anything past them, since they were able to get rid of Murray, Alonzo and Maxwell fairly easily. Maybe if Chip loves Bradford so much, they will trade him to SF if they can work out Kapernick to Denver trade.

Oh, I don't question their will to trade up to select a QB. I question their means of doing so. Without a 2nd its going to be hard to entice either Tenn or Cleveland to drop down 6/7 spots. They could go "full Ditka" but outside of that it'll be expensive to move up to the top pick especially when you're not getting an A. Luck or even Can Newton in return.

Jerry has already said he plans on Romo starting for several years, so I just don't think he'll take a QB at #4. To me it seems far more likely he'll opt for a power running game like we had with Murray and draft Elliot. Maybe he'll take a QB with a later pick, but I can't help but wonder if Kellen Moore throwing for over 400 yards has him thinking he may already have his #2 QB.

I want to see Kellen taking all backup duties in a full offseason. He did some good things and he did some things all QBs do in first real game action. ....including Romo.

Not saying don't take a QB in saying to write off Moore after a couple games is crazy. Also I don't see any of these QBs in the draft coming in and doing a better job

This board blows up all the time so nothing new there. As for me you bet I want Dallas taking a QB, however I know there are some other prospect out there in other positions and if that ends up being the directions the Cowboys take then all I can do as a fan is hope that player develops into a pro bowl type player. I may still think it was a mistake on the Cowboys part but too old to pout and throw temper tantrums

What does pouting and throwing temper tantrums have to do with age? This is a legit go to move designed to instantly gratify the inner child in all of us. I don't endorse employing that move on the boss but it seems to work for a certain extremely wealthy POTUS candidate. :muttley:

It means not coming down on the player, I don't who Dallas will choose but I know who I would like. Whom ever the selection is I will support the player and be welcoming instead of acting childish and slamming the player.

I'd honestly like to say I will respond the same way to the Cowboy's 1st draft selection but frankly, I'm going to be angry if they don't yield to my will.

All I care about after this draft is how stupid good Dallas ran it.
