I think they realize they have to get something in place for Rod M. to be DC. If not, once Lovie Smith gets a job, Rod M. is gone to be his DC. Would not be surprised to see Lovie wind back up in Tampa.

Because they want him to be retired and they want to do it in a way that keeps Marinelli here as DC instead of him moving on to be DC somewhere else.

That's probably the answer. If they want Marinelli, they have to make sure they let go of Kiffin as respectfully as possible.

Just fire him already.

It's not like he did anything good for the organization. If Jerry the GM had to worry about his job, Kiffin would be gone already, but since he's the owner too he does stuff like this.

If Marinelli stays, he stays. If he goes, he goes. Whatever.

Leslie Frazier is out there if Marinelli wants to leave.

Unlike last year, it looks like Jerry wants things very comfortable this offseason.

Pat Haden knows how to fire a Kiffin... get him off the bus and take off without him.

Scapegoat #1,321 is about to be led to slaughter.

Anything to keep Garrett and protect Jerry's experiment.

Just like always. Yes, Kiffin does need to go, but he never should've been hired in the first place but once again Jerry listened to Lacewell and it blew up in our face again.

But Garrett should be the first out the door. Instead he'll be back again and Jerry will try sell the new DC as the big change that will turn everything around. Same ol, same ol.

If Jerry will hurry & make him retire they can have his retirement party & the New Years Party at Jerry's house the same night & save on the catering.

This makes sense.

I never figured Kiffin to be there long..

just long enough to get things going.

Marinelli can take Kiffin as an assistant..consultant..whatever.

Jerrah can give Kiffin his own box to watch the games from.

He's totally respected and it's just time to step back and let others carry on.

This shouldn't be a big deal.

This is no more to this than when Ernie Zampese left or Hudson Houck left..

Not necessarily, Jerry can deny Marinelli to be interviwed. The promotion clause does not exist anymore.
Only way Jerry agrees, is if they want to replace entire defensive staff.

But wouldn't hiring Lovie Smith as DC placate Marinelli? Unless RM is wanting to be DC and would resent being stepped over, that is.

I had heard that Lovie is getting some serious feelers from the Bucs for their vacancy. Not just a Rooney Rule filler, but a real interest.

I knew that this was the only way that would work to keep Marinelli...

Yep... Lovie probably ends up in Tampa, Rod might not be far behind!
