You can turn it on its head if it makes you feel better but reasonable doubt is the standard you have to overcome and not the basis for a conviction.
It isn't the standard any of us have to overcome since we are not sitting on a jury in a criminal trial.

You should note it also isn't the standard Goodell will have to overcome when he decides how to punish Hardy. Good chance whomever signs him won't even see him until late October at the soonest.

Let someone else sign this guy. I want no part even at a discount.

You dont think he hit her? Or do you think she was sober and reality hit her that she was about to lose her meal ticket by going thru this? Dont be naive

I don't think he hit her. She was confronted about it in the first trial by his attorney who said that she claimed he physically abused her and yet somehow she wasn't hurt, she hadn't even broken a nail. Her response was,"I broke my toe nail."

You think he hit her in the toe, or do you think he couldn't hit her hard enough to leave a mark? If there were actually marks you know we'd all be looking at the pictures.

I don't think he hit her, and she broke her toe nail when she was kicking his car (as reported by witnesses).

You were with me on the Mario Williams bandwagon with me couple of years ago weren't you?

The Simeon Rice talk reminds me of how successful that signing was for Kiffin and Marinelli's defense.

Yeah.

And I remember what a factor Simeon Rice was for the Buccaneers defense. The missing piece that made their front four - and by virtue the entire defense - run.

I think Marinelli's scheme can manufacture some measure of inside pressure with scheme, but I don't think it can on the outside. So in my opinion, DE is a much bigger need than DT.

That is a GREAT point and one i forgot about altogether- the Bucs signed Rice as a FA when the Arizona Cardinals declined to re-sign him. IIRC, Rice was one who was considered somewhat of a bust up to that point as well, a guy who hadn't lived up to his potential as a former first-round pick. Rice also then became one of the more pivotal pieces of that SB winning Bucs team, showing the nay-sayers that some big name Free-agents CAN actually be for the BETTERMENT of the team...

Goodell has a tough sell if he tries to punish Hardy for this. Being charged isn't the same as being guilty. Ask any Pats fan.

I know the NFLPA is pretty weak, but if they don't fight tooth and nail for Hardy then that would set a horrible precedent.

I think if you apply a logical approach here the simplest conclusion is that there was a deal struck with the witness to not testify and cause the dismissal of the case.

Why would you do that if you knew you could hire the best lawyers and you were in the right?

Because that was the real motive? Getting paid rather than getting justice? She looks to be doing really well for herself skiing in Colorado, shopping in New York.

Nice to see that she survived the trauma...

If he really didn't abuse this woman that's the sad part. It's in Goodell's hands. Sad.

Whether he got paid or not, they made him sit out almost all of 2014, even a playoff game. To try and get more games and new fines after the charges were dropped would be an absolute abuse of power.

Introduce Goodell, he's just big enough an idiot to make him sit the six games because he himself made a mess last year.

Goodell has a tough sell no matter what he does. The usual critics will attack him no matter how he handles it.

Sorry, but there's light years of difference between sitting out and getting paid versus sitting out and not getting paid.

The only difference is money

Missing the playoffs while your team is out there had to be a killer

Add to that a year of his career is gone that he will never get back.

And make no mistake that this situation will be a huge negative for his asking price in any negotiations.

Goodell is no longer in charge of determining guilt or meting out punishments in regards to the conduct policy in the wake of a series of gaffes and the Rice debacle. He has been replaced institutionally.

We have no idea what information the NFL has or does not have so predicting what they will find is nothing but a wild guess. We have no way of knowing his chances with the NFL. If you thought for sure he was going to convicted here at this trial then perhaps his chances should be reconsidered.

This is conjecture on my part but I do not see the NFL doing anything. They very easily could have meted out punishment following the original bench trial. instead they took a wait and see approach. I don't see this outcome worsening his prospects. Quite the contrary frankly.

Since when does the evidence they have or don't have matter? They'll do the safe thing which minimizes bad publicity and, as they learned this past season, being harsh with a player in this situation gets far less bad press than being lenient.

It mattered to the previous commissioner and Tagliabue's input was a huge factor in the creation of the new enforcement system when Goodell's authority was revoked.

This is a brand new policy and institution. There is an oversight board and a lot of moving parts we have yet to see in action. Will be interesting to see what happens as things move forward but there is anything but certainty.

I respect your opinion and think that those that feel as you do have a place. It has merit and should be heard but we shall see.

the main thing he's guilty of is putting himself in this situation all for the nookie. There are PLENTY of chicks in Charlotte that aren't even chasing cleats, if you're buying what I'm selling. It's a fun town. He should have been smarter about his selection.

He is a celebrity, gold diggers everywhere you go

It would be like giving out one suspension and then deciding later to make it an indefinite suspension. It would be PANDEMONIUM!!!!

Innocent until proven guilty. I didn't stop watching when Dallas Cowboy Safety CJ Spillman was accused of rape. Hardy isn't even on the team, he is just a potential signing.

BS. I don't want a guy who gets in this sort of situation
