IIRC, she is white. I can see some old school brother on the jury that would just see her as a gold digging druggie and would not vote to convict him regardless of the evidence.

I think the evidence is on Hardy's side or he wouldn't be appealing. If you read the transcript of his 911 call he is calm and completely reasonable, and its at the moment the woman claims he was threatening to murder her. He also said on the 911 call that he had video of the whole thing, plus they likely can isolate moments on the 911 call where the woman is screaming like a maniac. If the case was what his accuser claims, he already would have paid her off and tried to shove everything under a rug.

I think he will beat the charges and if he does, I hope he is the top FA target for Dallas. He would be a great fit for this team.

I spent some time reading all the articles on this and googled the key people. His accuser is white and the Judge was white, Hardy is black, huge and has a bunch of tats. The picture of the Judge pretty much had the words "stick up her..." in the caption, so I had the opposite reaction.

I don't accuse people of racism if I've never met them, but it isn't hard to imagine an old, white, female Judge seeing a young white girl in court charging a black defendant that is a foot taller than she is - and making up her mind on the outcome before hearing a word of testimony.

I haven't followed the case, but if he did it, I don't want us to reward a dirt bag like him with a Super Bowl. And I don't know how good he'd be (considering a 6 game suspension) having not played football in two years. I'd rather have guys who bully other elite athletes on the football field (Suh) than guys who bully little girls off the field.

And like Casmith pointed out, he was given zero punishment in the bench trial but is still appealing, which means his attorneys think they have a slam dunk case to win the appeal. In his 911 call he said he had video of the whole thing, combine that with the credibility of the accuser and lack of direct evidence, and Hardy probably has a very strong case to make.

Was he given probation?

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...na-panthers-guilty-2-counts-domestic-violence

Mecklenburg County Judge Rebecca Thorn-Tin sentenced Hardy to 18 months' probation. A 60-day jail sentence was suspended.

He was, bad phrasing on my part. I meant that he wasn't given any real punishment considering the woman accused him of battery and attempted murder. To the point above, if he is a thug I don't want him anywhere near the team. But the more I read about this case, the less I think he is. He has always been called a good teammate and this really seems like a crazy ex-girlfriend making false accusations.

But even with Probation he would be subject to a suspension. He was making around 12m last year, so a 6 game suspension would cost almost 5m. That is worth fighting for, let alone your good name.

My understanding is that in that state the judge is just a filter that has the option to throw out the case but is likely to indict if there is any possibility of guilt. It seems similar to a Grand Jury.

He was suspended for 15 regular season games and 2 playoff games in 2014. If he is acquitted, it's hard to imagine that 17 games is not enough of a punishment.

Yes, I think the Ray McDonald case was dismissed in part because he had video.

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has been placed on the NFL's commissioner exempt list until his domestic violence case is resolved.

That means he received all of his pay. The arbitrator in the Peterson case said time on the exempt list didn't count towards any suspension, so he would still have to serve 6 games without pay if found guilty on appeal.

He wasn't suspended - he was on paid leave from the team.

Yes, he got paid, but he was not allowed to play. Whatever you want to call it, there were 17 games that he missed. Would they force him to miss more games if he is acquitted? They could just fine him or they could say that 17 games missed is a sufficient penalty.

that has about a snowball's chance in **** of happening. any jury will be effected by the fact that a judge has already found him guilty and the pictures of her afterwards are ridiculous.

I read up on his case and the judge was considered bias towards Hardy. The ex-girlfriend is known to be a gold digger and has done this in the past. She wasn't even invited to his party and she came in anyways. Then she filed lawsuit which stated that Hardy abused him. His case was that he didn't even seen her during the party and that she was just out for his money. Thats why he is appealing it.

I think he is gonna win his case. The first judge showed bias and wanted to make a name for herself. That is why I think she gave him the guilty verdict.

You never rooted for Michael Irvin, Nate Newton, etc.. ?

There are likely many many current and ex Cowboys that were not very good humans even if they didn't get in trouble. I know people that have had to work with players in some events and/or media and some players that seem fine in their public perception are complete jerks to other people and sometimes to their own family members.

It's a fine line. You have Dez as your avatar. He's been accused of DV and other transgressions. But there is always your side, their side and then the truth.
