Does this mean he can now walk, run, sprint? Has he been able to do those things already? So confused.

Non story until it's officially announced by the Cowboys organization.

I wish someone from the team would come out and clarify this entire situation. And have the doctor explain this as well.
At this point there is no reason to hold any info or the truth back. Even though they love their day to day games and crap.

Well that's it...

I quite frankly don't believe anything at this point, not because it couldn't happen but because the information has been... Well... Confusing.

When Smith actually participates in a practice– then I'll be exited. And truthfully I still don't think he'll be doing that until 2017... Which is OK too, because I certainly wasn't planning on seeing him out there this season.

Hence my 'noodles....don't noodles' quote of that supreme philosopher-warrior Oogway...........

they wouldn't have activated him if it wasn't well along. I'm guessing it regenerated enough a couple months ago to where he could rehab. Activating him will now allow him to participate in team activities and give them a few weeks to see if he's able to practice, etc. Just my guess as the info released is limited and I agree, confusing.

They haven't activated him yet. He's been removed from NFI, and has three weeks to practice before a decision is made. David Helman said that the team doesn't even expect him to practice during that time, which means this is the first step towards placing Jaylon on IR next month.

People should really stop spreading misinformation to try to prove their fanhood or whatever. It really doesn't do anyone any favors.

There's a big gap between 'nerve firing' and 'back to his old self' still to overcome.

Sounds promising, though.

Here's a kid's balloon for you to pop while you're at it ..

This just makes it more confusing. It was supposed to be regenerating all along. Maybe this is why they have been so quiet. What has it been doing for the past 9 months if it wasn't regenerating? The nerve should have finished growing the full 6 inches a month ago. If it just started growing, that's not really good news. That's way behind schedule and could mean it never gets right. Like I said, this is totally confusing. Its supposed to be firing by now, not just starting to grow. That would mean 6-9 months of growing to go, waiting for it to fire, and then who knows how much rehab. That could be well into next season.

I think they are misusing the term, and what really must be happening is that he is starting to finally feel the results of the regeneration. That's my guess, that regeneration like you said, has been happening all along, but it's beginning to become apparent whether it be tingling, ability to lift the foot, or both.

by activating it was meant taking him off NFI so relax

I would really like clarification. Regenerate sounds a lot like regrow...and it had grown 2-3 inches back in april. I feel like there would have been a lot more to this if it had fired. This seems like "not news" to me. Im not a doctor though so this is just inference.

I provided a clarification in post #20

Well it really means nothing then. They had the choice of taking him off and having 3 more weeks with no obligation or not take him off and make the red shirt season official. They chose to keep him in play for 3 more weeks at the expense of...nothing.

Take the same approach I do. Im not really concerned about it right now because I veiw Smith as a 2017 player. To me the nerve regeneration means that he should be a full go by the time we kick off OTA's. Im not looking for him to contribute in 2016. Therefor I dont really have to read into news in a " will he be ready by the end of the season " context

I don't like using the term activate to refer to removing someone from NFI. If you make someone active, it should refer to being on the active roster.

I would question the point of taking him off NFI at all if there wasn't any possibility for him to participate this year.
