Just curious as to how the Rams hiring Spags makes Jerry an idiot? Now I haven't read every post on this thread so maybe I missed something. Why is this Jerry's fault?
Solid question.

Based on what?

I could be wrong for sure. He brought his wife to St. Louis on Friday night, and the Rams said the "search is over". They were going to name the guy today.

Why would you bring your wife to St. Louis if you were not sure you even had the job? I mean you could do it, but it seems a little different.

But where did the info come from in the first place? Sounds like it wasn't the team, so that only leaves one person.

I agree with you, Lab. Garrett may be the source of all the recent information or "his camp". I can see where you can reach that evaluation.

Good bye, iOwens. Don't let the door hit you in the butt.

Don't get me wrong I am not trying to start anything and Jerry is to blame for lots of things but I don't feel like this in one of them. Correct me if I missed something.

I'm not sure, he hasn't written back yet. Could Garrett possibly be calling Jerry's bluff that it's him or TO and Jerry promised him HC?

That'd be a Rooney Rule violation, but I could see Ray Sherman doing a 'interview'.

I don't think it is a violation to hire from within. At least not from what I have seen other teams around the league do.

Maybe he just wanted her to rent the movie 'Meet Me in St. Louis' and she misunderstood the question.

But why would you go back, taking your wife, and then turn them down?

All excuses. We all know Sparano was the architect of the 2007 seasons offense. But when the keys are handed over to Garrett he can't do anything with more talent on offense than last year. Predictable play calling blah blah blah. The Patriots lost Tom Brady but they still kept rolling. Why?? Because of coaching.

do you know? or do you think?

if it was all Sparano why did our offense in 2007 (w/ Garrett)outperform the 2006 offense(w/o Garrett) with just Sparano?

Maybe the contract offer hadn't been made yet and Garrett overestimated what the Rams would be willing to pay? That's my best guess.

Easy answer there is that '07 saw Romo with a full offseason with the 1s to develop and he played the entire season.

Umm Because maybe Romo came in half way through the season of 2006? We had Drew Deadslow. Did that ever enter into your mind??? Our Offense started showing signs of potential when Romo came in for Bledsoe. Even with conservative playcalling trying to protect Romo in his first year starting.. Think before you post. He finally started a full year in 2007 and broke records.

Why would you go back at all and turn them down?

And for those who think it was money:

A) I would assume some sort of financial discussions would have happened before booking a plane ticket and hotel and

B) Would anyone really turn down an NFL HC position because you happened to be the highest paid coordinator and the HC money was less?

I don't know. That is the million dollar question. I do know that not very many coaches turn down 3 jobs. Perhaps, Garrett really does want changes, and he played his hand.

I could see Phillips and Garrett together for a long time. In fact, if Jerry does make him HC at some point, as he has wanted to do all along, Phillips could slide into the DC position.

Yeah but isn't that same QB the reason why this team sucks according to most people on this board? Surely he can't be the answer can he? He is a loser who will never win right?

Or maybe he didn't turn the job down. Maybe he wasn't offered the position.

A) Possibly, but not necessarily. They may have said, "the flights on us, just come out here with your wife, let her see the city and we'll hammer out the contract details".

B) Would you take a "promotion" that pays you less money and forces you to move to a less desirable situation? Garrett assumes that he will get more head coaching offers in the future, either from Dallas or from other teams. It's a gamble, but it's probably a smart one.

Other than a late phone call from Jerry promising him the moon - and we'll see how things play out in the coming weeks - I can't think of an explanation that makes more sense than this.
