We have all heard the same things on other players in other years about this team or that won't trade for a guy, they will just wait until he is released. Sometimes they are and sometimes a trade happens. For Dallas, look at the facts, they don't have to release Romo until around June 1st because he isn't having any effect on what they want to do in free agency even if Dallas has more signing such as McCown QB, McFadden RB, or say Patterson WR. None of them will be at a high cost and based on the CB market and how soft it is becoming Carr and/or Claiborne could (COULD) still be options.
Now look at Houston and Denver and any others.
Houston's options are Savage and Weeden at QB or draft a guy. Seems like everyone agrees (scouts, analysts, us) that no QB in the draft is worth even a top 15 pick in fact most carry a late 1st round grade or worse, doesn't mean they will not go higher, just means they aren't near ready to start. Houston is a playoff team but not a Super Bowl contender without very good QB play. Sure they can play chicken and sure it appears that is where Romo wants to go, but unless they are putting a package for Jimmy G from Pats together, Romo is by far their best and only option. Frankly Dallas is probably holding out for a 2nd and Houston although denying it is probably offering a 7th and a conditional pick in 2018. If they want Jimmy G. it would cost them their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks, pretty high for a unknown who by the way got injured in the 1st two games this year.
Denver, the ultimate denier, has Siemen and Lynch. We all saw both of their outcomes last year and frankly neither is ready for the big time. In fact Denver is still rumored to have Siemen on the trade block and could be traded at any time with several teams looking at him such as Minnesota, Buffalo, Jets, Cleveland among them. Each have a need as a starter or backup. If Denver is willing to trade him, then do you really believe that they are going to resign Cutler as the guy, I think not. Denver is ready for another playoff run and they will need a guy that can get them there and sure Romo could be injuried but do you really think Elway is trusting either of his current guys to get him there, I don't.
Other options (or ones Romo most likely doesn't want), have you looking at mainly two, at least to me, Minnesota because of Zimmer although I think unlikely and believe it or not Cleveland, yes Cleveland. Cleveland will jettison Osweiller soon so don't think he will be there and Cody K. would be the guy or maybe Hogan but the management there wants to win and win now even if they are rebuilding. Look what they have done in free agency, They arguably have a top OL not with the signing of the guards and center along with Joe Thomas at LT and moving Cameron Erving to RT (where he should have been day 1 after he was drafted). They have better than decent RB and they do have a lot of good WR. There defense isn't near bad and will get a great DE with the 1st pick of the draft. They have 5 picks in the first 65 picks, not bad. So just for grins, what if they believe Romo could help them win the division, and WHAT IF a trade went down like this, Romo, Witten, Free, and #28 for Erving, #33, #52 and #65. So would you take that. Cleveland would have the QB and his best friend (and safety value) along with a RT he trusts along with 3 1st round picks. Dallas would have a better RT and former 1st round pick and 4 picks abet 2nd round guys but in a draft that is loaded with spots Dallas needs. Would Jerry be open to that, who knows but Romo would be especially since the guys going with him. Out of the question, probably, but you never say never in the NFL (sort of like really did any of us give Prescott to be the guy last year --- I think NOT).
Anyway, I look for the Romo deal to play out soon with some team caving in.
