Report: Wade Phillips 'completely safe'

Cowboys Defense - TM - DAL - Dec. 22 - 6:14 pm et ESPN's Chris

Mortensen said Monday that he sees Cowboys coach Wade Phillips' job as "completely safe" beyond this season.

While a loss at Philly in Week 17 would potentially end Dallas' season and have most Cowboys fans calling for Phillips' head, Mort says the struggling economy could weigh into owner Jerry Jones' decision. Mortensen also says Jones is a man of his word and has repeatedly said Phillips' job is safe.

I like Mortenson, but he also said that there was zero chance Pacman would ever play for the Cowboys again.

Dallas flops again this week - or in two weeks - and Phillips probably won't survive.

My guess is the entire staff is back, unchanged.
It wouldn't shock me. Jones has shown the penchant for the unbelievably stupid, as he did from 2000-2002.

If he relishes his team getting booed off the field in his new stadium the way they were the other night, then that's the right move.

to fire and search for a new coach. In my opinion unless Jerry already has someone in mind for the HC job. I don't believe he will fire Wade.

They have to say that. Means nothing. They want the team and coaching staff to focus on the games remaining. Ask him again after the season is over.

;)

If Bruce Read returns, I break things.
That's the one change I'd like to see. ST were never great under Bruce Dehaven, but they never stunk either.

I really think if we tank against the Birds Wade is gone. The mess ups on the defense against the Ravens really hurts. And the lack of effort and constant mistakes are kind of hard to miss. And Wade has not changed his tone or anything else= he has not reacted to try and rectify the situation. As a business man Jerruh knows that you have to be able to adjust your approach as conditions changed. Outside of calling the D plays, what has Wade changed this year to try and get the team on the right track?

I'm with you, but I'd be prepared for that to happen.

I don't see any rational reason why he would be retained.

And if he is, then Jerry Jones is an imbecile.

Lol @ a bad economy being a reason for keeping Phillips.

I'm glad Phillips is going no where, regardless.

I doubt Wade Phillips is retained if we don't win a Playoff Game.

If he is retained, Terence Newman would be correct when he stated on an ESPN interview that "the Coaching Staff has no accountability".

No, Mortensen is saying the exact opposite.

Jerry is so smart. Afterall he kept the great Dave Campo as head coach for 3 seasons.

I am puzzled. What exactly does that mean? Jerry Jones can't afford another coach? He does not want to put Phillips on the street in tough economic times?

Add this guy to the list: Hudson Houck

I agree. This OL has taken a definite step backwards from Sparano last season.
