I recall when Switzer, Gailey, and Campo were "safe" as well.

Switzer got caught with the tools he liked to carry so that was pretty much protocol. Campo pretty much worked through his contract from what I remember and was out DCing for Cleveland the following season. Now Gailey I think got cut short 1 year on a coaching decision.

Remember, Jerry doesn't like to pay out to coaches that don't run this team. It's fiscally smart but it's also putting your eggs in 1 basket for the term of the contract. It's very reasonable thinking but Jerry's problem is the majority of these coaches were unproven at the HC level and were locked into acontract. Jimmy coming from college would have been very risky despite his college success but we were 1-15 and needed change. He was brutal with Landry but what could he lose, we were 1-15 with the draft picks and no cap. In Jerry's defense, 3 years to turn a program around is reasonable.

I don't know the answer to this. How are the ticket sales going for the new stadium? Would a bad loss to Philly or in the first round of the playoffs and retention of Wade and staff turn people away from buying tickets? Probably not but I wouldn't want to pay big money in a tight economy for that stuff that was on the field Saturday night.

In the past month I have changed my mind about keeping Wade. They have to go get a new OC though. Doubt it will happen, and totally agree on ST. Our coverage unit has been a disgrace this year.

I think the best we can hope for is Bruce Read has learned something this year that will make him better next year. Wade's track record suggests he won't be getting rid of his special teams coach.

Read's performance was unacceptable. If Phillips wants to use this as a reason to get fired like he was in Buffalo, let that be his choice.

Questions please. Why is Dom Capers so much more deserving of a HC position over LeBeau? What has Capers done in the last while that even competes with operating a top 5 defense almost every year for pretty much the last 5 years and to boot running a defense that has won a SB in the last 5 years? LeBeau not wanting the gig I understand, but to say there are so many others deserving over a guy "who would never get a chance anywhere", come on now. Why is Wade more deserving?

LeBeau is not deserving of a head coaching spot. His dismal tenure in Cincinnati should answer any questions you might have. Capers at least has been to an NFC Championship with the Panthers.

LeBeau is doing exactly what he was meant to do, which is coach great defense. There is nothing wrong with that. He's no different than Bud Carson, Lindy Infante, Ray Rhodes or any number of great coordinators who simply were not cut from the right cloth to be a head coach (and you can lump Wade Phillips in that group as well).

If Bruce Read returns, I break things.

I couldn't agree more.

Brian Stewart also needs to be canned, but I doubt he will since Wade has done a decent job with the defense and would continue running the show with the incompetent in place.

In a perfect world I wish Wade could be the DC and someone like Holmgren inserted as the HC...but that isn't about to happen anytime soon.

My guess is the entire staff is back, unchanged.

I cant imagine they'd bring Bruce Read back.

Otherwise I probably agree, although blowing it up and starting over again wouldnt be a huge shock to me either, depending on what happens this weekend.

Wade wanted Mike Solari... Maybe Jerry should've listened to the head coach?

Didnt he end up in Seattle?

Their OL has been pretty pathetic this yr too.

I thought Phillips was only signed for four years. How much are we paying him?

At any rate, this is sad if true. We have to keep a substandard coach because of an economic issue that behaves like a salary cap.

Some teams this might apply, but Jones and the Cowboys are not one of them.

The new stadium is going to be a mega cash cow for Jones, not to mention all the money he is already making out of the team.

If he doesnt fire Wade, it has nothing to do with economics.

Pathetic? No. Underachieving? Absolutely. Houck simply is not getting this group to function on the same page. It has been one of the more unexpected developments on this season. The Kosier injury and issues at left guard should not have caused us to be so inconsistent and at times easily confused. Gurode still has problems with snaps, Leonard Davis decides when to play and when not to. The tackles have been acceptable.

I guess I shouldnt have out the "too" in there. I am not one that believes our OL has been pathetic, it has been inconsistent, although some of that is due to one guy being so poor.

Houck was a good hire.

You would think that. But if Mortensen is accurate, it is not out of the realm of possibility.

Remember, Jerry Jones might spend lavishly at times, but he has admitted several times it pains him to write the fat checks and he has gone into a shell when he's dropped a lot of cash and has not got the results he wanted.

It was a convenience hire. Until the results get better, I find it hard to call it "good". Solari would have been a better choice, especially if that is what the head coach wanted.

Houcks' track record is in more proven than Solari's though.

And like I said, how lousy was Seattle's OL this yr?

Not especially. Houck has bounced around for years and was successful in some places (San Diego) and not so good in others (Miami). Solari built one of the best lines in football in Kansas City and maintained it for half a decade.

And like I said, how lousy was Seattle's OL this yr?

He had five starting offensive linemen land on injured reserve this year. He has been killed by the fact there has been no continuity. Seahawks have used four players at right guard, two each at right tackle, center and left guard, three at left tackle. Finally, his patchwork group held the Jets without a sack. I'd say he's done the best he could with the hand he was dealt.

I cannot say the same for Houck. He has missed one starter (Kosier) and the line still struggles and looks like it is not communicating well. We have had one left guard out and have three Pro Bowlers for Houck to work with.

Like Garrett, he has not got great results from excellent talent.

That, I highly doubt. Even if Wade returns, there is no way Jerry will let Read return.

Eh? I guess you've never heard of Ronnie Brown of the Dolphins. How about Eric Dickerson, Ladainian Tomlinson, or Emmitt Smith?

You know what all of those great backs have in common. They all ran behind Houck's offensive lines. I think you are extremely confused.

Solari didn't maintain that line this year. Of course, I don't blame Solari for that. I blame Herm Edwards. I was dumbfounded when KC hired him away from the Jets. I figured the Jets were going to can him anyhow. He is a extremely poor coach.

The Jets?... Solari was at KC for years before Edwards ever got there.

And Houck does have a great resume, no doubt about it. But maybe he's just too old now?

I don't know... I was happy about getting Houck as well, because he's been such a good coach. But I still think you should let the head coach and not the OC pick his coaches. Same thing with Campo over Emmitt Thomas.

Anyway... I heard some of Jerry's show this morning and he said he'd be very disappointed to not even make the playoffs. So I wouldn't be sure Wade is safe anyway if he loses this weekend.
