Report: Wade Phillips 'completely safe'

I don't see any rational reason why he would be retained.

And if he is, then Jerry Jones is an imbecile.

I don't think those two things are mutually exclusive....

That said, if Wade is brought back there at least needs to be some some serious housecleaning of the coaching staff, including but not limited to Reed, Stewart and Wilson. Wouldn't mind someone with more experience brought into Sparano's old spot as an offensive Assistant coach to help Garrett. I wouldn't cry if Houck was let go either, the O-line has performed miserably, and its not all because of Proctor. There were truckloads of missed assignments in that Baltimore game.

Eh? I guess you've never heard of Ronnie Brown of the Dolphins. How about Eric Dickerson, Ladainian Tomlinson, or Emmitt Smith?

You know what all of those great backs have in common. They all ran behind Houck's offensive lines. I think you are extremely confused.

I am not confused at all. Sometimes coaches "lose it" and the game does pass them by. He was practically ready for retirement once the Dolphins let him go but we came calling. Is he the worst? No. Overall, he's been pretty average and like I said before with a very talented group of players.

Just because he was great with Dickerson and Emmitt over a decade ago does not mean he's perfect for this group right now. He had issues getting through to lazy players like Flozell Adams and Solomon Page his last tenure in Dallas.

Solari didn't maintain that line this year. Of course, I don't blame Solari for that. I blame Herm Edwards. I was dumbfounded when KC hired him away from the Jets. I figured the Jets were going to can him anyhow. He is a extremely poor coach.

If anyone is "confused" it is undoubtedly you. You don't even know where Solari coached this past year. Forgive me if I take nothing you have to say on the topic as very noteworthy.

My guess is the entire staff is back, unchanged.

That is pretty much how I see it except I just do have a good feeling that we'll get a new special teams coach.

I can't see him changing HC's unless he could get Cowher or Mike. That's the only way I see him making an HC change.

I thought Phillips was only signed for four years. How much are we paying him?

At any rate, this is sad if true. We have to keep a substandard coach because of an economic issue that behaves like a salary cap.

You have to understand the mindset though. Jerry doesn't need better coaching for his team. JERRY will make sure its ok. He will make up for whatever shortcomings Wade has. Does Wade lack fire in the belly? Jerry will fire up the troops and give some more of those bang up post game locker room talks. Does Wade allow wimpy little things like a pinky toe to keep a player out of a game? That's ok, JERRY will call them out in public and then do the media spin thing afterwards.

Until Jerry Jones stops playing football guy we are doomed.

I recall when Switzer, Gailey, and Campo were "safe" as well.

My thoughts as well.

Mort: Jerry is a man of his word. :lmao2:

Tell that to the people he fired after he said they were safe.

If they lose on Sunday and the team doesn't make the playoffs, I don't see how Jerry keeps Wade.

The Jets?... Solari was at KC for years before Edwards ever got there.

And Houck does have a great resume, no doubt about it. But maybe he's just too old now?

I don't know... I was happy about getting Houck as well, because he's been such a good coach. But I still think you should let the head coach and not the OC pick his coaches. Same thing with Campo over Emmitt Thomas.

Anyway... I heard some of Jerry's show this morning and he said he'd be very disappointed to not even make the playoffs. So I wouldn't be sure Wade is safe anyway if he loses this weekend.
Just FYI, Emmitt Thomas was under contract and could not get released.

That's true.

I saw it happen with Landry, Shula and Parcells ... the best of 'em.

It happens to everyone in any line of business. When you reach a certain age, you're not as effective as you used to be.

Eh, I disagree a little -- something to be said for continuity. And the question is, who the heck would he hire?

God, do I miss Jimmy.

There's no other special teams coach available who can improve on the current disaster we have out there?

*edit* and in case you were talking about head coaching, either Holmgren or Cowher would be a big step up.

"Is it safe?"

Apologies to those unfamiliar with this movie.

It wouldn't shock me. Jones has shown the penchant for the unbelievably stupid, as he did from 2000-2002.

If he relishes his team getting booed off the field in his new stadium the way they were the other night, then that's the right move.

I can forgive Jerra for a lot of things.
But by repeatedly stubbing his toe with this dull and witless and clueless Wade, he will find himself on day with a team on the decline and a new decade without a playoff win.
what it is he sees in Wade I will never know.
If he keeps Wade then Jerra deserves to have a new stadium with the seats only half filled.
So much promise, only to be ruined by the Clown Wade Phillips.

Continuity is important.

We've had two seasons of inept continuity from Bruce Read. There had better not be a third.

If Jerry Jones does nothing else but replace him, I think it is fine. At least the rest of the staff either has a proven track record or potential. Read was a failure with the New York Giants and he's a failure now.

This offensive line sucks because of Garrett.

Houck has operated under schemes which make it a point to establish the run consistently. Garrett has these huge lineman in pass protect mode all day long, instead of moving forward.

I guess the Titanic was safe when it left port too. Who knows what the future will bring.

Its the same system that produced the 2nd best offense in the league last year, and no where's near as much abuse of Romo.

I do agree we should run more, but we were an average rushing team at best last year too and certainly used the pass to set it up. Our most successful play on the ground was consistently draws by Barber.

Yes Procter < Kosier, but the line has underachieved badly and that's not because of the playcalling.

If Bruce Read returns, I break things.

And Brian Stewart needs to be permanently demoted, otherwise he can carpool with Read, as far away as possible.

Without a designated DC, Wade MUST keep that role full time. Otherwise bring in a proven vet who has had proven success, like Capers, or even Gregg Williams.
