Requiring Lights Out Defensive Play Is Not A Formula For Success

We're 3-1.

The 1 is from the one game that the defense didn't play lights out.

The game last week showed what happens if the defense isn't dominate.

The defense/special teams have put the ball into the end zone more than the passing game has thus far.

This is not sustainable and if these red zone issues are not fixed we are going to lose more games that we should win.
Tampa Bay and Baltimore and even Ne won a couple of titles with defense

I think we need a tad more down field shots before the endzone, these screens and short passes seem to never work in the redzone
We have too many routes where the player catches the ball while stationary. Gives defenses lots of time to converge, especially in a short field.

It all comes down to next week. That’s the true test. The offense will likely have to play from behind ant some point, and we’ve seen a sample of that in Arizona. This offense will likely need a 4 TD performance minimum.
It's always next week for the Cowboys. If we beat the 9ers it will not matter, the talk will be let's see if they could do it in the playoffs, and the goal posts move further down.

while I understand the strategy and desire to play conservatively and hide behind the defense, it is clear that this defense isn't a world beater and closing out the majority of drives with field goals isn't good enough. Hopefully MM is holding back on the QB run options and other red zone plays for this Niner game, they're going to need them.

Next week is a good test for us.
Can this defense be lights out against the 49ers? I think the big thing is not allowing YAC. The niners strive on that. I think we can win if we can al least slow down the run and eliminate most the YAC. What we really need is the STs to make anther big play. Tolbert's play pretty much changed the momentum. We're going to need some of that next week. I really want to see Purdy play from behind. To my knowledge he hasn't played from behind very much. The big question tho is can our defense get TOs next week. If we get TOs and the offense doesn't turn it over then we can win.

Our issue right now is inside red zone.

Good news we are easily getting there

Bad news is we need to score TD I stead of field goals. I get that. MM needs to figure it out. His personnel grouping, play designs aren't that good. Like last week on the play that got intercepted. Bad design. Bad execution. This week he put Deuce blocking a blitzing LB inside the 5. Why not Leupke? Or a TE on that side?

MM has to figure it out. I am giving them more time.....
I think our biggest red zone issue is the offensive line is banged up. We have a 3rd stringer in at LT. I want to see what our offense does with a healthy offensive line. Hopefully after the bye everyone gets and stays healthy.

Only this fanbase finds something to complain about after a 38-3 win. I doubt Eagles fans are complaining about 4-0 even though they haven't really been that impressive.
If they don't complain about the eagles it's probably because they're too busy coming here to complain about the Cowboys. :muttley:

This is my major concern as well.

If the defense has an off day (see Arizona) can the offense pick up the slack?

Next week will make all things clear if we can beat the 49ers in their stadium we will have made progress.

If all our demons rear their ugly heads next week and the defense can't stop the run while the offense continues to struggle in the red zone we will know exactly where we are in the NFL picture.

Blowing bad teams out and collecting stats is great but when push comes to shove this 49ers team is the one we are going to have to face eventually to do anything substantial in the postseason.

If we can't compete because we have not rectified our problems we will end up no better or worse than we have the last few years.
Excellent points.

SF does not turn the ball over and give the other team free points.

Will be a good test to see exactly how good we really are.

We will need the defense to bring it if we want to win against SF. They score 30 every week. We need that under 24 to have a good chance.

Everyone knows what you mean by "witch".

If you don't want to post just don't post, no point in getting a benching.
Lol. And everyone knows what this thread is actually about. You’re just not allowed to post it anymore. Get a life man. Trolling a message board for a living when you’re not even allowed to do it anymore must be exhausting. Cowboys hand the pats the worst loss in belicheks career and here you are crying about the offense?

They didn’t need to score today. I don’t know if you saw, I know the eagles game was on at the beginning but Dak and the O had their way with the pats D in the first quarter. Then they dialed it back. No need to open the playbook up in a blowout.

OP is 100% correct, the defense is 3-0 and the offense is 0-1 this season. This offense just looks so lost when they aren’t running the ball. Dak looks mentally confused and can’t see the field and his accuracy is just foul. He needs to loosen up, it’s like he’s be scared by leading the league in picks last season.
Found one of the OPs burner accounts

We put up a 40 burger on Philly's D last year, 2nd game
Pretty sure we don't put up 40 without the 4 turnovers our defense got us. Pretty sure we would have lost without the 20 points off turnovers and the 7 points we gifted them with a pick 6. Pretty sure.

Pretty sure Dak hit TY Hilton on a 3rd and 30 to extend a drive and win the game.

Pretty sure
