Still trying to figure this out.
First of all it was a stupid move to be smoking in public. Whether he was smoking or with people that were. But..
Why does the staff have him listed as 3rd or 4th TE? Last preseason he ran with the 1s to evaluate him. He made some really good plays but his assignments and blocking not up to snuff.
His injury worked to his and the staffs advantage, they were able to keep him for the year to work on his craft.
This season they haven’t ran him with the 1s (no matter the starting QB) to evaluate him again.
So... running scenarios.
All NFL players are random tested between April and August for street drug. Maybe he passed and knew he could smoke until next year as long as HE DONT GET BUSTED DOING STREET DRUGS. Bet now the NFL has contacted him for another drug test.
1 - He already failed and is in the NFL program for drugs. You have to fail 3 tests before you actually get suspended for 4 games. This could really pee off the staff and cause them to drop him on the depth chart.
2 - ? Any ideas? Is this the final straw and him getting busted is more than the organization is willing to put up with. There is a reason he isn’t running agiants other teams 1s. You have to evaluate this kid again.
Maybe I am over thinking this. But the only difference between last year and this year is then drafting Schultz. Why evaluate and put him above Rico?
schultz was drafted for next year where swaim is fa.
at this point, it looks like the fo always recognized rico receiver, but kicked his *** so he improved his blocking to increase his value to the team.
he was not running with the 1's because they already know he is a big-time receiver and wanted him to work on blocking in preseason without putting dak at risk.
they need at least 3 te's in their offense and they may not want to pay swaim next year
jarwin looks weak for his size and 'falls' down when it comes to making plays in tough coverage.
rico has put his future at risk because jones now worry about whether he can be relied on to not screw up again
