Still trying to figure this out.

First of all it was a stupid move to be smoking in public. Whether he was smoking or with people that were. But..

Why does the staff have him listed as 3rd or 4th TE? Last preseason he ran with the 1s to evaluate him. He made some really good plays but his assignments and blocking not up to snuff.

His injury worked to his and the staffs advantage, they were able to keep him for the year to work on his craft.

This season they haven’t ran him with the 1s (no matter the starting QB) to evaluate him again.

So... running scenarios.

All NFL players are random tested between April and August for street drug. Maybe he passed and knew he could smoke until next year as long as HE DONT GET BUSTED DOING STREET DRUGS. Bet now the NFL has contacted him for another drug test.

1 - He already failed and is in the NFL program for drugs. You have to fail 3 tests before you actually get suspended for 4 games. This could really pee off the staff and cause them to drop him on the depth chart.

2 - ? Any ideas? Is this the final straw and him getting busted is more than the organization is willing to put up with. There is a reason he isn’t running agiants other teams 1s. You have to evaluate this kid again.

Maybe I am over thinking this. But the only difference between last year and this year is then drafting Schultz. Why evaluate and put him above Rico?

schultz was drafted for next year where swaim is fa.
at this point, it looks like the fo always recognized rico receiver, but kicked his *** so he improved his blocking to increase his value to the team.
he was not running with the 1's because they already know he is a big-time receiver and wanted him to work on blocking in preseason without putting dak at risk.
they need at least 3 te's in their offense and they may not want to pay swaim next year
jarwin looks weak for his size and 'falls' down when it comes to making plays in tough coverage.
rico has put his future at risk because jones now worry about whether he can be relied on to not screw up again

Rico is/was the most overrated Cowboy I’ve ever seen in my 54 years of fandom. He was 4th string at best, yet watching these boards, the Canton bust was being dusted off before he even played in a real NFL game. Looking like a stud in preseason (which was occasional) doesn’t make you a stud.
Right, they keep saying none of the other TEs have done anything and that's why Rico is better....... Rico hasn't done nothing, Shultz is a rookie and Jarwin is going into his second year. Rico is going into his 4th year and can't even make the 53 man roster in his time so far.

I think it’s rico’s 3rd year.

I disagree with him about his views on our team, but I feel this is necessary given the circumstances:

In all seriousness, why the heck is he smoking in a car. He isn’t a teenage kid, he is a grown adult who should have his own house or apartment. Just smoke at home and this doesn’t happen.

Idiot.

I was thinking the same thing. You couldn't have waited until you got home?

Big time risk. Now it looks like he makes the 53 despite the arrest. 2oz of weed there is trouble if he is guilty. NFL will not only test him but will now be able to suspend. Knowing goodell he will throw the book at him. This won’t happen until after the actual judicial system has run its course. With the lawyers that JJ will provide he will get minimum but if he pleas guilty to anything then goodell will come down with at least 2 games, likely happening during the season.
