And he's eligible to play next week I believe.

Rico said he's ready to go on his instagram. Wonder if his concussion is mysteriously better now.
He can't play the first 8 weeks.

Next week is #7.

I hope this happens. This guy could totally change the dynamic of this offense IMO.

While I want to see what Rico can do, I believe fans often get a false impression from training camp/preseason. Often, players who stand out against backups struggle against starters and schemes prepared to exploit their weaknesses.

Some seem to think Gathers can just step in and bring something more to the table than Witten and that's a very skewed perspective of the game.

Put him on the field already... We need mismatches to help things run smoother.

I agree that fan's expectations are too high at this point for Rico, but if he can get on the field and be an average blocker, then really work on a handful of useful routes and execute them, say 10 routes run a game with 2-3 targets?

If he can create some worries for the other teams LBs/Safeties by getting some targets then he at least draws some attention as a viable option when he's on the field. I'm no OC, but some limited packages like this I would think could be doable for him at this point.

Yeah. But the silence on his medical condition has been deafening. This is the weirdest concussion protocol I’ve ever seen for a guy that didn’t appear to be hit that hard when it apparently occurred. Did I miss the in depth explanation of why he missed so much time and had so few updates on his condition? I find this situation completely bizarre. But glad he’s healthy enough to get back cuz he looks like a playmaker.
Fake News.

Considering he apparently had one of the worst concussions in recent football history, if the staff is to be believed, it's probably better to take things slow.

I just remember Broaddus mentioning head/neck/jaw issues after the concussion injury. It's the weirdest thing.

My thoughts exactly.
I doubt he's going to come in and start dominating.

It'll be an adjustment, like it is with any player. The good thing about a guy like Gathers, though, is the adjustments will be mostly mental. We should be able to use him in a very limited basis where we pretty much just take advantage of the physical mismatch he represents as we work him in.

Agree the Witten stuff is nonsense. He's at the end of his career, but he's playing pretty much just like he always has. People forget we relied on him fairly extensively earlier in the season. He's missed a few blocks, but again, our issues are not with the offense.

Well I would. like to see Rico in real games. it is time. This may not be popular, but it is time to start a transition from the greatest TE ever to his heir apparent. So we need to see if Rico can show he can be that player, or isa they need to dip into another draft pick in 2018.

At least to give the LB's and safetys another thing to worry about due to his size/strength, and RAC ability....

There will be teams who won't have the personnel to cover him as a 4-5th option without diverting personnel from guy's like Witten and Dez. Even if he's only used in spot duty, he's so physical, they'll have to respect him being in there. If we can justify activating him, that is.

This defense is so frustrating this season. We knew the personnel weren't good. But veteran LBs can't cover or tackle, and we can't get our run fits right. Injuries at key spots. The whole 9 yards. What happened to team tackling, takeaways, or bending but not breaking?

Agree. Just what I was thinking. You can't ignore that size and ability. Especially if he shows any of the form he did in the pre season
