I agree that fan's expectations are too high at this point for Rico, but if he can get on the field and be an average blocker, then really work on a handful of useful routes and execute them, say 10 routes run a game with 2-3 targets?
If he can create some worries for the other teams LBs/Safeties by getting some targets then he at least draws some attention as a viable option when he's on the field. I'm no OC, but some limited packages like this I would think could be doable for him at this point.

This defense is so frustrating this season. We knew the personnel weren't good. But veteran LBs can't cover or tackle, and we can't get our run fits right. Injuries at key spots. The whole 9 yards. What happened to team tackling, takeaways, or bending but not breaking?
I can say I've been a little bit disappointed with Hanna and Swaim this season, primarily because I expected their blocking to be better than it has been. I don't expect any of the TEs other than Witten to be targeted often, except on plays like the one to Hanna where the defense just forgot about him ... but who knows, Rico looked like a legitimate target in the preseason so maybe the offense would find a place for him — although we seem to be pretty rigid in our scheme.
He missed plenty of blocking assignments in preseason and being away from practice for two month's isn't a positive, he's still very raw....
As bad as we want to win, the Cowboys will never give Rico Witten's playing time. They may convince Witten to retire in the offseason or take a part-time role, but they just aren't going to do that to their hall of famer in the midst of this season....won't happen.Well I would. like to see Rico in real games. it is time. This may not be popular, but it is time to start a transition from the greatest TE ever to his heir apparent. So we need to see if Rico can show he can be that player, or isa they need to dip into another draft pick in 2018.

I hope this happens. This guy could totally change the dynamic of this offense IMO.
My best thoughts are that Dallas didn't want to risk losing him trying to get him to the practice squad.Yeah. But the silence on his medical condition has been deafening. This is the weirdest concussion protocol I’ve ever seen for a guy that didn’t appear to be hit that hard when it apparently occurred. Did I miss the in depth explanation of why he missed so much time and had so few updates on his condition? I find this situation completely bizarre. But glad he’s healthy enough to get back cuz he looks like a playmaker.

Have you seen out tight ends block this year?
Perhaps I don’t. Where would u recommend to get more info on it?It appears you don't understand TBI or mTBI well enough. His course is consistent with either so I see no mystery here.

Hanna, Swain and Witten are far superior in blocking to a basketball player learning to play professional football
Stop it.Why the rush to get him back?
He would just molder on the bench since we have to have Witten on the field every down.
