You thought Dak could overcome us getting destroyed in the trenches on BOTH sides of the ball?

You should learn more about football then.
Ok football guru , calm down Madden wannabe. If you think Dak has been the answer for us in the post season , you're the one that needs to stop your delusional thinking. Come back to reality.

One and done in playoffs last year.

Can't beat good team when it counts.
Biggest franchise in ALL sports and can't advance in playoffs.

Because of lousy ownership/mgmt

Jerry has little to do once the ball is kicked off, You are right 12-5 last season 1 and done. Organization got the talent to get to 12-5 the rest is on players and coaches. I expect this team to get talent in here but once they do, at some point the players and coaches must take the responsibility

We were all DEAD WRONG about Cooper Rush. He’s been a fantastic backup.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Brett Maher. He’s been a fantastic kicker.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Noah Brown. He’s been rock solid filling in for Gallup/Washington.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Tyler Smith playing LT as a rookie. Remember how badly we wanted a vet replacement for Tyron Smith before Week 1? We got Jason Peters but he’s been nothing more than OG depth so far. Tyler has held his own.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Terence Steele at RT. This one maybe goes back a year.

The moral of the story: we’re 6-2 despite Dak missing 5 games and other adverse circumstances. That’s a HUGE credit to the front office and coaching staff......

So maybe they’re not “SO STUPID” for not acquiring more help today?

Maybe, just maybe, they know better than us fans do? And deserve some benefit of the doubt?

Crazy, I know.

Rams are falling apart due to lack of draft capitol left and cap ramifications. They could be irrelevant again by next year. Their time has come and gone.

Cowboys may not win it all this year but they should have a better team next year. The Cowboys are doing things right for the first time in a while with McClay, MM and DQ, making this team better.
While I agree for the most part. Doing things the right way is building thru the draft, however building SOLELY thru the draft is incorrect. Look at teams like Baltimore. Constantly in the playoffs, always have a solid draft but they also supplement the draft with FA. This team only uses the draft. That is my complaint.

True enough about the Rams. Their Modus Operandi has been to go all in every 4-5 years. They manipulate and push the cap to its breaking point through FA and trades as well as decent drafting. They field a team ready to compete in the SB and win or lose they have to dismantle and do it all over again.

I personally don’t like that drastic approach but I can’t argue with their results. Part of it makes sense because the days of dynasties are over. It’s win today and worry about the consequences tomorrow
I agree. But if we’re being honest. Anyone on this forum would do what the rams have done to be in the SB again. Win or lose. The rams have retooled and rebuilt twice in the span of 5 years and have been to 2 superbowls winning 1.

I don’t mean any disrespect to your point of view, it’s just not objective. We traded for Hankins. People pretend like that didn’t happen, or it’s not enough, and of course it might not be.

People were saying “we did nothing to prepare for Tyron’s inevitable injury and loss of playing time” earlier this year. We drafted a player at Tyron’s position with the express purpose of eventually kicking him outside to left tackle at some point in his career. It just happened a little earlier than some expected. While it’s not exactly the same as a trade, it is analogous.

We traded for Hankins. While it may not be enough, it was a trade that made sense in terms of compensation. It’s a cheap rental for what amounts to a pick swap. It has upside in terms of if he balls out and improves his street value, we might even net a comp pick for him when he leaves.

If Cooks was our FA target I’m GLAD we didn’t give up anything and that one fell through. I’d rather roll with what we have than add Cooks.

What we were shopping for either wasn’t available in free agency, or the cost was too great. Long term, no deal is a better deal than over paying on a bad deal.

The OP makes some good points, that don't take away that fans are right some percent of the time too, and current management has not given us a lot of reasons to trust them since the 90's. Trade deadline is more a matter of philosophy than being right or wrong, nobody can predict if any of the moves made by other teams are going to pan out, as a matter of fact, you can almost predict most of them are going to fail, by pure percentages.

Having said that, you can not blame fans for wanting their team to be agressive and puting all the chips in, even though the Cowboys draft well, plenty of draft picks are going to bust (i.e. Trysten Hill) so... why not trade some picks for a proven player? Especially this year with the way the D is playing and the downfall of some of the usual contenders.

Last thing, football is supposed to be fun, and ranting and going over the top is what fans do, if we don't vent in the zone, where will we vent? At work? With the wife? Not a good idea.

They’ve been doing things completely differently for about the last 10 years. The first 15 years saw a team that couldn’t draft worth a crap and almost always went big in free agency and trades. There were plenty of big trades/ FA pickups back then. Galloway. Roy Williams. Chris Warren. Hamlin. Carr. Davis. Etc.

That way didn’t work. At all.

The way the front office works now is completely different than then. Thankfully. They have learned a lot and are much better than they used to be. Now, they pretty consistently have good rosters, the salary cap is in pretty good shape most years, and their pro personnel department does a good job finding UDFA’s, street FA’s, and RFA’s that don’t put the cap in a bind if they don’t work out.

I like almost everything about how they build team’s these days, whereas I liked little about the way they put together the 1996-2011 teams.

I do wish they would augment their excellent drafting with one or two big free agents, but that is about all that I’d do differently about building the roster. They do it very well and it is no secret. Most who doubt the Cowboys ability to win a championship have issues with team culture and if Jerry is meddling.

They build rosters well.

Like I said, I’d like to see them a little more involved in the upper end of FA, and Lord, I wish Jerry would just stop talking to the media and drop his dumb radio time… but personnel wise, it is clear what their plan is and it produces a talented roster without a salary cap in shambles.

And really, this thread and my post is regarding the roster they put together since they changed their ways about 10 years ago.

Before then, I think the fans actually did have better ideas than the team, lol.
Well said.

The Cowboys under Will McClay’s scouting and preparation have become one of the best at drafting NFL talent. And our current coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for developing young players. I give some credit to Jerry for keeping McClay in the organization and letting his influence grow.

But I think a ton of Cowboys fans just get tired of the all talk, talk, talk, talk from Jerry and son without much playoff success to show for it. Jerry could sell sand in the desert but he never seems to grasp that having multiple radio shows and tv appearances in a week does not help the team- at all.

And I’m not knocking the no trade situation at the deadline. We don’t know what the asking price was for players we don’t acquire. Sometimes no trade is better than a bad trade. If JJ had kept his mouth shut, most of this fan frustration wouldn’t even have registered. Jerry’s trade teasers this last several days made many fans falsely excited.

I think a lot of the fan angst is really more frustration about the poor playoff performance of the last 26 years. Talk is so cheap in sports. Salesmanship can sell tickets and merchandise. But it can’t buy playoff wins.

Where in my post did I say trade? I’m talking about building only thru the draft. You need to supplement the draft with FA. The perennial contenders all do. Dallas is not a perennial contender. See the correlation?

look at the rams. They are always aggressive and yeah they probably have to rebuild now, but they have rebuilt twice in 5 years and been to 2 superbowls lol. That’s all I am saying.

Fans ripped the Cowboys for "botching" the Randy Gregory deal and every ensuing move thereafter at DE. They were DEAD WRONG on all.

Pretty sure that was the hangup to a Cooks deal, getting him to renegotiate before a trade. Just couldn't get it done.

Gregory has been good for Denver, so not sure that is wrong. They were 1/3 on big decisions, although the Randy situation was a bit peculiar. Gregory would of been an upgrade over Armstrong/Fowler. Amari Cooper is still clearly the best wr of the bunch and he made the other receivers job's easier, because he was not the big body type, more the separation and taking double teams. They hit a home run on getting Collins right, so props to them for that. Until we get past the divisional round, fans have every right to be irritated with the front office. The fact that Jerry still talks highly of Zeke, when you go by every running metric and receiving metric says average or below, does make you question. It's clear Pollard should be the number 1 back, oh no he can't block as well.

As for not making a trade, there is one real team in the NFC at the moment and that's the Eagles? When has the NFL been this wide open? I can't remember the last time honestly. On their behalf I still don't think they would of been competitive with the Bills or Chiefs without a good element of luck. To me it's clear wr will be an issue when we play good cbs and have to score more then 20 points.

We have NO idea what the asking prices were for any of the players you would’ve wanted.

Which difference-making DT and CB were even available for trade? What would those teams have wanted in return?

As for WR, there are other teams with MUCH greater needs at WR (like the Giants and Packers)... and they didn’t trade for one either. You know why? Because the asking price was too high for them, just like it was for us.

If we traded a 1st and 2nd for Brandin Cooks, this board would’ve melted down because we gave up too much.

Nav, you’ve been one of those that have accuse Dak critics of wanting to see him fail. I, as one of those critics, is wanting Dak to get a legit #1 receiver so he CAN BE SUCCESSFUL in the post season…..how’s that tired accusation of yours square with this?

We’ve tried staying within the cap and now it’s an extraordinarily smart time to go all in just to merely keep up with the teams that are equal or above us

For the life of me, I don’t know what’s so hard to grasp about seizing the moment…..with Dak, Zeke, Diggs, Parsons, and Martin all here and healthy we have to go for the jugular….next season it could all be different.

that’s all I’m saying…but the FO sees it differently and now ask yourself, “ how’s their track record been?” They must think they know more than the GMs of the Chiefs,Eagles, Bills and Dolphins that have seen their teams make huge strides in this league……

don’t let beating the Lions and Bears make you think we are as good as the top 3 teams in the NFL…..but we could have closed the gap with some additions other than Hankerson

1) Reports are we talked to the Texans about Cooks. If we gave up a 1st and 2nd for Cooks (for example), would you have been cool with that? That’s probably way more than it would’ve taken, but my point is the price DOES matter. I would’ve been very excited to land Cooks, but an overpay is an overpay.

2) Honestly, is Brandin Cooks even THAT good? Are we sure he’s a “true number 1 WR”? We don’t know if he will be another Amari Cooper or a Roy Williams for us.

3) You know damn well some of your fellow anti-Dakkers want Dak to fail. Don’t even pretend otherwise. Direct quote from someone here: “I will never support Dak as the Cowboys QB no matter what.” Another prominent anti-Dakker once said Dak could win the Super Bowl and he’d STILL dislike him and want him gone. Just because it doesn’t apply to you doesn’t mean those dirtbags don’t exist.

4) Hankins, not Hankerson.

It is very hilarious. I have been following all sports for 50 years. Since when is the NFL trading deadline much of a thing? Yeah sure it has always existed and a few teams make a trade, but people are now suddenly treating football like it is baseball or basketball? In those sports there are many trades every year. Fans discuss it, fans get excited, hold out hope, the press covers it, etc. But it's barely a thing in football. Name 3 deadline day trades the Cowboys have made in their history? I bet no one can.
Yet suddenly all these fans feel entitled to get new players. Do it or I shall act enraged!!
Give me a break
Quit getting in the way of people's squushy little emotions!!!!

If you are pulling 12 wins in a season and tank in post season that is on coaches and players, same for any team. No doubt Cowboys failed but sorry you don't win 12 games and lack talent. I have blamed Jerry for poor trades in the past like Roy Williams and 2 1st rd picks but when I see a team who can put up 12 wins and fails in playoffs I'm not blaming jerry because they failed to play up to their ability

Not necessarily true. If the GM fails to put the players in place to, say, stop the run, then it's on the GM. SF playoff game, for instance. Those "Rushmen" gave it up big time in that loss.

By the same token had offense done a better job they went 5 of 14 on 3rd down which in turn would have made TOP less for 49er keeping defense a bit more fresh. Cowboys gave up 23 points in the game and offense did little to help out. Ultimately every team will have strength and weakness within a season that coaches must overcome those weakness.
