Rivera Debate Begins Anew

He may be a nice guy and a good coach but bringing him here as DC is like putting a square peg into a round hole. It just doesn't fit. If he is brought in as DC, one of two things will happen...

1. Jerry will force the 3-4 on him. Rivera has no experience coaching the 3-4, much like Zimmer did not. And as much as we are all loate to admit it, Zimmer is not an idiot, he was a very good 4-3 coach but could not adapt to the
3-4 system. Why does everyone assume Rivera will be different?

2. We will scrap the 3-4 and return to the 4-3. I hate this move for two reasons. First, we will have blown two years worth of personnel moves trying for nothing. Second, it forces Ware to move positions. I'm not in favor of any coaching change that requires our only pressure player to switch positions.

I guess its easy to trash Rivera for the game...it was a clunker of a game plan and looked extremely Mike Zimmer-esque

but Lovie Smith deserves blame too...its his defensive system and they made no adjustments whatsoever as this game wore on

Ron Turner didnt coach a great game either, but then again when you are handicapped as bad as he is by having to play Grossman at QB, you cant really blame him...Grossman was putrid today

David

Don't think Jerry will force the 3-4 on him. What personnel moves have we made that would not allow us to easily switch back to the 4-3. These guys are football players.

you mean the position that Ware played FOR 4 YEARS in college? C'mon. The 3-4 was Bill. That was his thing. As much as he'd like you to think we've drafted all 3-4 personnel, we haven't. We can easily make the switch back.

Playing 4-3 end in the Sun Belt and playing 4-3 end in the NFL are just slightly different.

being on the field just about all game and only allowing 22 points to a future HOF QB is nothing to be ashamed of. I still want Rivera!!!

Hopefully, Jerry's interviewing him in the locker room.

Yeah, I'll still take him. Just like I'd take Manning if he threw four picks.

How can you blame the defense when the offense was horrible, kept the defense on the field with only 3 first downs in the first half and taking 25 minutes to get their 4th?...

And after all of that holding Manning to just 22 points?...

That's friggin ludicrous...

Ware will be fine in any system or scheme because he is an elite talent

but I think he'd be totally dominant as a 4-3 RDE...

I don't think the final decision on what D we run next has been made yet. We need a real DC and Rivera is exactly that.

Fergi is a 3-4 NT, not a true 4-3 DT and who else plays DT with him? Spears? Stanley? You also have to move WAre. You have to move Akin back to outside backer. Canty has never played a 4-3.

The Bears held the colts to 1 TD in 6 redzone attempts.

JJ better be writing out Rivera's contract right now.

You beat me to it.

How can that be ignored?

Ferguson has spent alot of his career as a 4-3 DT and actually said he prefers it over NT in the 3-4

Spears could move inside...Ratliff can defintiely play DT...Ware would dominate as a 4-3 RDE....

Canty and James are probably the only two players who might be lost in a 4-3...all the other could play the scheme fine

I hope JJ is on the sideline right now handing him a tissue and a contract

they did a pretty good job tonight considering their offense did little to nothing, except turn the ball over.....

5 turnovers and a TD given up by the Bears offense. The defense did hold the Colts to 3 FGs and a missed FG. The Bears defense also forced 3 turnovers of their own. Considering that the defense was on the field an awful lot, the did a decent job.

My biggest issue with the Bears defense was how poor they were against the run......

This is ridiculous...

The guy holds Manning to 22 points even after his team has been on the field entirely too long because the offense is horrible...

And you don't want him here because of the scheme?...

Please, this isn't a complete overhaul we're talking about...

We just spent four years trying something...for nothing. We can easily go back to the 4-3, indeed, our current personnel is still more 4-3 like than 3-4 like.

I hate being difficult but sometime I just have too........Just say YES to Rivera. ;)

Urlacher & Vasher had really good games. The rest were OK.

The indictment is on the coaching staff - how, OH HOW, do you NOT attack Manning and the backfield? That was ********.

Made me SERIOUSLY question the idea of getting Rivera in here.
