Rivera Debate Begins Anew

Ferguson has spent alot of his career as a 4-3 DT and actually said he prefers it over NT in the 3-4

Spears could move inside...Ratliff can defintiely play DT...Ware would dominate as a 4-3 RDE....

Canty and James are probably the only two players who might be lost in a 4-3...all the other could play the scheme fine

David

all predicated on wishful thinking, c'mon now

and guys, we should be using both schemes anyway, hire Rivera jerruh! plus Bowels and Pasqueloni are 3-4 guys

Again, the 3-4 is was Parcells wanted. He ran it and did a poor job of executing. To think we only have 3-4 personnel and that we should continue running it is idiotic.

they did a pretty good job tonight considering their offense did little to nothing, except turn the ball over.....

5 turnovers and a TD given up by the Bears offense. The defense did hold the Colts to 3 FGs and a missed FG. The Bears defense also forced 3 turnovers of their own. Considering that the defense was on the field an awful lot, the did a decent job.

My biggest issue with the Bears defense was how poor they were against the run......

I agree, the Bears Defense did a very good job considering how much time they were on the field. They held the Colts inside the 10 on a number of occasions limiting them to FGs. If not for Butterfingers Grossman they would have had a very good chance of winning this game.

Being on the field for 38 minutes will make any defense look worse then they are.

It's hard to complete anything deep on that tampa two defense, it's kinda impressive.

The Bears held the colts to 1 TD in 6 redzone attempts.

JJ better be writing out Rivera's contract right now.

That's impressive no doubt, but for someone who supposedly puts a premium on getting to the QB, they sure were unimpressive in that area tonight.

I dont think anyone knows anymore about Rivera after tonight than they did before the game...I mean was this HIS defensive style or Lovie's? who decided to play so passively? who refused to make any adjustments?

everyone says the rain made the score more respectable and avoided the blowout for the Colts, but I think a clean field and good weather would have helped the BEARS more than the Colts, because the Bears front 7 speed was really negated by that slop fest of a field

Actually they put a premium on stripping the football. They did a great job of that.

This is ridiculous...

The guy holds Manning to 22 points even after his team has been on the field entirely too long because the offense is horrible...
It might have helped if they would have quit letting Indy run the ball down their throats and that started way before they got tired.

You are 100% right. Thats what the Bears pride themselves on. They forced enough turnovers to win.

I agree with this a lot. I've tried to stay out of the coaching threads, but I'm not so sure I have ever thought Rivera was all that amazing. I think he might be better than Zimmer was, but I prefer the idea of Singletary, and always have, based only on his dynamic personality. I do think that personality goes a long way in coaching.

He may be a nice guy and a good coach but bringing him here as DC is like putting a square peg into a round hole. It just doesn't fit. If he is brought in as DC, one of two things will happen...

1. Jerry will force the 3-4 on him. Rivera has no experience coaching the 3-4, much like Zimmer did not. And as much as we are all loate to admit it, Zimmer is not an idiot, he was a very good 4-3 coach but could not adapt to the
3-4 system. Why does everyone assume Rivera will be different?

2. We will scrap the 3-4 and return to the 4-3. I hate this move for two reasons. First, we will have blown two years worth of personnel moves trying for nothing. Second, it forces Ware to move positions. I'm not in favor of any coaching change that requires our only pressure player to switch positions.

I"m in favor of anything that gets the only decent pass rusher we have rushing the QB on every pass play....period.

I only remember one "strip..."

The one by Tillman I think on the TE Fletcher.

Indy had 3 Turnovers... Peyton's INT, and the handoff to Addai on the draw that was dropped. Am I missing one?

I think we can play either the 34 or the 43 defense well this coming season.

The only player who really concerns me in the front 7 is B James. He just seemed to regress and get confused.

On the other hand, I think Spears, for example, could play much better in the 43 than the 34.

I'm with you Teague. I don't get the hype with Rivera.

I thought the Bears blitzed quite a bit, didn't look that passive and the field wasn't a slop fest at all.
