Rivera Debate Begins Anew

Being on the field for 38 minutes will make any defense look worse then they are.

and that is skewed b/c the bears had the ball a lot towards the end when it didnt really matter

My biggest issue with the Bears defense was how poor they were against the run......

Well, to be fair, they haven't been the same since they lost Tommie Harris.

You'd have to expect them to struggle somewhere when you lose a player like him.

I mean was this HIS defensive style or Lovie's? who decided to play so passively? who refused to make any adjustments

What are you talking about?...

They held them to 2 FG's in the 2nd half and only 160 yards of offense after they gained 270 in the first half...

No adjustments?...

You gotta be kidding me...

This wasn't on Rivera and the defense...

He adjusted but Rex was a total flop...

Yeah we did learn something...

Rivera held a very good defense to 22 points because it took their offense 25 minutes between their 3rd and 4th first down...

i agree harris was a big loss...but still, to give up about 200 yds rushing in the SB? that was pathetic.

34 always gives them fits

43 not so much

Sorry I don't buy that as a blanket statement. The 3-4 gives them fits if you blitz and disguise it decently well. When you only rush 4 on them all night(like Chicago), I don't care what scheme you run, you're not going to harass Manning. And it's well documented that to beat Manning you have to harass him.

You dont have to buy it but its a well known fact. 34 gives them trouble for some reason

we didnt disguise anything and we barely blitzed

I'm with you Teague. I don't get the hype with Rivera.

It's kind of hard to get a real feel for Rivera, because that defense is basically Lovie Smith's. That said, I have no problem with him becoming our DC, because I think he should've picked up enough from playing for Buddy and now coaching with Lovie to be better than Zimmer.

Don't forget coaching under Jim Johnson with Philly. He will understand pressure.

In the Colts game, we diguised blitzes more than any other game. Ware and the other OLB were consistently showing blitz only to drop back in coverage. The corners were getting in on it too. It was like watching a completely different defense in that game.

Didn't seem to give them trouble two weeks ago

IMO, our blitzing didn't look vastly different than what we were doing all season

I didnt see it that way, the players produced better than usual, but the looks were basically the same most of the time even the coaches said it wasnt anything different

Yeah, I think he's got a nice pedigree, but I haven't seen any of "his defense" to be excited about it.

And personally if we ran the style of defense that Chicago runs, I'd be pretty disappointed. People say that the Tampa 2 isn't a Rivera defense, but shouldn't that just mean he gets no credit for success in Chicago?

I didnt say they could never beat a 34

But the Pats have owned them for years until now

It was more than evident tonight that they missed him, that's why we need a #2 to challenge Fergy...
