If Bledsoe can keep on keeping on, I say resign him. When you know what you have, theres no reason to change when you like what you have. No guarentees Brees wont be the one traded and no guarentees Rivers wont turn in to a David Carr. I think Bledsoe can keep on going for another 3 years. That will give us time to look for a real QB prospect and figure out how to get him.

Don't we have him signed for 2 years already ?

Adam, didn't Bledsoe have a bunch of incentives that can make his contract bigger ? It seems if he keeps up this pace he may hit some incentives. What is the salary cap situation if he hits those incentives ?

What's it going to be then, eh?

San Diego can conceiveably keep Brees and Rivers next year.

If they franchise Brees again, that's $15 million against the salary cap for 2006. The biggest year of Rivers' contract is 2006, then it drops.

The Chargers covered their bases here.

I personally don't see a guy in Rivers who has shown more at the NFL level than Drew Henson. It feels a little bit like a "grass is always greener at the bottom of the other team's roster" kind of approach to building a team. There's no evidence that Rivers is not a bust. Why not just use the draft pick and draft the QB you want?

and I think trading for him would be awful because he would require at least a 1st. I would be more in favor of trading the house in 2007 or 2008 when Brian Brohm, the Louisville QB, enters the draft.

(even though I like the QB bus-driver approach.)

I like what you're saying, I'm not high on Rivers either(can't throw deep and slow as molasses). I think drafting a qb is a good idea, but I don't want to wait until Brohm comes out in 2007, I'd rather take Jacobs in the late first or early second. By the time Bledsoe's contract is up, Jacobs will be ready to start, not just beginning his career like Brohm would be. And who knows where Brohm will be in 2-3 years development wise.

Not happening - the future at QB is Romo - JMO

He won't beat Bledsoe out next year anyway and I really see no point to throwing $ and Picks at Rivers.

One of the scouts I like says that Rivers doesn't have a NFL arm. He likened him to Matt Jones without the speed. Weak arm and slow as molasses and said that his receiver Jerricho Cotchery made Rivers.

Unless he's there in the late rounds we won't look at him. The focus is on character. Too many question marks given his suspension, etc.

I agree, but I would target Jacobs instead cause he wont cost as much as Leinhart and may have more upside anyway and maybe McNeal too in the second might be an option.

2006 draft is THE ideal time to draft a young QB. We can sit him for 1 year while Drew still plays, and then start him in 2007, or if Drew is still playing good in 2007, sit him a 2nd year, and he will be ready by the 2nd or 3rd in that situation.

If we put it off once freakin again, were going to end up with a huge void at QB just like when Troy left and we didnt have anyone in line for the spot. Henson to me isnt even a consideration at starter, he's barely on the team.

We could keep Henson as the 3rd guy and give him another year or two to make sure he isnt something special. But i think having Henson on the team in no way disqualifies us from drafting a qb in the first round next year.

IF Omar Jacobs falls to us, or anywhere within a tradeable range, we gotta get him. Not give up a lot, but if hes still there a few picks before us and that team doesnt want a QB, we should go up to get him.

This draft class is going to have several very good 1st-2nd round qb's coming out, and it would be devastating to the cowboys to not get one.

Serious character issues?

Julius Jones was suspended for the 2002 season for not meeting Notre Dame's academic requirements. That's his only incident. His only way to resolve his suspension was hard work on his academics or he would continue to be suspended.

Vick was suspended for the 2004 season after pleading guilty to reckless driving and no contest to marijuana possession after he was clocked at 86 mph in a 55 mph zone. He was fined $300 and his driver's license was suspended for 60 days for reckless driving. As part of a plea agreement, he was placed in a first offender program on the marijuana charge.

Previously, he was convicted on three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after he and two teammates gave alcohol to 3 girls between the ages of 14 and 15 years old and getting them to strip for him and the other players. He was acquitted of statutory rape with one girl but was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $2,250 for the other charges. He was suspended 3 games.

Vick's only way of resolving his suspension was to serve his jail time, pay his fine, wait three games, serve more jail time, pay another fine, complete a drug education program, suspend his license, promise to stop committing more crimes, follow through on his promise to stop committing crimes, and wait a year.

Yes, lets not forget Julius had very serious character issues.

SD will trade Rivers. With Brees, they know what they have ... as long as he continues to play at a top level this year. Brees will stay.

Rivers will go to the highest bidder. Hopefully, it's not us.

How is SD going to handle the cap hit for Rivers? He's got a pretty hefty signing bonus.

If they believe Rivers is performing well in camp and will do well, it's more likely that they part ways with Brees. They may try do a sign and trade or have him work out a contract with another team then trade him. No way they let him go without getting compensation unless they are stupid. But, this will drop his trade value abit.

I am all for going after Brees. I think he'll be better for the team than Bledsoe long term.

I want Brees even less than I want Rivers. I stilldont trust Brees to not blow the game with a pick or something else. I've seen a lot of his games over the years living in CA, and the guy was horrible the past years. one year isnt going to make me get over it.

I think Romo can be a good NFL QB. Maybe not a great one but Bledsoe has atleast 3 or 4 years in his tank still. I mean he looks like he looked 10 years ago right now. Things could change I guess. He could take a serious career ending hit. But you could say that with Tom Brady right now too.

Right, I just feel we need to cover ourselves in case Henson doesn't work out. I can't believe anyone would seriously consider Romo as a starting option. He seems like a nice kid and yeah he's got a little moxie, but I just don't see him as a NFL talent.

yeah, so far i like the way drew bledsoe has been playing but last year vinny testaverde had a good season start, you know i pretty good qb rating, but by the middle of the season it dropped. hopefully drew bledsoe can keep this up

I dont think Vinny ever averaged above 100 rating for any 3 game stretch......I'd love to see Bledsoe here if he keeps up the level of play. I dont want rivers though, I'd rather see them draft someone they can grow however they want!!
