Yeah it would suck losing RoMc. His physical style of play made a huge impact last year. Dude got banged up last year due to not playing for 2 years.

Which is why he should lower his expectations. Play another year reasonably with extensions built in.

People forget how good Lee is. McClain is almost overkill at this point. Unless he takes another cheap deal.

Hitchens-Brinkley-Lee in the base, Lee and Hitchens in Nickel

Rivers, Watson, Gachkar, Wilber backing up

All motivation and suspension issues aside, the guy had two concussions the last two games he played. That alone is a massive red flag.

I know! Somebody should tell him to quit hitting people so damn hard!

It's hard to remember just how good Lee is when he's always on the sidelines with one injury or another.

Yes, he's darn good but he'd be even better if he could actually stay on the field.

He was out all of last season, missed 5 games in 2013, missed 10 games in 2012, missed 1 game in 2011 and missed 2 games in 2010.

The guy is made of glass.

Never heard that before, guess we should cut him

McClain is not exactly a beacon of consistency. If he comes really cheap, sure but that doesn't look realistic

He's played less in a year than McClain did and McClain hadn't played in two years. Doesn't matter how much football you love and can play if your off the field.

I love Sean Lee, but let's cut the double-standard. McClain suffered two concussions in a row during the stretch run. He had injuries too. But he played.

he played one play vs GB. Lee couldn't play cause he tore his knee and was on IR. McClain has all the ability but the guy doesn't love football and only plays when he feels like it.

The guy was easily the best defender last year and totally changed the feel of the defense when he was out on the field. You bring him back if you don't have to pay any crazy amount for him.

I saw him as third best tied with Mincey. Scandrick and Crawford were better if for no other reason than that they stayed on the field. Scandrick in particular was tremendous i thought.

And Sean Lee constantly gets injured every year. So your argument is that McLain, when he gets injured, doesn't break as easily?

I think McClain, when healthy and motivated, is a difference maker. Since you have to put those two caveats into the sentence the team has to write a contract to protect itself. The two types of deals I could see working for the team with McClain is the Hardy deal and the deal Bruce Carter just signed.

Hardy's deal, as we know, basically pays him for games played and performance. A similar setup with about the same upfront and a much lower possible pay out could work. Carter's deal is basically a series of one year deals, so anytime that he doesn't meet the performance levels they want from him he's looking for a job again. Either of those deal types would work very well for McClain, as would something like what we did with Melton last year, a reasonable amount for one year with a better paying option behind it.

I just don't think he proved you can rely on him last year, and you can't pay him like he did.

I really want to see McClain back, but certainly not with some massive contract. He was about as unreliable a player as we had last year in terms of his various ways to exit games or miss practices. He was dynamic when he was "on," and for that reason I'd love to have him back.

Loved what McClain gave us last season but he's not the kind of player I would trust with a long term big money deal which is a sentiment shared by most of the league if his current status as a FA is anything to go by
