I thought someone would likely grab him too until the drug question came to light. Add that to all his previous headaches and you've got a leaguewide mandate that this guy is a huge risk. Seeing as how that is the case, Rolando is in no position to be greedy when it comes to a question of making the big money. He screwed the pooch with too many instances of instability to deserve the kind of trust that includes a huge monetary gamble.
I do believe the Cowboys' front office has the right plan in mind about their cautious approach in re-signing him.

According to Mike Fisher McClain is wanting way to much money , and there may be a rift right now. Deal isn't close.

Sorry this guy is just too much of a headcase for me. I say don't re-sign him. I didn't like the way he ended the season at all and he seems soft . Wasn't giving 100%.

As much as I have loved the Ro Mac story and rallied around him last season, this news of his "stance" has quickly soured my taste. We gave him a chance when it appeared as though he was on his way to bagging groceries. Fine thanks to the organization for helping salvage any semblance of a career. I love his size and aggressiveness to the point of attack but not for this drama. If he wants to play hardball, there's a Publix just waiting to take his application.

Some of these guys just have no clue how fortunate they are... until that fortune permanently changes...

Knowing Rolando, he might be turning other teams down. That's the type of dude he is.

H-m-m, that's an interesting twist to this thing. So, he wants the money but only if it comes from Da Boys . . .

Ya know what? That seems like it just might be wacky enough to be true. Who knew? Now, I'm really confused.

Remember, he said there were only a few teams he would come out of retirement for.

I'd like to see him back, but he's not getting a big payday from the Cowboys, nor should he.

He has way too many question marks around him to get big money, and if that's what he's after, he will have to go elsewhere - likely to a bad team with cap space - to find it.

The Cowboys have now covered themselves with the signing of Brinkley and Gashkar to where they're not forced to bring McClain back.

Ro was second in tackles last year despite missing games.

He strikes fear in opponents and fires up his teammates.

He likes the coaches here and will hopefully come around on signing a team-friendly contract to stay. He won't play for just any team.

This is why I think negotiations took a nosedive, he really wants to be here but feels like we are low balling him.
We are looking at like we've been looking at everything else (frugal).

So you're talking about someone who was recently retired being convinced to be in elite playing shape, for less money than he feels he is worth.

Meanwhile he views himself as probowl caliber when healthy. So you have a difference of opinions.

Doesn't make him bad doesn't make us wrong. Just part of the business.

The fact that he's still out there is pretty telling.

I think it's Cowboys or bust for him.

My guess is the team wants a deal similar to Hardy's where it's mainly game day roster bonuses. He's not getting his first four game checks and could miss 4 games with another failed test. He's probably still smoking pot so that's a risk as they'll be randomly testing him. Ro probably wants guaranteed money but it's not going to be much from any team out there. At the end of the day I think he places such high value on playing for a team that he is comfortable with and coaches that he likes that he'll stay over taking a chance with another team. Game of chicken. From Ro's perspective, there is not much incentive to sign that type of contract right now. "Prepping for divorce" is probably something the team floats out there to let him know we're not going to meet his asking price. Fortunately it appears no other team is going to either, at least one he is willing to play for (and I'm sure that's a short list.)

True. And then we have to consider the agents role in this whole thing. But the agent also answers to the player. Bottom line is this doesn't look like a happy ending for the people who want him back. I believe if he's not signed with another team or is not here for the first camp/meeting of veterans ... it's a wrap.

I want him back and will continue to hope they reach an agreement. But I do understand why the Cowboys would not want to invest in a large bonus or other guaranteed money.
