While I agree to a point, I feel it's also a bit of a fallacy. If a bad team offers a 1st round pick, and nobody else offers anything close, he's likely getting traded to that bad team.

they are not going to trade Tony Romo. Unless he tells them he wants out and points out a specific team he wants to go to they are not going to do that. They have never traded legendary players. They will release them and let them go on their way.

I will say it right now without any question there is a zero percent chance he is traded.

I have the feeling we are going to lose a fringe element of the fanbase the first day Romo is not a Cowboy

Don't care what they say...when my QB hits the market teams will come a callin'. Broncos, Cardinals and Texans gear are lookin' pretty good on me. So hopefully those teams with a shot make a move for the 9 car. Or else I'll have to figure out my gear for every Sunday in the fall of 2017 all over again.

Yeah, there's no way Bradford can fetch a 1st rounder but Romo only nets a late rounder

Bradford has more value. Bradford was young enough he could be a long term QB for a team. Not to mention, the Bradford trade is a product of desperation, not value. There is no chance we hold Romo hostage through preseason hoping a starting qb goes down to raise his value.

I love Romo but a trading partner is going to be paying for a player that has hardly played in 2 seasons and can not be considered a reliable, every game starter anymore.

If we get a 3rd round pick, I would be shocked. Our best bet is probably a conditional fourth or fifth that can be a second or third based on playing time and success. Regardless, dumping his salary is worth a seventh round pick IMO. We can take his salary and upgrade 2-3 positions on defense.

And I'm talking about a superbowl run with no backup qb if Dak gets hurt. Romo is insurance for that.
Right, it's a risk/reward situation, and the reward for the cap savings on shipping Tony far outweighs the possibility of Dak being out for a prolonged period of time. Can't let backup QB fears have this much sway on the team. Sanchez is a fully capable backup, anyway.

Fully capable as the other scrubs we had last year.

Exactly how capable do you think Romo would be in a backup role next year? Say Dak goes down for a few games late in the season, by that point Tony hasn't played sustained football in almost three years and is yet another year older. The backup spot is important, but it's not Tony's-cost, or the loss of what we gain from moving him on, important.

I say keep him and allow a QB competition next year, make it fair and square and loser can't whine and moan. If Romo wins Dak gets another year or two to season and learn, if Dak wins they have the best back up in the league. Don't think that will happen but I'd like that scenario better than losing Romo.

Plus I don't think Romo would go to a team with a line that would get him pummeled nor would a team with a suspect o line take him because he wouldn't last long.

IMO I say make a trade and make sure you get something fair in return. Look at the pats. 2 backups came in and played great. We need to get new talent and mold them to be a starter eventually.

Not going to happen.

Whoever loses the comp will be upset.

On top of that the Cowboys need to be out from under Romo's contract.

IMO the motivator for JJones is the big contract extensions on the horizon.
ZMartin and i cant remember who else. You cant keep a 20 plus million dollar
back up with other cap pressures right on top of you.
Plus there's all the touchy feely for Romo, Deservedly so.
As odd as Tony came in to our lives he is now is gone.
