Who care what teams value Romo at. He's under contract as a Cowboy and Jerry isn't giving him away. Dak needs a backup, and if Romo is that next year, then more the merrier. Fans are so obsessed with his salary. We always find ways to manage the cap. Next year will be no different if Romo stays.

There is ZERO, NADA, NO chance Romo is Daks backup next year. Taint happenin'.

they are not going to trade Tony Romo. Unless he tells them he wants out and points out a specific team he wants to go to they are not going to do that. They have never traded legendary players. They will release them and let them go on their way.

I will say it right now without any question there is a zero percent chance he is traded.
ANd that would be the dumbest thing Dallas could do. Who cares what Romo wants? If a team offers a pick for him then take it, and screw what Romo thinks about it.

Who would have ever thought Sam Bradford with 1 year left on his deal could fetch a 1st rounder plus? It's all about being in position to capitalize. They need to free up the cap room that will allow them to keep him and then wait for an injury or other desperate team to come calling. We're talking about a top tier qb. You don't give them away for free or let them go to your competition.

This is what is funny, lets just say that all of this didn't happen this year and Romo was the starter and Dak the backup. Would the Cowboys be in Cap hell in 2017? No they would manage it no problem. Dak is on a rookie contract. I don't see all the fuss with saving only 5M on next years cap by getting rid of him. We will be left in the same boat as what happened in 2015 where are starter was injured should Dak go down next year.

those are your feelings. The Jones family has never done that to a legendary player. They release them and have a formal goodbye of sorts.

Then the player is free to sign where he wants. That is how they have handled every player of Romo's level and he is even more beloved than most of the guys they released.

If Romo wishes to continue playing they will release him and he will sign somewhere else.

Again, know your history here there is a less than zero percent chance they trade him unless its something Romo and his agent work out. If there is an agreement in place with another team Romo picks they will do it. The chances of any team taking on his cap number when they could just outright sign him when he is released is basically zero.

So you can say screw romo all you want on the internet till your fingers bleed but its simply not going to happen and anyway speculating is wasting their time. If he wants to keep playing he will get released and pick his own destination.

My only fear is we screw up and get nothing for him just like Ware. We should get a 2nd at the minimum IMO. Teams pay, and overpay QB's all the time. We stink at trades however as Jerry can never keep his mouth shut.

I wouldn't put it at zero percent, but I think it's a low percent.

The only leverage JJ has is the fact that Tony is under contract-- and we don't "have" to move him. Tony is the best QB available on the market, but we won't give him away for nothing. JJ's recent remarks about "not even considering" Tony being on a different team next year is all posturing.

Tony has always shown a willingness to help the front office out in terms of his contract-- and it is in his best interest to lower his cap figure as that is what will make him even more attractive to teams in terms of a trade.

Therefore-- I can see Tony re-working his deal to make his cap hit manageable and attract offers. If there is a good offer on the table-- you move him. If there isn't, you keep him on as a backup or Tony retires. Those are the 3 options. Outright cutting him is not an option until after 2017. That's the way they set up his contract anyway.

Outside of Tony being frustrated at being a backup again-- the team holds 100% of the leverage. Even if Tony refuses to rework his deal, they can still carry his contract another season. Absolutely zero reason to move Tony unless the right deal is there-- and that posture is EXACTLY the one JJ should take in order to flush out the best deal for Romo.

That's exactly it. For a trade to happen, some other team that needs a bridge QB will need to pony up something with enough value to impact this team, a quality pass rusher or a high enough draft pick. It's not impossible, but a lot of things have to fall into place. Romo won't be the quarterback of the future for some team. He'll be a "win right now" guy for some team that has all the pieces and is missing a quality QB. Maybe Denver, but Denver also has Paxton Lynch who looked really good in college. I'm honestly not sure how his development is coming along or if he'll be ready.

1) Romo and his agent will be allowed to look for a trade. If Jerry likes the deal, Romo will be traded.
2) If Jerry doesn't like the deal, Jerry will work a deal.
3) Or, maybe Romo will take less and be a backup for something like 3 years at $7M/yr. He doesn't have to move and he gets $21M for the next 3 years. Might be better than the one year $14M with option year he gets with some other team

Yes, that is the stance for fans who think like we do but you also must remember that Jerry would have to pay a backup QB $14 million in real money. He probably won't be willing to do that not to mention it could become a distraction if it becomes the main story of the season and Dak has to answer questions about how he feels about his backup making 20 times more money than him. My hope is they work out an agreeable trade to a AFC team, never have to play that team in a meaningful game, and Romo comes back to Dallas in some compacity after he retires.

No
You would get more immediate cap space but making him June 1 cut
This. That's why unless a team gives us a 1st or 2nd, Tony is arguably more valuable to the team being released rather than traded.
