Romo should follow Nowitzki's lead (great article)

At this point in their careers, I say they are both equal. Good players but their teams are letting them down. Neither one owns a championship ring.

Because Dirk is not consistent, I don't think he will ever own one if he stays in Dallas. If he wins one elsewhere, it will be because another player will overshadow him in 75% of the games.

On the other hand, I think Romo has a 70% chance of winning a ring with the Cowboys before his career ends.

I will never watch another NBA game until they get that mess straightened out any way. What a idiotic game it is as it stands now. Something has to be done with the officials and the rules. They apply for certain players but not for others. Just stupid.

Forget Dirk and the Mavs, if Cowboys want to take a page from a team in the NBA, I rather they emulate the Rockets_that is a gritty, mentally tough, efficient and confident TEAM.

If these new rooks help the Cowboys achieve that level of cohesion, the season ends w/a ring.

And Tony needs to stay away from Dirk's girl. EVERYONE would be missing JS BIG TIME if Romo ever lost his mind and picked up that nutjob.

Oh brother... The Rockets get out of the first round for the first time in a decade and everyone starts throwing out superlatives. All for beating Portland. Give me a break.

I guess you missed the 2nd round where they have pushed the wunderkind Lakers to the brink of elimination? And they have done this w/out TWO of their best players. Rockets are playing some of the finest TEAM ball I have seen in a LONG time.

If you don't admire that effort, then you are not a fan of basketball.

No, people say he's soft because he's 7 feet tall and doesn't get his behind in the post where he could best help his team. Even a 40+ point effort from shooting from the outside renders his team a 4-1 whipping at the hands of the Nuggets, who I don't think have a single player over 7 feet.

Dirk's soft.

Dirkistan is a top 5 player in the NBA.In fact he is the best PF in the NBA.Dude what Im saying is this guy plays his nads off for his team and shuts his mouth. He is clutch when it matters most.Barber does this too.Romo is a celebrity QB u cannot deny it,he lives for the limelight.I think he can get back to not being that way if he wants too.He hath broken some of the TUNAs commandments bad.lol.

Dirk is not Top 5. Lebron, Kobe, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwayne Wade, Tony Parker, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, Brandon Roy, Chris Bosh are all better to name a few off the top of my head. Nor is he a power forward. He's a 7 foot 2-guard and that's why the Mavs will never win a thing.

*Flush*

There goes your credibility.

Dirk is better than Ray Allen, Turkoglu, and Lewis. Roy and Bosh are debatable as well.

But I agree with the LeBron-through-Garnett portion of your list.

I have to ask... Have you been watching the series?? It's like the Miami/Atlanta series from the first round, with each team taking turns getting blown out of the building. Did you think that they played a great "TEAM ball" game when they got beat by 40 the other night?

Dirk is an incredibly talented small forward in a 7ft lanky body.

He does not have a big mans mentality and never will.

He is a matchup problem on defense ...... but this is coupled with the fact he cannot cover anyone defensively himself.

He scores alot because of this match up problem ...... but he loses in the playoffs because he cannot defend even average players from other teams.

If he was on a team with real leader that he could play second fiddle too and work off of he would be successful.

But the Mavs owner does not know enough about basketball to let that happen.

i agree on all of those except parker. he is better than dirk. juckie seems to only look at the box score at the end of games as well. points don't mean much when you get backed down by point guards.

I'd take Hedo any day of the week over Dirk for the position they play. Hedo actually gets in the post, too.

I've never seen somebody choke a series game as much as Dirk did against Golden State last year. He was non-existent.

Preach on, brutha!

Two back-to-back possessions vs. the Nuggets in the 4th quarter of game 4 were oh-so-telling about Mr. Nowitzki.

In the first possession, he's attempting to back down Carmelo Anthony in the post. Dirk has 4 inches on 'Melo. Rather than punish Carmelo, though, he settled for a hideous fadeaway jumper that barely grazed rim.

Next possession, Dirk has JR Smith on him on a switch. Dirk has 6 inches on JR. After a weak attempt at backing JR down, Dirk promptly passes the ball to nobody in particular, out of bounds. Turnover.

The guy is 7'0" tall but has the mentality of a 6'6" player. A total waste of that extra 6 inches.

He was dominated by Stephen Jackson in the Golden State series. Hell, Baron Davis and Matt Barnes were both able to defend him decently as well.

There is no doubt that Dirk is a very good player. But he's not a LeBron, or a Kobe, or a Tim Duncan, or a Chris Paul. He's not a guy you can build a championship team around, unless if he has an OUTSTANDING supporting cast. The aforementioned players do it on BOTH ends, while Dirk is a very mediocre defender.

Only once in his career has Dirk actually led his team to anything and that was 2006 when the Mavs choked against the Miami Heat. He is a great scorer and that's it. He can't defend. He can't create for his teamates. And he has proven that in real clutch situations he is not the guy you want.

it's not suprising that most of the criticism in this thread is coming from Cowboys fans NOT from the metroplex that clearly dont watch the Mavs or Dirk play.

some actual facts for yall

Nowitzki is second among active players in career 40/10 playoff games,

He is also one of only 5 players in the HISTORY of the NBA to average over 25 points and 10 rebounds in his playoff career. Dirk averages 25.4 points and 11.2 rebounds in 96 career playoff games (which is higher than his career regular season average)...the other four players are Hakeem, Shaq, Bob Petit, and Elgin Baylor (all hall of famers)

I would say elmimination games are a good judge of a player's "heart" or "clutchness", especially game sevens. Well here are Dirk Nowitzki's numbers in 16 career ELIMINATION GAMES in the playoffs.

Points per game: 30.25
Rebounds: 12.5
Assists: 2.4
Blocks: 1.3
Steals: 1.1
FG%: 49.4%
3pt%: 43.6%
FTM: 8.9
FTA: 9.9
FT%: 89.3

Nowitzki is also 4-0 in game sevens thus far in his career

dont let the facts get in the way of your agendas though.

you need to WATCH.THE.GAMES. because you clearly havent

I dont blame you for not watching the Mavs, but you should probably refrain from acting like you know the team, because you obviously dont. You sound clueless to most of us that have watched Dirk and the Mavs over the years.

it would be pretty chicken **** to hold the WWE crap in that series against Dirk
