This is what you get from this coaching staff without Romo.

A close loss.

Until the losses start piling up and everyone heads for the door. Then, not so close anymore.

Other NFL teams can win with rookie QBs or backups. Its not an ideal situation to be in. But some can do it.

Not the Cowboys.

Just is what it is.

I don't get it, we lost a division game by one with a rookie qb, rookie rb, questionable defense and the sky is falling? I wanted the win as much as anyone here, but at the end it's one game. I think the offense will get much better. Would Romo have won this game? Maybe, maybe not. There was a better chance he didn't make it through the whole game without being injured. Dak looked ok, definitely MUCH better than anything we had last year. A couple plays turn out a different way and we win the game. If I recall, even with Romo over the last few years, we've sucked in the red zone.

As mentioned above, you have JG clapping after every bone headed play and on the other side they screw up and the coach is yelling at them...it's way too laid back in Jerry World.

Easily, even Sanchez could probably have won this game. Not blaming Dak who I think played well all things considered but when you have a qb who can't take a snap under center drop back and pass you gimp your offense big time

Romo probably does. He's a great QB. But Dak played well today. I got no beef with his performance, and I'm actually relieved to have seen it, because I think we've got our next QB on the roster already.

Me too. I thought he'd struggle. But he clearly belongs in this league. Things got off the rails as the game went on, but he's a rookie. What I saw early on was pocket presence, confidence, accuracy. All necessary tools.

Romo clearly wins this game. We need him back to have a good year. There's nothing wrong with saying that. But at least there is a glimmer of hope, because Dak is legit

I honestly think this thread is a bit of backlash because of the number of people who have wanted to dump Romo immediately for Dak. The 'Dak is the future, Romo had his chance' crowd - most of whom have been waiting years to **** on Romo and have crawled out of the woodwork recently.
I honestly think you're reaching multiple times in this thread with your suspicion.

People are excited to see what appears to be our future at QB and there nothing wrong with that at all. Especially given Romo's propensity to crumble regularly when hit as he has entered the twilight of his career.

Dak has that "it" factor and people (including me) are excited to see that we may have checked a box on the future needs list. If or when Romo comes back, we can all deal with it and possibly rejoice then. For now, I will continue to join others in supporting Dak at every corner.

The Romo era is over minus a brief appearance before the medevac goodbye. He's done. We'll never start and end a season with him again. Dak Prescott is the present and future whether you like it or not.

A lot of Dak hate in this thread.

I like it.

Saying that you would win a game with a perennial pro bowl QB rather than a rookie is not really hate. Dak was serviceable, which is really good for a guy who was supposed to be a long term project. When he was drafted I'm not sure most people would have said he was going to be serviceable until sometime next season, if then. So he's ahead of the curve by a ridiculous amount. He's just not on (a healthy) Romo's level at this point - which is not really a knock because there are probably 25 starting quarterbacks in the NFL who aren't either.

I think we all know that the play clock routinely gets to 1 because Romo is making up the gameplan on the field between plays.
What are you talking about? The same crybabies complain about the play calling even when Romo is playing. What's the difference?

It's ridiculous.

When Romo retires we are going to need to provide mental health treatment for a large segment of our fans that will find themselves suddenly dealing with postpartum stress disorder.

Cowboys lost this game because as well as the rook played, he couldn't finish. Romo finishes those drives.

THey also used Zeke too much. His lack of time playing with the first unit Oline showed. He was impatient. He didn't set up his blocks or wait for things to develop. Inside the 20 they should have went with Alfred a lot more.

Too many stunts on defense opened huge holes for the Giants. All in all, a one point loss is not that bad a showing. Especially for a rookies first start. No real mistakes or turnovers. He was impressive.

Possibly on Romo.
Agree 100% on Zeke.

Zak definitely knows how to throw the ball away. I was impressed at when he threw the ball at Witten's feet when the play was busted, and to the ground when Zeke didn't clear the for the screen. It doesn't pad his stats any, but it is a smart game decision. He also threw the ball high when the D undercut the route. The young/healthy Romo didn't do that stuff, and had a tendency to gun it elsewhere. I like the young QB's decisions and think he has a future. However, we don't have a QB controversy IMHO. I'm appreciative for Romo. I look forward to his return, but I want him to throw the ball away when a play breaks down.

Agree 100%. While he may not have finished all those drives with TDs he sure isn't going to be dinking and dunking all day. The coaching staff should have kept morris on the field with his success. Zeke will get there it just may take a few games.

It's hard to imagine Romo lasting more than a game or two, he seems to have an I ncreasing number of vulnerabilities, he appears to be less evasive, it's doubtful that he will ever change his preference/need for risky long developing plays and most importantly, defenses have had success in knocking him out of multiple games with legitimate and illegal hits and will continue to make that a primary focus of their game plans.

I look at him as only theoretical at this point, no longer a real scenario, we saw the future last night and the future is now, for better or worse.

I hate Dak too. So you've got company.
