the hype was last preseason. he went to have 2 amazing preseason games. then the idiot speared him in the head and cost a huge injury. that ability to play, both physically and mentally, does not just vaporize in a few months. garrett cannot reverse the narrative 1 year later and expect no one to catch the inconsistency.
then he was not taken of ir to get reps. reps is what he needs and he was deprived of it in the wasted season that was last year.
he has not had 3 years. 1 year of practice on the practice squad and 1 year on ir where he cannot practice with the team. the lost time on ir is probably what damaged the relationship.
he can be a redzone threat right now. it is the job of the coaches to make the best of the available talent. instead they try to force things that dont fit either because of ability or of experience. what blocking i have seen was not bad recently.
and if there is concern for dak, why not put him in the first quarter while it is rush at qb. instead even schultz got in before him.
two amazing games, wow, how the legend grows. He had two good games, please put the annointing oil away, which is what the rico fan club tends to do...... lets not forget he had those games against 5th and 6th stringers who are no longer in the league....which tells me his game is probably still at a college level and not NFL level.
and he got hit in the head....now you call the guy idiot, because your player, your idol, got injured. its freaking football and injuries happen...all the time....based on what you just said, you wanted him to be protected during practices....
the ability to be athletic doesn't vaporize....again, you are blowing up a comment about him progressing and being good at the level that was expected of him, as him being a good NFL TE......it was a comment to the press about a player who was a gamble pick in the 6th round.....and the comment wasn't about him being mentally ready...... I think you are reading way too much into a simple comment and given your obvious bias using it to justify something that makes no sense....
and again, in the 3rd year, expectations are he knows the plays, he knows his assignments....those don't just happen in the field. they happen in the class room and through mental reps, which is what EVERY good NFL player does....so if in his 3rd year , he is still inconsistent in understanding his assignments...that's on Rico, it has nothing to do with his ability to block, etc.
he could not have been taken off of the IR...NFL rules.... so that argument is moot....and once again, not a wasted season...there is still plenty to learn for a player who hasn't played football since middle school.
he can be a red zone threat....but he is not the only redzone threat.... and should not be the only red zone threat...the question is what else does he bring to the table, vs. cutting somebody else and what they bring to the table and can I replace those redzone opportunities with other players.....if all he brings to the table is being a red zone threat, then he is very very very limited and I wouldn't want him on the team.
and yes, its the coaches job to make the best out of the available talent....ALL of the players, not just Rico. which seems like the rico fan club is taking issue with him not getting special threatment, because he is 6'6", 280 and runs a 4.8....
and sounds like you are disappointed that Rico didn't get a chance to play in first quarter. ....and team instead wanted to evaluate Schultz...which is what coaches are supposed to do...evaluate their players.... Schultz played college ball and high school and played in a big time program and was a 4th round pick.... he may not be 280, but he probably has better understanding of scheme, assignments than Rico....he may not be as physically talented, but he can probably execute better, than try and win jump balls....
I am sorry that you feel disappointed in not seeing one of your favorite players play...but when I watch him, even in this last game...I see a lumbering player, with minimal change of directions and ability to run routes, whose sole reliance is on his athletic ability and size to win battles for the ball.... that's only good for 5th and 6th string players...against 1st teamers, he will have a fat chance to succeed without really knowing how to play football. its disappointing for you rico fans to hear that, but its reality....it would be a idiotic to think all these 1st and 2nd stringers and top notch players are just chump change against rico....what I have seen taking my bias glasses off, is a very average player, very unimpressive....if all you think about is redzone threat, then your knowledge of football is quite limited.....even mine is limited...like I said...Garrett shiets more football knowledge than you and I understand combined.
