Root of the Rico argument

The argument over this guy is really simple. The name of the game is to outscore you opponent. If you answer honestly which tightend looks like theyd be able to score easily? Gathers! This preseason which tightend has caught the most passes? gathers! and in the least amount of playing time? Gathers? They didn't really play gathers until the fourth quarter! He played a play here and a play there in the third. Here is another thing. Who was Cooper rush's go to guy last preseason? gathers! Cooper rush went on a tear last preseason mostly because of Gathers! Now his goto guy is gone. I dare the coaches to let gathers start with cooper and play for a whole half. Let him play with Cooper for one quarter and with white for a quarter but he needs to play a half and let the other tightend play for a whole half. let's see how it looks. People keep saying these QBs suck but their offensive lines suck, all they are trying to do is impress and they have little to impress with. We are built to run and you got lineman out there who can even run block and they sure can't pass protect. Pro football focus was focused on something else. I don't know what they were looking at. Lastly, um going to play the look at other teams card. Slot of teams barely use their tightends to block or they have a tightend who does that and a tightend who pass catches. Tony Gonzalez really didn't block slot. Jimmy Graham doesn't block. Shannon Sharpe was terrible at blocking. I rarely see Kelce blocking or Greg Olsen. All I'm saying is if you can catch a lot of balls and score points , who cares about your blocking. That's is the main argument. All you can say is well in this team you have to block that's the problem. Is like no one can see or think outside the box. I'd be thinking if this guy can catch and score that easily maybe I can make an exception and use Him differently. It's like telling Dan Marino , I know you have a rocket arm and that you can throw the ball really well but since you can't throw to the left side in this area that I've circled for you I'm not going to let you play. You've thrown for more yards and had more completions than your competitors but that doesn't matter because you aren't hitting the areas that I've circled for you on this picture or diagram of the field. All um saying is who cares about these technicalities , you should be able to coach or work around the short comings if you see high potential, cause I'm sorry swaim and no other tightend has the potential this guy has if and when he can put it all together.

garrett's incompetency/possible power-game is the reason why a lot of us dont trust rico is getting a fair shot.
why do some want rico gone:
1. some blindly follow what garrett says even if it is inconsistent with what was said last preseason
2. some invested too much against rico and they now want him to fail
3. some cannot handle uncertainty and just want it to end

i have yet to hear a rational argument why:
1. rico is not the best fade/highpoint receiver since dez's prime
2. how a fade/highpoint receiver is not a critical advantage in red zone
3. how a red zone specialist is not good for a 3 down passing threat
4. why rico cannot be useful for both rushing downs and passing downs when lined up wide (or in the slot)
5. anyone would want any other tight-end to catch a critical pass
6. what stephen said rico's progress is false

Gather's isn't a receiver. He's not a red zone specialist. He made a handful of preseason catches.
No one wants Gathers to fail, they're just not getting wood over a potential player who's done nothing. If he's not getting enough opportunities that on him.

a handful of preseason catches is more than what jarwin and short-arm schultz have (1ft less catching radius).
declarations without evidence.

So what? It's preseason vs scrubs. He hasn't even ran with the starters.

he has not even ran with the starters, that is why many question if rico is getting a fair shot.
u do recall rico was reported to have been burning the 1st team defense with romo throwing the ball?
it does not count?

so how many catches against 1st teams does schultz have?
u do realize his arms are shorter than a couple dbs on the team.

most do not argue against rico's talent, but u do.
yes, i realize u may have over-extended urself against rico and now invested in his failure.

Virgins are popular :lmao2:
orig

zeke - obvious and proven
dak - obvious and proven
rico - fade/jump ball threat that may draw attention away from zeke (eg. lb or best safety)
austin - misdirection
they are complementary

rico would be useful even if he did nothing but just run the same route over and over again in the red zone.
if u press him, what happens in the 'say 50%' of the time the press is not successful
if u give him a free release, anyone can see an opening in the zone, preferably close to the sidelines.
none of the other tightends or wrs are the fade/jump ball threat that rico is.
if u disagree, name one.
so the only way to be a threat in the endzone for passing game is a fade and jump ball? no running routes, no inside slant routes, no WRs ....none...just that...

ok, that explains a lot why you think Rico is the answer to many things....very simplistic view.....

how do other teams do it then when they don't have a Rico? or another jump ball and fade in the corner type receiver and

you just took Rico over a bunch of NFL caliber WRs, who have actually played and succeeded as college players....

and you are telling me your are not in love with Rico!!!! your posts say otherwise...

thanks. some think i was messing around, but this is really what i believe.
so jerry is so dang stupid that he put garrett in place, in charge of a billion dollar franchise and some how managed to grow it even further over the past 8 years...I mean garrett and his dad have to be really two really smart cookies to pull the wool over such a smart and obviously successful businessman and fool him for such a long time......

conspiracies are abound....anything to justify the line of thinking.

as stated above, both r young and it is controllable time that is critical.
rico is a young 25 if he is 25 as he barely saw much action last 2 years.

some say he is lacking in protection yet others say he did not miss a block yesterday.
i have no idea on his blocking though i did not see a missed block either.
if he is so bad, line him up wide and use him as a huge mismatch wr.
he is way too slow as a WR to be able to run any viable routes...and you think the DC are so stupid, they are going to line up a CB against a TE that can't run routes and runs a 4.8....in essence the Rico fan club wants all throws to Rico be a jump ball...because the guy is 6'6" and he can win jump balls....

I am at a loss with people's line of thinking at this point....Its not the freaking peewee flag football league people....

Lmao. Garrett has been around football his whole life yet still has no idea about clock management, adjustments, game planning, not to ice your own kicker, etc? This is the guy you think has some sort of pedigree we should respect? He's a clown of a head coach who only holds this position because of Jerry's ineptitude. Garrett was a career, spare backup QB. No one wanted him as a coach until Jerry swooped in.
and yet he has a winning record and is 1-2 in the playoffs and he was the OC that had 3 top 10 finishes and his offense finished 2nd in the NFL one year.....but the garrett haters on the zone know more than all other football experts in the NFL... ooookkkk....lets go with that!!

Yet those teams actually got something out of him. He won a Super Bowl ring, too. We got zero out of him because we have no idea how to use anyone athletic on this team.
so in your opinion, if anyone is athletic then any NFL coach, outside of garrett will be able to make them into a football player and get something out of them. I wonder why all these other NFL coaches, aren't just drafting a bunch of 6'9", 6'10" mid level basketball players that can run and make them into these weapons of mass destruction as many are making Rico to be, why aren't they just going after all these Olympic sprinters that can run a 4.2 40 and have them jut run deep routes ever play, perhaps, they can get a basketball forward and one of these great athletes that run fast 100 yard meters and put them on the field together...how the heck will the NFL defend against that.... a sprinter and a jumper...

sarcasm fully intended...

and what if another team picks him up and he fails? You are right that because many fans do not like Garrett whatever he says means nothing to those fans. Myself I think the coaches have reasons for not putting a guy out there who they have invested 3 years in and that reason is he is not executing his assignments and a weakness in his ability to block. I hand it to Rico, he is a guy who has not played football since Jr. High and has lasted this long but this is the NFL not street football, his ability or lack of to execute plays is not an option it is a must.
OMG, what did you do? why did you inject rhyme and reason into the debate....you just caused a whole bunch of headache for a bunch of people :muttley:

Good post. It seems some fans think all there is to playing a game is drawing a pass pattern on a chalk board and telling a player to do that. If that's all it took we could just hire a 6'10" backetball player to run into the end zone and we would throw the ball up too high for anyone else to reach. But it's not that simple. If the roster limit was 70 instead of 53, or if there were no roster limit at all, it would be easier to keep a player that is so far behind in experience and understanding. I still think Rico will probably make the team, but it's a much tougher decision than some want to make it.
not only that, they also argue that the only plays in the redzone is jump balls and corner fades to a tall player...damn all other plays....

I think if the staff would have kept him off IR last year he would be much farther along. Practicing against sleds and dummies is one thing but blocking a moving, resisting, and trying to escape person is another and being on IR he could do neither with the team or against "real" NFL players.
also, studying film, learning the playbook and going through mental reps are also a very proven way of becoming a better football player.... all good players do it....

He was an alternate, replacing Gronk.
he was just another NFL whoore to NE, they have Brady, Bilicheck and they bring on and dump players and continue to win..... Marty was just lucky to be there and collect a superbowl ring...they quickly dumped him before he became a headache....

first, his blocking is making progress according to latest reports.
second, his ability to get the ball was what dez provided, only at 1/15 the salary. in fact, i would say rico can get the ball better than dez could.
third, we are not superbowl favorites this year, not close. we should develop players with the talent, instead of players with limited talent.
is rico talented? football talented? or is he athlete? trying to become a football player.... there in lies the difference....

I agree, but not being able to take coaching while on the IR he would have to go somewhere else, and I do not know if NFL rules allow the team to tell the player where he can go to practice and learn the ins and outs of the playbook away from the team.

you just outlined the reasons that you are very limited in your understanding of NFL level football......

so based on this Swaim is world's better than Rico, since he has 9 regular season catches..... I mean those are real games, not preseason against 5th and 6th stringers.
