Rosenthal: 11 Current Players on the HOF Bubble

0 Super Bowl rings- Romo will never get in. Lo siento
1 super bowl ring - Romo MAYBE gets in, but it would take a long long time
2 super bowl rings - Romo is in no problemo
3 super bowl rings - Romo is in first ballet

I agree with you with one caveat (or maybe an explanation on your second point). If Romo wins a Super Bowl AND has a historic year in the process, i.e., leading the league in yardage, engineering spectacular comebacks, etc., he gets in.

If he's a bit player like Peyton Manning was last year, then, I agree, it's iffy even with the ring.

Personally, I don't think Drew Brees should be a lock for the Hall of Fame - based on what his contemporaries accomplished. But he put up stupid numbers that year and is considered the galvanizing force behind the Saints run. Also, winning the Super Bowl a year or two (can't remember the exact time) after Katrina, simply adds to his mythical, mystical, magical story.

I think 1 ring guarantees him HoF. People have, over the past couple of years, started to turn around on Romo and realize how good he's been throughout his career. You never even hear anyone in the press claim he's a choker now, they simply say that OTHER people used to claim he was a choker. If he wins a Superbowl they'll look at his numbers and he'll be a lock.

If you take where Romo came from he definitely deserves consideration.

Where a player came from isn't part of the criteria the HOF Committee takes into consideration when voting players in.

I thought this meant 11 Cowboys I was like ya right.

All on offense.

Romo, Witten, Bryant, Smith, Frederick, Martin, Elliott.

Crap, I need more. Does Bailey count?

Actually, all kidding aside, Witten's a lock. The rest have a ways to go to even get in the conversation being had about Romo.

No ring no chance for Romo in the Hall of Fame. He doesn't have the playoff record and his numbers won't be near good enough to get him in. Too many of his peers have better career numbers.

What are all the things they weigh to make this decision of who gets in and who does not?

It's a bunch of media guys who vote. There is no official criteria. If they like you, you are in.

With skill position players such as QBs, WRs and RBs they'll look at their career numbers. With corners they'll look at how many career INT's they had and they'll look at the number of Pro Bowls/All-Pro teams a player has made. They look at stats, championships and a number of different things when selecting players for the HOF.

They put in whoever they want to. There's no criteria. In recent history for QBs it's "hurr durr, count the ringz" with an occasional exception for record book destroyers like Marino and Moon.

If voters take into account who the players played for then you best believe an UDFA should get some extra points when those considerations are made

If Romo doesnt win a sb, I think the only way Romo becomes a Hof is if the Cowboys dont get a decent qb for a long time.

Sometimes players arent appreciated until they are gone and their replacements arent any better.

Romo on the 90s teams wins 4 Super Bowls.

Aikman on Romo's teams would be dead.

Aikman would be dead but the years Romo made the postseason, I think Aikman in his prime would make the postseason in those years except for 2009.

Cowboys have the added advantage of having a guy who makes their case for the Hall of Fame being a very influential writer. Unfortunately he's got such a hate boner for the team that he'll likely make the case against them.

I never thought of it like that. Very interesting stuff. This is the stuff I like to see
