Sacase pointed it out so I won't discuss that point.

Actually, we need to discuss this point, considering your putting words in my mouth. And Sacase was incorrect in providing that quote. It proves the exact opposite of what he wanted to project.

You're not going to get me to argue that Newman has better breaking speed, however in such a short area, would Newman have been able to bring down Shockey before he got into the endzone? Exactly how much of a cushion should Roy have given him? 6 yards, 5 yards, 4 yards?

He would have played the ball, like he did against Plaxico and nearly had an interception...

And considering the 1st down marker was at the 4 in the above play, you would expect Roy to play a little closer than playing the end-zone...

Who is faster? Shockey or Williams

Who is faster? Newman or Buress?

Now, lets just say that possibly Shockey is faster than Williams and we know Newman is faster than Buress.

Who should give a bigger cushion - Roy should , but yet Newman is giving a bigger cushion than Roy in those pictures and he has inside and outside help. Roy has no help and yet is right there when the ball arrives.

I think your issue should be with the scheme, rather than with RW.

Look at the picture again... Where is Eli looking in the first picture, when the WR is still running his route, i.e. the WR is still at the 4 or 5 yard line, and he hasn't even turned around? That was Eli's first option, and Newman had perfect coverage on Plaxico. By the time the ball was floating in mid-air, is when you see Plaxico past Newman.

Jeebus, it's Tuesday.

It was a great pitch and catch - Roy just couldn't make a play on the ball.

A few weeks back, we saw Antoine Winfield and Darren Sharper blow coverage and leave TO alone in the back of the end zone. A week before that we saw Terrence Newman screw up his coverage and let Moss shake loose free in the end zone. Last week I watched Troy Polamalu be completely incapable of keeping pace with Kellen Winslow. Are these bad players? Is it damning to them, as allowing Shockey to cross his face without James available to help is to Roy? I don't know. Who cares?

It's Tuesday.

That is nice an all, but where is the ball?

In Manning's hand.

And how far was Shockey when he made the break?

He made the cut right before he got to the goal line. Roy was right in front of him, waiting to see which way he cut.

Show me the photo of the catch? Then we can see if Roy was anywhere 'inside' of Shockey, when he caught the ball.

And that tells me what?

It tells you it's a common technique used in the NFL. Here's Anthony Henry and Keith Davis doing the thing last week against the Eagles --

Jacques Reeves was doing the same thing on the other side of the field, but his receiver stopped at the 4-yard line.

I can show you plenty of photos of other teams doing the exact same thing -- having their defensive backs play off and pick up the receiver at the goal line when the offense is near the goal line.

I don't post very often. Usually it is to remark that a troll is about to die. Kind of a play on the username.

Remind me to never disagree with you Sir. I have no desire to look stupid and every time these guys try this, that's exactly what the mirror shows. I think the only reason they keep going is they can't stand their own reflection.

It's kind of like quicksand. The more they struggle, the deeper they sink.

The pictures you posted look like tight coverage to my untrained, non expert eyes.

Man, you never cease to amaze, Adam.

And to think, this guy was even arguing that Eli threw the ball to Shockey's back shoulder.

I'm not sure I've seen anyone look this foolish on this board in a while.:D

if Roy was playing so well, i don't think there would be so many people questioning his play. i agree that Roy had good coverage on the shockey td and that SHEli just made a great throw. but Roy was drafted 8th overall(i think) and was drafted to be a game changer. he has done that since he has been drafted. but most players that come into the nfl like him get better. he is making more mistakes and getting worse. he has not been a game changer this season so far. his 2 picks were in garbage time and had no effect on the outcome of the game. I think Roy set the bar pretty high for us fans in his 1st 2 seasons. I know he has 4 probowls but mike vick had a bunch too. Fact is he doesn't play like a #1 draft pick anymore and doesn't make big plays anymore. he also hits like a girl compared to the way he used too.

I know this is hard for people to possibly fathom, but have any of you thought that he's possibly playing hurt?

We went through alot of this same b/s in 2004, when a few of us were crucified for defending that "bust" Terrance Newman, a few of us suggested he might be playing hurt, and low and behold that turned out to be the case

no, he hasnt

you also have to factor in what he has done to his body with the way he played the game...the guy was an extremely violent hitter, and not only played on defense but was quite a hitter on special teams...

Nonsense. Some players have very good games, but some people think they played terribly because of a few plays when they weren't even at fault. Others say they're not playing great unless they make big plays at key times, not realizing that some all-time players don't always make big plays at key times in every game. Big plays are rare -- that's why they're big. And they're even more rare when you count them only if they come at key times in the game.
