Roy covering Shockey-->>Whose Idea?

This is true, but he did lineup close to 10 yards off Shockey several times when Shockey was split wide and Shockey made several short yardage plays some for first downs. Everytime Shockey split wide and Roy went wide with him, Shockey got the ball.

Yeap Roy respected his speed and gave up the short plays rather than the deep.....

Sometimes I wonder how many fans on the board actually played football and even coached it on any level. The arguement over Roy is funny to me besides being asinine.

Roy did his job as usual. Maybe he isn't the best cover strong safety in the NFL but he is still better than the starting strong safety on more than 25 of the other teams.

Let's see who might be better, Bob Sanders -- terrific hitter, injuried alot, even Dungy says average in coverage which is always a cover two and doesn't change. Troy Polamula -- great hitter, good cover safety, but been beaten alot by TEs this year; Ed Reed -- excellent cover guy but does get beat in coverage like all of them. Other than those three, who is better.

Want to bet Roy wouldn't have a hard time finding a starting spot on the other teams.

I'll stick with Roy until we draft someone better. He deserves alot more credit than some give him and it is only because he gets beat in coverage which I don't understand. Who doesn't get beat and keeping Shockey in front of him did allow the defense to make Manning have to drive the ball which he wheree he is more prone to mistakes. Guess some would have been happy with Shockey grabbing 4 catches for 3 TDs and 200 yards instead of 12 catches for 100+ yards and 1 TD.

And by the way, isn't that the same as Witten doing his job against the strong safeties on other teams?

I could say the same thing about you and bigbadroy or cowboyz88. You are looking foolish because you joined the forum a month ago and already are making claims about posters who have been here for years.

Adam is one of the most respected posters on this site ..... his post on the Salary cap are stickied at the top of the page. Are the Mods sucking up to him as well?

Seems to me you are still angry that he spanked you in the other thread and I pointed and laughed.

So very, very true.

Bob Sanders played Wes Welker man coverage three times that I could see in that Indy/Pats game. Results: 1 TD,1 first down and 1 incompletion on attempted pass to Moss.

I actually played strong safety.

Most strong safeties do not play any man coverage.

It's easy to consider tight ends slow and prodding blockers but Shockey is a Gates type. He's a tall, big WR, not a blocker or true tight end. Further he was being split out wide. Our CB's cover WR's 10 yards off as well when in man in that situation unless they are going up to get the jam at the line of scrimmage. Do we really expect our SS to go up and jam a TE at the line of scrimmage in man coverage???

RW is not above criticism and when he is out of position or missing tackles he deserves the heckling... but for allowing underneath stuff in man coverage? sheesh!

Good point. This is how we play the wideouts. And if they just wanted to go underneath to Shockey (or any other receiver split wide), we'll let them have it all day.

first of all he didn't spank me that is your opinion and many posters on this board have sent me emails stating it's a no win cause when posting on this board and disagreeing on some subjects because of favortism and Roy Williams homers; Not to mention they admired the way I continued to prove my point, and I only lacked video evidence versus the documented evidence; second of all why would I be angry? Only a ****** would show emotion or feel emotion over a message board...I've been using this same name for years on every board that I post on, and many can vouch for that.....Like I said even if you are not the same person, your nose is so far up his butt that you can see his heart beat.....

Be it in debate with Adam or the boogeyman there really should be a specific argument made, backed with an example, then any conjecture could be pasted on top but if it is all conjecture then nothing much has been said.

Saying "I saw" this occur at some point is just not enough evidence to counter the gamelogs WG posted or Adam's assertion of x number of catches for x number of yards likely provided by the Dallas statisticians.

I think a lot of it is that we got spoiled when Woody was here. He could drop down and cover a wideout in the slot and do it well. He was a sure tackler. He was a hard hitter. He was everything you'd want in a safety and we had him for so many years.

It's unfair to compare ANY safety to that standard. We'll be lucky if we EVER get a safety anywhere close to his skillset again.
