Roy Williams not as bad after all

I like Roy and I'm glad we have him, he's just not the Superman we all thought he would become.:starspin

I've said this before ... that HAS NOT HAPPENED. Roy has been in the game on every obvious passing down.

Ok I'll rephrase...downs that Wade THINKS the other team is going to throw. EX: he did not "start" against the Jets

This has been beaten to death and debunked already in several threads.

Most strong safeties struggle in coverage against decent TEs, some struggle in pass coverage period, some safeties struggle more than others. Roy struggles in pass coverage period. I think his struggles are more visible because our linebackers suck at pass coverage as well.

I would like to know how many SS have sucessfully covered Witten one on one over the years? Anyone of the RW bashers want to answer? Good tight ends win over good SS everytime one on one. Usually because the TE is running off the line about 15yds from the SS. In man to man coverage it's easy to get open with a 15yd cushion.

You enjoyed it...

I encouraged it. I was all like "Oooohhhh, Roy.....wanna do a line off my...? Sign my breast."

And then we laughed, and ate scones.

If your premise is actually true, then I say play the game with an extra FS. What you gain from the SS in the running game is somewhat negated when you are a very good defensive team that can stop the run with the front 7 most of the time.

Today's game is all about passing...you have to be able to cover the TE.

yeah he looks great...now that they take him out of cover situations!:lmao2: Roy is bottom of the league when it comes to coverage -stop skirting it.

Which SS deserve to go in instead of Roy?

Why cant anybody ever answer this question????

No one here is talking about the safety that witten smoked this week, the safety that gates went wild on yesterday( ed reed and company!!)

or the safety that winslow went wild on, lj smith killed rodney harrison, and so on.

you people crack me up on here acting like dallas has the only safety in the league who cant cover the elite te's thats why they are premier te's!

they consistently beat coverages thats what they do so call me when a bum is burning roy williams not shockey, crumpler, gates, gonzales, winslow, dallas clark, or heap.

Im not saying he should always get beat by those guys but understand that even the best corners still cant stop the best wr's they can only contain them in some ways.

Wrong again. Roy has been in the game when we think the opponent is going to throw. The few times he has been out have been when we think the opponent probably is going to run out of a spread formation.

Whenever we think the opponent is going to pass, we go to the 3-3, dime or nickel, and Roy has always been on the field.

Probably the same reason they can't list all of the times Roy has been burned deep by wide receivers this season -- you can't list things that don't exist.

You're absolutely right. He's one of many underwhelming safeties in the league right now. It's like taking first prize in an ugly contest. That blue ribbon on your wall might look awfully nice, but at the end of the day, you're still ugly.

Over the past two weeks, I have watched many strong safeties that many considered to be far better than Roy Williams get exploited. Last week, it was Polomalu getting owned by the Jets and last night, it was Harrison getting owned by LJ Smith. Smith caught many critical passes against Harrison last night and Harrison also blew coverage on one of the TD’s to Brown. This led me to realize that you won’t find very many strong safeties in the NFL that can really cover decent tight ends one on one. I am not saying it can’t be done, but it is an extreme rarity. The Pats just have been doing a better job of keeping Harrison from getting exploited than the Cowboys had for Williams. That doesn’t mean he sucks though. So take that into consideration next time Roy gets beat by a TE or WR in coverage…It happens to the best of them.

THANK YOU!

Finally, someone watched OTHER games.

I wish everyone that hates on RW would do the same.

those other safeties weren't drafted 8th overall and aren't the highest paid player in the league at the position.

All they want is for Roy too

Rush the QB like a DE
Tackle like a Linebacker
Hit like a safety
and cover like a corner.

is that to much to ask?

This is the problem with all those who think they know what they are talking about.

I don't wanna mention that guy who is taking the blunt of all the criticism on our team this year but if people actually watched other games they would have something to compare an expected performance too.

They watch 1 game a week... the Cowboys... if a player (cough 31 cough) doesn't live up to THEIR EXPECTATIONS than the sky is falling.

If they watched other games during the week they would notice players get beat no matter how "good" they are.
