Name me one player in the history of this league that was worth a damn that has said a similar comment?

Im waiting...

Great players don't have this mindstate that he is in

Roy is a lost cause

Steve Young the year after he was traded to SF.

"If I start, I start. If I don't, I don't," Williams said. "Whatever helps the team in the best situation, then they'll use me. If not, then somebody is better than me. I'm okay with that. The whole common goal is to win."

I wonder where Roy's sense of pride has gone.

There was nothing wrong with what Roy said.

Again you are letting you hate for Roy make you irrational

Who said he was content with average or below average play? Thats all in your head

This is nothing but him saying he will do whatever he is asked. Thats a good thing to find in a player

To recap If Roy says he wants to start we bash him for not being a team player

If Roy says whatever it takes to win, we bash him for not wanting to start

If Roy says no comment we bash him for being thin skinned and avoiding the media

Oh yeah, Roy has a chance with you guys lol

Roy can't win for losing when it comes to the media, with some people.

It seems that some are stopping after reading the first part of this quote and drawing a conclusion about Williams' mindset.

They are missing out on him saying that he wants to do what is best for the team, not what's necessarily best for himself. He wants to do whatever it takes to win.

Keep every part of the quote in context and I don't see how this can be taken as a negative. Take the first part out of context and it's easy to draw the conclusion that Williams doesn't care, has no fire, etc.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with realizing that another player might be better than you at something and realizing that it might be better for the team to use that player in certain situations. That's certainly better than players who refuse to recognize such things and cause problems for the team because of their egos.

Exactly.

I know what I don't want to hear from a Pro Bowl player and that's the idea of losing his starting job isn't a big deal.

Pod Person. You can't figure that out?

Where did he say, "If I lose my job I am OK with it." He never said that and you would insane to think that someone like Roy would sit in the shadows OK with being a 2nd stringer. I will bet money if he was put on the second string he would either retire or ask for a trade but do it in sense that you probably wouldn't hear much about it, he would be the exact opposite of Greg Ellis.

This blurb from Roy really annoys me.

Camp Notes: Henry Weighs Safety Move

OXNARD, Calif. - Going into 2007, the Cowboys' biggest concern was shoring up their offensive line, and they did, sending three linemen to the Pro Bowl. This off-season, the team was focused on improving the secondary.

But, the defensive backfield already has three Pro Bowlers in Terence Newman, Roy Williams and Ken Hamlin, so how can it get better? Though Williams made his fifth Pro Bowl in 2008, his weakness in pass coverage showed at times. One solution to the concerns floated out there has been moving Henry to safety in some passing situations, but the seven-year veteran said he would only be open to a move after some non-football related conversations with team brass.

"It depends on situations outside of what we talk about on the field," Henry said. "My main thing is to win games no matter where they put me, but still things have to be talked about from a different angle."

During the talent acquisition phase of the off-season, the Cowboys figured the best way to max out their pass coverage would be to bolster the depth at cornerback, and they did that, trading for Tennessee's Adam Jones and using a first-round pick on Mike Jenkins from South Florida. Later in the draft, they added Boise State corner Orlando Scandrick. Plus, they made sure to lock up safety Ken Hamlin long-term. Will the off-season effort pay off?

"No matter who's in there, I like the depth that we've got," Henry said.

"We've got guys that will go in there and make plays and match-up well with any group of receivers around the league. We've got to take it to the field."

Henry and Newman agreed that an answer could be to play more man-to-man coverage to take advantage of all the first-round talent in the secondary. Earlier this off-season, Williams admitted to not being comfortable in man coverage and hoping teams wouldn't throw the ball his way.

"If I start, I start. If I don't, I don't," Williams said. "Whatever helps the team in the best situation, then they'll use me. If not, then somebody is better than me. I'm okay with that. The whole common goal is to win."

Receiver Search
With an open roster spot created by Terry Glenn's release, the Cowboys likely will sign first-year receiver Todd Lowber, who spent last season on the Giants' practice squad and also went to training camp with the Vikings. The CFL's Toronto Argonauts recently signed him to their practice squad.

If signed, the 26-year-old Lowber will fill out the 80-man training camp roster. The Cowboys currently have nine receivers, but are looking for more practice depth.

Why he is even mentioning this during TC? Shouldn't he be confident and attacking the idea that he may lose his starting job?

The last thing I want to hear from him is that if he doesn't start he's ok with it. Show me some fire in the gut Roy!!!

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

i've really come to find that roy can say nothing good to those already done with him.

put some head banging in there for people who just won't get off his jock long enough for him to breathe.

You would think some people would have learned after taking Wade's comments out of context and now this. Does anyone know what Roy was asked or if he just said these things unprompted?

people tend to hear what they want. if they want to keep being mad at roy, whatever he says will be wrong.
