as much as i bash roy, my wish is that he gets his "mojo" back. back in the day, i use to look foward to our defense, maybe quite frankly our offense during roy's hay day was terrible, in anticipation of roy making a big play. im not sure *** happend, i just hope he snaps out of this funk he has been for 2 years now.

I'm sure he wore it because of the Oklahoma game....hehehe....I'm sure he hopes he played better than those guys. How many chokes have they had in bowl games now?

You can always bank on Oklahoma being over-rated and Bob Stoops not looking like a genius coach in the post season. The lowly Mountaineers, without their starting RB and with an interim coach, after being beaten by Pittsburg in their final game, smoked them up and down the field.

Roys problem is that he a proto-type 1980's and 1990's safety playing in 2007. It aint got nothing to do with mojo

I think the coaches screwed up Roy... when he was "a biscuit shy of being a linebacker", he was stacked with muscle. Look at the old videos, and you can see his legs and bubble were much bigger. He was getting beat on passes (playing without a good FS on the field), so the coaches tried to thin him out. Now he still has trouble covering, but can't lay the wood anymore.

We need the old Roy back. Sub him out against 4 receiver sets, or make him a nickle LB, but let the man play his game in his own body.

Williams number change coming?

Roy Williams was wearing No. 38 in Wednesday's practice and he said today he would like to change officially for next season from No. 31.

Good news for the Cowboys' Pro Shop.

Williams wore No. 38 at Oklahoma and wanted to wear it with the Cowboys but Duane Hawthorne was going to charge him $20,000 to make the move his rookie year.

"Eight in the bible means a new beginning so I feel that after this season I feel it's time to switch over," Williams said.

Williams had been contemplating the switch for the last couple of years but stuck with No. 31.

Well, I'm less than thrilled about this. What am I gonna do with my Jason-Ferguson-signed #31 jersey, now?

Sounds more like Roy is hoping that the refs can't find him on the field for the horsecollar penalty

Im all for it. If he wants to use it as some sort of motivation to work harder and start from scratch next year, do it.

IT would probably work considering how inconsistently it is called.

What are you talking about? His legs were thinner his first few years. He started putting on the muscle mass since. It is the muscle mass that has hindered his movement.

His head looks bigger now than in the past, which probably means.... get off the HGH....

why didn't he wear 38 to begin with? was someone wearing it at the time?

Duane Hawthorne wore #38 when Roy came to the Cowboys. He was that little CB that Parcells eventually got rid of when Parcells hired on as head coach.

I was hoping when Roy came in as a rookie that he'd take #38, but oh well. Maybe him taking it back will give him some added incentive.

Doesn't Roy read all the "experts" on this board? Why on Earth would a 5-time Pro Bowl player and superstar who leads the team in solo tackles admit that he needs a new beginning? Why would he need a confidence boost, when according to some of you guys, he's been playing great?

"Eight in the bible means a new beginning so I feel that after this season I feel it's time to switch over," Williams said.

Perhaps HE knows his play has been sub-par, and perhaps HE knows that he needs to work on NOT being a liability and a target for opposing offenses.

All that said, if a change in attitude and a jersey number makes him the guy some of you claim he is, then I'm all for it. Heck, I want him to be that guy, but he hasn't been and HE freaking knows it.

So perhaps, just perhaps, some of you should take off your Cowboy-blue sunglasses and put down your pom-poms and recognize that some of us "idiots" who know nothing about football, coverages, SS or whatever insults you were throwing around might actually have a legitimate opinion or two when it comes to football or the disappointing play of one SS.

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Roy Williams mentioned that he actually wanted to change to No. 38 a couple years ago. He held off as a favor to his favorite billionaire.

"I didn't want Jerry to lose any money, as far as people recalling those jerseys back," Williams said, "It was kind of helping out Jerry, so he wouldn't lose money in the whole deal."

The number switch makes the old No. 31s collectors items, so the Cowboys should start selling them at full price again.
