Rumor: Isiah Stanback practicing at CB now?

I want to know why he hasn't been on the field, at some position consistently. It can't be from lack of knowledge as he hit the books hard during TC, right? What happened to our athletic prodigy? He should at the very least return punts/kickoffs. How hard is that................

Just cuz he knows the plays doesn't mean he knows how to play the position.

I've got patience... plenty of it. Particularly for the Romos and Craytons of the league. But I will go out on a limb and say that Stanback is no cornerback.

When was the last time you saw a quarterback converted into a corner back?

That just doesn't happen at this level.

Either you haven't read earlier posts or it didn't sink in. The whole thing is a prank.

Or you could go with a simpler explanation -- that he's not ready to play WR at this level, something that was absolutely expected when he was drafted -- and since he isn't ready to play WR then he isn't active on gameday as that would take the spot of someone like Miles Austin who returns KOs, plays a big role on coverage teams, and can play WR in a pinch.

Are people on this board so blind that they can't see that a player who is a) making a positions change and b) missed most of TC with an injury and c) was drafted as a DEVELOPMENTAL player, should not be expected to contribute at this point of the season? Really now, is it that hard to understand this?

:hammer:

Some people just don't get it.

Where's the BS emoticon?

How did this someone see practice? If it was the media session where they do a little streching and a couple of individual warmups, Stanback could have been messing around. At the very worst, they may have given him some emergency reps at CB just in case we had a rash of injuries with Henry already hurt and Newman gimpy.

It's ridiculous to get down on Stanback as a WR just because of this rumor.

totally agree

I read the link, and they are saying this. The thing is, its' like I said. That site consists of a bunch of nit wits.

how many rookie WR do we know of who turned out to be successful were not activated their rookie season when fully healthy ??

Lets just be honest here. Stanback is 100% (according to what he told a reporter) and has not been activated even with a starting WR on the shelf. Again...lets just look at the facts and remove all speculation. The guy has freak speed (I think we satisified the analysis and determined that he basically has Terrence Newman speed) and he cant play special teams? Your telling me Miles Austin is better at getting down the field and making a play? Where is Jeff Ireland on Stanback now? During the draft I read article after article from Ireland being tickled pink at Stanback ability...but again...he cant beat out Miles Austin?? If you look at the facts something doesn't add up...unless of course he is not the next slash prodigy some clammered he is. I still think we need to use a high draft pick for a quality WR (someone with actual WR success in Div I program). Dallas tried these middle round "home runs" before where the player has freak size and speed...but cant play.

I didn't realize the site owner had so much pull.
Anyone can make an offer, doesn't mean you have to accept.

He is learning a new position much like Crayton did in 2004 ..... I think Crayton was only active for 8 games that year and we did not have as much talent at Wide receiver that we do now.

If I remember correctly...Crayton had a big TD reception against the Commanders to win the game his rookie season. Lets hope Stanback atleast gets on the field by mid-year.

If he does he will be coming along just like Crayton .... do you think that a bad thing?

Crayton with better physical skills would be outstanding ..... we can only hope.

...Henry and Newman get back to the starting lineup that Oglesby is deactivated and Stanback is given at least a chance to contribute on the special teams.

If he is healthy at least let's see this guy run down the field as a gunner and/or possibly return punts.

I am just glad the team did not give up on Crayton when he was placed on the practice squad ...... using some of the logic I have heard on this thread.

if that is true, the only thing that I could think of is that maybe they are preparing him to cover Moss, since he has the speed to run with Moss, and he is just as tall. It would be a good idea, because Moss does not do anything but run straight down the field, he never crosses the middle of the field unless he is walking across.

the reaction to a bogus rumour is comedic

but as such, I always remind myself when I come on here to expect the stupid, reactionist mantra

Brilliant logic -- of course, playing CB doesn't take him away from WR at all. It just gets him on the field more. The report had him covering TO. You can worry when he's out there covering Miles Austin or Mike Jefferson that he's losing WR snaps.

He's a physical specimen who is rounding into playing shape -- why not let him run a bit with TO?

Get's him on the field more? On what field? The practice field?

Yes they are! If you don't start and make all pro the first year you are drafted, you are a potential bust. Don't do it the second year and they tattoo it on your forhead and no one in the community will speak to you or acknowledge you!

All you folks that want to slam Carp for not being a star want to wait until Stanback is ready to see him contribute. That is not what a fourth round pick is supposed to do!

I am all for waiting to see what the kid can do. Not forever, but a resonable time.

Same should go for Carp.

You want to cover Moss? Put Reeves on him with a cushion, but have Canty play press and knock his head off when the ball gets snapped!
