Rumor: Jerry Jones says JG will have NO say on offense

The way I see it, Jones wanted Callahan to call the offense last year, but Garrett never let go of the reins (despite what we were all led to believe). Jones still wants JG to give up the offense, but the two struck a compromise with Linehan. So we have a HC that the owner doesn't want to be in charge of the offense, and an assistant who was given the title of OC, then given playcalling (for a time), then had it taken away, and then was not allowed to interview for other OC positions. What's wrong with that? Sounds like a recipe for greatness if you ask me.

But this would render the idea that Garrett as hamstrung by Jerry as absurd, because Jerry let him call the plays. So if this is true, what is the Garrett defender who was blasting Jerry for Jason's failures story going to be now?

"It was unfair to Bill, but it was the offense that we've had since [Garrett] got here," Jones said.

So they thing Linehan is better, because he calls a similar offense. Really, what does this say about Garrett when Jerry admitted that Bill would be calling plays this year had not the option of Linehan opened up? If this isn't a stigma against Garrett what else is. Not only does Jerry admit that Garrett didn't let the reigns go fully last year, he said Garrett would lose further control, banned so to say, this year with Callahan originally, only to be banned totally with Linehan coming in.

In both cases, Jones does not want Garrett touching the offense. He chose a less-risky option by just going fully with Linehan then Callahan, whose offense is totally different. And he admits it by saying that what he expected from Bill was unfair, considering the context.

"Garrett, you can't call your own offense, a guy that calls a West Coast will. Wait, we just got another guy that coaches a similar offense as you. So either way, you just keep walking around."

What we got here:

Jerry is keeping Jason, because he's not going to fire him and pay him for nothing. This is why he's retaining guys like Kiffen as well. He can hire a guy like Linehan for cheap cost and maybe get better out the offense in the last year and see how it pans out. If things don't go well, he'll probably not extend and pay big bucks for a coach. He'll make a lot of money irrespective next year and not lose a beat the following year by getting a new coach.

Because it doesn't matter. If Garrett has no say over the offense they'll hate him. If he has 50% control over the offense they'll hate him. If he has 100% control over the offense they'll hate him. And tell us about it in post after post.

Why not have the HC have control over the whole team, both offense and defense? Not one side of the ball or 50% or tasting the cooking ******** that the dolt keeps spewing like some senile snake oil salesman. I soured on Garrett pretty quick because it became apparent he made game multiple management mistakes that had no place in the pro game from an NFL head coach. But having said that, I do not devalue the HC position. If JG doesn't like his OC or DC, it should be his call to have that person removed/fired. Those assistants should answer to the HC and if the team fails, then the HC should be held accountable.

What's absolutely disturbing to me is that folks here defend this lunacy even after seeing the success of a strong minded/alpha male HC in Jimmy Johnson and the rebuilding of this franchise by a like-minded Parcells.

Hold the phones and stop the presses, I have figured it all out!

Remember back when we got three rings in the 90's? That was the deal with the devil that Jerry made. In return, the Dallas Cowboys will forever hold a position for an unnamed red head who likes to clap. This being came about in the name of Jason Garrett. He will forever be with this franchise in some form or capacity and will be harder to remove than Roseanne Barr from a buffet

If I'm a player or coach, it tells me he can't be trusted...but I'd also wager they already knew that as well.

Agreed..............Garrett cant wait to throw people under the bus. Kinda like the post game presser against Green Bay.......before anybody could ask a question Garrett says "Bill called the play and Romo changed it".

Way to be a leader of men, throwing your assistant coaches and QB under the bus to wash your hands of any responsibility.

Garrett has earned this bashing and he's been getting away with destroying this franchise HOF seven years. He is not nor ever beena victim. The problem is not now, Jason being hamstrung, it's Jerry keeping him around cause Jerry wanted to look like a genius for hiring him.

Jason got Hudson Houck and his own brother. The latest guy he got was the Tennesee coach. Campo, I don't see why that was not him. People were arguing Kiffen was his move, because of his connections and he never wanted Ryan.

I mean seriously, Garrett's father has been in Jerry's ear for ages. Jason follows his father around. He is part of the mess.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's never to believe anything that comes out of Jerry's mouth.

What's also comical is this idea of Garrett not letting to puts to rest the other bogus claim that Garrett wanted Norv a long time ago, but Jerry wanted it. Jason wants to control the offense, but he can't.

I'm not a Garrett supporter although I was willing to give him a chance when he first got the job. Either way, whether I like him or not is irrelevant. A HC should have control over his staff and that staff should answer to the HC. The HC should be the leader of the team and the team should view the HC with some authority. The fact that we have a neutered HC who continues to get neutered even in the off season every time the dolt owner opens his mouth is a huge part of why this organization fails year in and year out. It's complete dysfunction.

So we take our offensive minded coach and strip him of all offensive responsibility? Wah?

If this thing is anything beyond a rumor, it's bonkers. A head coach is normally authorized to oversee all phases of the football team's functions on the field. If a coach is stripped of any offensive authority, he's being rendered ineffective for what would normally be a standard area of his responsibilities. If true, this bears all the earmarks of the beginning of the end for Garrett. It surely appears as though Jerry is basically setting Garrett up for his eventual termination. Only in Dallas could this be construed as standard procedure.

Almost seems, well, kind of dysfunctional..:D

As Jerry gets older this circus of an organization will get even worse each year.
