RUMOR: Ronde Barber for Greg Ellis

I don't agree on the Barber > Newman.

Newman is the best corner in football in my opinion. He seriously reminds me of Deion but more complete.

Newman is the most underrated player on the team, if he takes Plummer's pass last year to the house he woulda been in the pro bowl. Henry before the injury was a lock for the pro bowl. So essentially we've got two pro bowl caliber corners, and a solid veteran in Aaron Glenn. I'm not huge on Ellis, but the trade would have a lot of money locked up in the secondary, when we truthfully just need a solid pass rusher opposite Ware.

I still think we get the better of the deal because we trade a potential backup for a potential starter. But of course we know the deal couldn't be straight up player for player. When you start throwing other things in there like draft choices, that changes things.

I don't think there is a better deal in this situation, as it stands now. We would be getting a need position for a player that doesn't fit that could potentially complete our defense. They would be getting a need player that is critical to make there defense work in exchange for a player they can't resign. I think it would pretty much be equal but I do agree, it is contingent on whatever else might be added to the deal.

Making a high profile play was the one thing he didn't do last year. And with as much publicity as Plummer got for having his streak, you know they couldn't ignore it. I still remember the announcer's pandering to him (and of course to the darling Shanahan) for that "achievement".

If overrated players are a concept people still like to talk about, we can talk Plummer any time.

I'd really like to hear the explanation for this one.

I agree with assesment. Of course, it would be contingent upon him starting and I think he would. In that line up, they don't ask the DLs to do much more then penatrate. If you match him with Simeon Rice, Hovan and Bugger, that give you a very powerful pass rushing front four. You throw in Tampa's aggressive nature defensively with CBs and Safeties and it is a difficult match up for any OL to pass block against. I too beleive that in that defense, Ellis could attain double digit sacks.

Given one of the best O-Lines in football, a great running game, and a solid set of receivers (Smith and Lelie) its pathetic how he manages to choke(especially when his job is to just not make mistakes). I cant decide who is more overrated Plummer or McNabb.

Definitely Plummer. But it's close.

If...this trade were to happen, and I only say "if", I would support it. Although, I would much rather see us get draft picks for Ellis that would give us more flexibility on draft day instead of getting an aging DB for Ellis.

The Cowboys have about as much use playing Ellis at DE in a 3-4 as they do playing Romo at free safety. Ellis is one of the likeable good character guys, but he is not a DE in a 3-4. The Cowboys need to get whatever they can for him and move on.

How can Ellis not be a good 3-4 End when he still had 8 sacks last year? When they play nickel, which is like 60% of the time in todays NFL, Ellis fits. Bottom line. I mean, as much as anybody I hope Spears, Canty, Carpenter and Ware can become good enough to combine for like 25 sacks just between them, but it's probably not going to happen. We don't even know if Carpenter is going to be playing when the season starts. I hope so, but like Parcells said, Ellis shouldn't be worried about playing time until we have about 3 or 4 more Demarcus Wares on our team.

Ellis did not register a sack the last 5 games of 2006 while Demarcus Ware registered 4 sacks in the last 5 games of 2006. What does that tell you? Ellis will be an excellent 3-4 DE when he grows another 2 inches and adds another 30 pounds of muscle. When you play an excellent 4-3 DE (which Ellis is) sparingly in a 3-4 scheme, you'll get 8 sacks if you're lucky. Is it also worth the money you pay an Ellis to only play sparingly in a scheme not suited to exploit his talent? I don't think so.

My first want would be defensive line, but ain't no one tradin' dline for dline unless they have some wierd situation too.

So realistically, my next want would be the interior line. Too many question marks with those guards and centers. Offensive tackle, last year's weakness, is looking like this year's strength with a healthy Flozell, Fabini, and the reports of Petitti and Colombo showing everyone up. It would probably be hard to find a team willing to depart with depth on the line unless they are in desperate need of a pass rusher.

I would be happy with depth in the secondary. I think the Boys have deceptive depth at the position. Glenn could lose it any second. Coleman hasn't proven anything. Still problems at free safety.

Tampa Bay could realistically trade a DT and be fine. They are deep at the position.

I'd take a nose if they have one. What I'd really like is another nickel threat like Greg Ellis but I guess it ain't gonna happen.

Yep because I look at more than popular opinion. The stats don't lie Newman was the best corner in football last year. He went up against the best receivers in the game and when he was covering them they were shut down.
