Show me that JJ does not do the same. Its all opinion. I remember JJ carrying a 240 lb Saint LB that hit him about the 3 all the way into the endzone.

It doesn't seem like Tyson Thompson has shown enough to be a reliable, trustworthy, contributing 2nd string back (yet).

I don't see trading away Julius Jones unless another team offered a truly great deal (which seems unlikely).

I would take Duckett and a draft choice.......

yeah, and then you'd be watching a fat RB gain about 2.5yds per carry with this OL

This sounds like the Emmit and Hambrick argument all over again. Teams game plan more around Julius than they do for Barber. When you have a back that can take it the distance anytime he touches the ball defenses put 8 in the box to stop him. Barber is a better short yardage runner than Julius, but he doesnt have his extra gear when he gets in the open.

Knowing how Parcells loves baseball, I look at Jones & Barber as a 3 and 4 hitter.

Jones is a 4 hitter, ... he can hit a game changing "homerun" at any time, but might strike out too.

Whereas Barber is a 3 hitter, ... he is going to put the ball in play almost every at bat, getting a base hit at least most of the time, but not many homeruns.

I'm glad we have both of them.

Game situations dictate when it is advantageous to put in the 3 or the 4 hitter.

I know where he is coming from dooms..... I just don't like the term "injury prone"...... I tore my acl, mcl and meniscus when a fat out of shape tird fell on my knee after I scooped up a fumble.... I missed many games because of it! That along with other injuries caused by others falling on me doesn't make me injury prone. Having someone that outweighs you by 100 pounds fall on you awkwardly isn't your fault!

I agree but the truth is professional sports is not always fair. It is not about being his fault or not and of course it is not his fault that these injuries have happened but each year a new crop of RB come into the league and now with FA top RB can be had by teams and if your a player who is missing time eventually you will lose your job that is a fact. I want nothing more than to see JJ have success in Dallas and believe me I'm pulling for him to have an outstanding season and a healthy one.

this was from a thread from a few weeks ago...for those still on the "dump JJ, lets use MBIII all the time!!!!" bandwagon

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

its amazing how you people just write off what this guys accomplished in less than two full seasons...9 of 13 games last yr he gained at least 71 yds...in 7 starts as a rookie he gained 80+ ydst 6 times...you do realize that 80 yds a game averages out to almost 1300 yds right? he's started 20 games and gained 71 or more yds 15 of those games...he has games of 149, 150, 194 and 198yds in those 20 starts...for comparison sake lets look at Ladainian Tomlinson over the past 2yrs...in 2004 Tomlinson gained 71 or more yds in 9 of his 15 starts...last yr he gained 71+ yds in 10 of his 16 starts...so in his last 31 games Tomlinson has gained 71+ yds 19 times (thats 61% of the time) in 20 starts Jones has done it 15 times (75% of the time)...also, Jones has 4 games of 148 or more yds the past two seasons...Tomlinson has 3 such games and has 11 more starts

I'm not saying Jones is anywhere near as good as Tomlinson, but Tomlinson is widely regarded as the best in football and Jones' production isnt that disimilar to his, and yet the majority of people in this fickle forum think Jones is a bust, a waste of a roster spot, overrated, the 3rd best RB on THIS team etc etc etc, when in fact his production per game is actually superior to alot of guys a number of you rated "way" ahead of Jones

I like Jones and expect him to be our starter for a while but it does not change the fact that when players are missing a good portion of both seasons it hurts the team as well. If his career continues like this it (I'm not saying it will) will not last because durability is part of the deal teams can't afford to see their running game vanish for 8 games or 5 games as Dallas has the last 2 years. None of this is JJ fault but for his sake and the sake of this team I really hope he can show himself as a guy who can play an entire season if he can then I think he will put up some big numbers

just because he's had a couple of bad injuries (and both of them were BAD injuries, it wasnt like he said he stubbed his toe) doesnt mean he wont turn out to be a tremendous player...

so many seem to be taking that stance, but if they think that they need to go back and look at Michael irvin and Kenny Norton's first couple of seasons...were they worth waiting on?

I'm not saying that. Players get hurt it is part of the game but for those who constantly get hurt they don't last long in the NFL. I hope this is all behind Jones and he can have many productive and healthy season in Dallas. I think he can be a top notch running back in this league however if his luck continues as it has it won't last much longer. Lets just hope this season is the begining of a great career for Jones.

agreed.... It's not always fair and you can never predict when another player will cause a season ending or a few games injury...... My definition of injury prone is different than most:cool:

I have yet to call Jones injury prone as some have but I am concerned about his ability to play a 16 game season because he has never done it before and until a player can show they can do it there will be doubts.

He isn't prone.....just unlucky hey its Portis's turn now......Only person the skins can blame is themselves for packing 4 years worth of touches into 3 seasons.

Wait, let me get this straight....

You're comparing an oft injured 3rd year RB who has already missed over half a season to Clinton Portis, a legitimate franchise running back who has missed 4 starts in 4 years and averages 12 TDs and over 1400 yards per year?

You're kidding me, right?

Well, I didn't mean it like that. Certainly being out for 12 games in two years puts him in a different category than Portis, though. Clearly even you can see that, right?
