Just curious. If Ukraine has no chance becoming a member of Nato or the EU, than why is Putin trying to demand that Ukraine does not become a member of Nato? I mean if there is no chance for that to happen, why make that as part of your demands.

Hmmm...

Ukraine does have a chance to join the EU. But EU does not give out membership to anyone. It has strict high standards re: economics, human rights, democracy, legal system, food and manufacturing safety standards etc etc. EU will welcome Ukraine when they comply, but will not let anyone in who doesnt fully comply. Same goes for Russia - it they complied, they could join.

Heads are starting to roll in Russia.......

Would like to see a lot more of that under the assumption that instead of tightening the fear, it will only lead to Putin's self-destruction.

It's 50/50. A lot of authoritarians have done well for themselves getting rid of the opposition, but it's definitely tougher in the information age.

Russia’s finances continue to deteriorate.

Since they are targeting "unfriendly countries", it sounds like they are trying to write off debt to those countries by paying them now in an effort to force those countries to fund their bad decisions as the value of the ruble continues to decline.

The problem is that is not how the international financial markets work. If it was, a country could pay off their debt in their own currency, then print/issue the same amount in new currency to offset it.

There is a reason why most countries trade internationally based on USD as it has traditionally been the most stable and reliable currency in the world for a long time.

International banks will likely refuse to accept rubles which will (as the tweet stated) result in Russia defaulting on their debts. That will sink their credit rating which will impact them for years no matter what happens with the war.

Our attempt to wire transfer US dollars to our family in Russian was blocked recently as was our attempt to mail a parcel to them.

This isn't just affecting the oligarchs; everyday Russians are being impacted. According to family, protests against the Ukrainian invasion are growing within Russia.

So, in underestimating the resolve of the Ukrainians, are the Russians dealing with another war like the one in Afghanistan? A war they cannot win?

I post a lot of content that has a pro-Ukraine spin to it...

It doesn't mean Ukraine is going to hurl-back the invading force, but it does mean Ukraine wasn't the "enhanced talent" (to use a pro-wrestling term for a wrestler who loses to everyone) Russia thought they were.
The Ukrainians are ranked 20th in the world as far military might and effectiveness. Plus they are fighting for their homeland and freedom. That itself is a strong motivation. Like I have said before Putin greatly underestimated the drive of the Ukrainians to be free and independent. He is not the only country throughout history who has done this.

Not just that but Russia has totally exposed its own flaws. It's clear that the American military would totally wipe the Russians like a dishrag in a conventional war.

China is probably thinking screw Tawian. We can take Russia with their military.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beijing offered Russia something like a 5-trillion bailout plan to save the plummeting economy, but in return Russia has to give China a big chunk of Siberia.
