NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened the alliance by telling it to withdraw forces from member nations or face consequences.

"This goes far beyond Ukraine," Stoltenberg warned. "This is about how Russia is actually challenging, contesting core values for our security. Then warning that NATO should withdraw all forces and infrastructure from almost half of our members.

"They said that if we don't do that, if we don't meet their demands, there will be what they call ‘military-technical consequences,'" he added.

The leader of the 30-member alliance said that in response to these threats NATO has for the first time deployed its Response Force for collective security.

Stoltenberg said the U.S., U.K., France and Germany are among the NATO nations to have deployed forces and lead elements to assist the Response Force.

"We have to take this seriously," he said.

In the Korean War, Russia let China deal with it and with Vietnam they took a more active role. I think the only thing that unites them is the common enemy and China seems more calculating and less forceful to play the game.

That's about the size of it.

It would not take a lot of provocation to get one angry at the other (again).

I would say Putin isn't stupid enough to retaliate with nukes and start WWIII, but then I remember the old saying "It's always the quiet ones..."

I just don't see any organized state going that route.

Now if you had a splinter/terrorist group...

A day late and a dollar short for Stoltenberg, a total loser. Core values, thx for the laugh.

Time for Russia to know what it's like to be on the losing end of Stalingrad.

I'm curious to see how the Javelins have fared against the cage-armor that some Russian tanks were wearing on top of their turrets.

If we've got any Javelins left in our inventory, yesterday was the time to give it to the Ukrainians.

I know we must have some veteran Zoners here, would love to hear their input.

This one actually surprises me. I know it's a half-butt effort, but for China to do anything like this at all is unexpected. They must thing Russia is going to lose and want to appear as if they were "helping."

Russia has been very careful to avoid civilian fatalities resulting in a slow push. The Ukrainians are standing ground but how long before Putin goes all in and kills everyone in the way?

My guess is it is more about the potential longevity of the war that is starting to concern China.

I think Putin (and China) expected Russia would swoop in and take control of the Ukrainian government very quickly.

Now that it has turned into an actual war with civilians being killed, China is likely realizing they need to distance themselves from Russia's actions, at least on the surface, to avoid the global perception of support and/or involvement.

Not quite an "equalizer" but the use of shoulder-fired anti-armour and anti-aircraft missiles by Ukrainian infantry can be very demoralizing for the opposing force, not to mention downright scary because unlike a tank or AA gun, infantryman carrying a shoulder-fired missile are much more difficult to see– especially in an urban environment.

I could not imagine sitting in a tank knowing those could be anywhere at any time.

In a candid moment after WW1, Otto Kahn explained that the Cabalist bankers “remake” the world by creating artificial conflicts and determining the outcome. These include the world wars, the Cold War, and the phony “Left-Right” gridlock

“You say that Marxism is the very antithesis of capitalism, which is equally sacred to us. It is precisely for this reason that they are direct opposites to one another, that they put into our hands the two poles of this planet and allow us to be its axis. These two contraries, like Bolshevism and ourselves, find their identity in the International. [Presumably, he means the Comintern.]
These opposites … meet again in the identity of their purpose and end in the remaking of the world from above by the control of riches, and from below by revolution." Otto Kahn
