no, I put more emphasis on despite that, he's still getting his arse shown the door

Yeah, and why use facts when your opinion is so much more important, right?

Especially in July, when most teams have blown their FA budget or set their rosters. Even if other teams show interest, not many are in a position for an extensive bidding war.
With the way the salary cap ballooned this year due to the new CBA, I don't necessarily think that is the case this time around.

I did use facts, their D was horrible despite that #5 pass-D, which means they were getting ran on at will

remember in '00 when we had the #4 pass-D? we were ranked 28th in total D and 31st in rushing D

He and Keith Davis share some things in common...

Saints | Smith Robbed
Tue, 28 Jun 2005 17:02:41 -0700

ClickOnDetroit.com reports New Orleans Saints S Dwight Smith was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night, June 26, while visiting family in Detroit, Local 4 reported. He had just returned from a market to a home in the 15000 block of Quincy Street on the city's west side when the incident occurred. Police said a car pulled up in front of the home at about 11 p.m. A man exited the vehicle with an assault rifle and ordered Smith to remove his jewelry, according to police. A woman in the car was ordered to pickup the jewelry. The two fled the scene with about $100,000 in jewelry and $4,000 in cash, police said. Smith is now back in Florida while the investigation into the case continues.

And reading up on the pellet-gun incident ... Dwight Smith and a friend were in line a McDonalds' drive through at 4 a.m. Some people in line recognized him, got out of their cars and went up to talk to Smith. Smith got agitated and drew the bb gun and told them to leave him alone. Smith's passenger got out of the car and assaulted them. Smith's passenger was charged with battery and Smith was charged with aggrevated assault with a weapon.

So you try to use that in some weak attempt to knock down safety Dwight Smith?

Lousy attempt to form your argument on.

Free safety Dwight Smith is to blame for their run defense?

A free safety earns his living against the pass.

Their ranking was good - he did his job.

End of story.

You don't like the guy?

Fine.

But don't try to twist reality to suit your position.

:lmao:

as I suspected, 501 rushing attempts against compared to 416 passing

they were 26th in rushing D

weren't as bad on total D, 16th, because of their pass D, 5th, but still, teams found success against there D by running on them, which still begs the question, or rather statement, why pass when you can run on them?

 I said the Saints looked so good on pass-D because teams were running on them more, and having more success, so that means their #5 pass-D ranking is misleading

I'm not saying I agree with you or him, but he wasn't saying that the FS was bad because the run D was bad. He was saying that since a team could easily run it on a horrible run D, what's the point in passing it.

Who cares?

And in what way does this support your knock against Smith?

Their pass defense was highly-ranked and that's what a free safety is most responsible for.

Bark up another tree.....

The Saints pass defense wasn't as great as the ranking suggests. In fact, their 7.21 ypa average was one of the worst in the league. But I really don't think the SS should be getting judged on that. (Smith palyed SS last year). Otherwise, what do we think of Coleman? Would anyone say Smith ISN'T better than Davis offhand?

also, the Saints were tied for 4th WORST in INTs

so what is Dwight good for again?

He can play safety, unlike Keith Davis for starters.....

Please take the stance that Smith isn't better than anyone the Cowboys currently have.

Then we can end this real quick.

Cmon summer...

would you accept that reasoning if someone pointed to some of our terrible INT totals and used it against Roy?

He has 14 picks over the last 4 years.

How many have our FSs picked off since Woody left?

14 picks in 4 years is what he's good for.

Go to NFL.com and find 5 NFL free safeties who have better INT totals in the last 4 years. Good luck, and pack a sandwich.

Not many. It's been dreadful.

Bottom line - he is BETTER than any FS on our roster currently. Why we wouldn't roll the dice there is beyond me.

Playing out of position - at SS.

And 2 INTs and 5 PDs is better than Davis, no?
