Noone is saying Dwight is some god, and we'll die if we don't sign him. But he's certainly a better option than anything else we have.

The fact that he is better than any FS on our roster is reason enough for me. Short of being superhuman, I'm not sure what you're looking for here.

I wouldn't mind seeing us sign Smith at all. I think, with a good defense to back him, he could be an excellent pick-up for us. His coverage ability is exactly what we need opposite Roy.

We could put him in the slot on the other team's 3rd WR and not have to hold our breaths waiting for the inevitable long gainer. Put him at FS last year and I don't think we lose in week 2 to Washington.

Assuming his character suits Parcells, I say do it.

Yes, defeated. You claim he's mediocre in coverage and you're just flat out wrong.
